The decade in skiing

Ever since johnny mosely in nagano in '98 freeskiing has progressed at a ridiculous rate. Tons of crazy things happened this decade, in your opinions, what are the top events of 2000-2010?

i think the rail game alone has become unbelievable. when you think about the level that rail skiing is at- large spins onto rails, 3 ups, large spins off, etc.- its hard to imagine anyone 10 years ago predicting how gnarly it would be.

Its technically not a new decade. For it to be a new decade we need to finish the year 2010. Think of it as a race with 10 laps. Lap 1-2000,lap 2-2001,lap 3 2002, lap 4 2003, lap 5-2005, lap 6- 2006, lap 7- 2007, lap 8 2008, lap 9-2009, lap 10- 2010. We need to complete the lap for it to be a total of 10 laps. Do you know what i am saying?

my immortal powers alowed me to predict it was all gonna happen the way it did, so i saw it coming...

Except you totally fucked up and it really goes:

lap 1 2000

lap 2 2001

lap 3 2002

lap 4 2003

lap 5 2004

lap 6 2005

lap 7 2006

lap 8 2007

lap 9 2008

lap 10 2009

It should have been obvious, considering the END of 1999 was the END of the millennium.

Up there is defs Shane Mcconkey's life and death. The man pioneered Freeskiing by doing crazy shit that nobody else would try. His contribution to the sport should be just as huge as the sad news that he passed away pioneering the sport he loved.

^big mountain and tree skiing must have progressed out the wazoo, but i guess i dont know much about the level of progressions because its overshadowed by pipe/park skiing i absorb in the movies I watch.

i dont know about anyoen else, but when i saw CR Johnson air 22 feet out i was like holy shit! now if you r not going that big you arent pro. . . shits getting crazy

Shit's gone crazy. Sure i dont remember much from ten years ago (being that i was 5). But i was aware of probably the last 4 or 5 years and shit has just gone off. It's crazy to see how much everything is progressing.

No one mentioning Pep Fujas in 1242? damn, thats one of THE biggest things tro happen in freeskiing for sure.

i definately agree with all the double flip stuff, especially jon doing all those kangs. We went from mute 3 in 98 to people doin dubs in every contest

Spent like 30+ min going through my ski mag archive, looked at all me ski movies, opened my brain, typed out a shitload of things that stood out, for me, and somehow i pressed back and lost it all. Suffice it to say, as stated in the first post, this shit has changed a lot, but it had a fluidity to it.

Top events off the top of my head:

- The first X-games Big Air won by JF Cusson with a switch 7

- The first superpipe comp with CR, Candide and others throwing down

- Seth Morrison's slaying of big mountain hucking including a rodeo 7 off an 80 ft cliff

- Pep's switch landing off a 30 ft cliff among other highlights of his 1242 segment

- Tanner's domination of slopestyle in the mid 2000s, marked by monster switch hits to the bottom of the tranny

- Simon's first hit in the pipe in the 2005 pipe finals of 22 ft, shattering previous bests of around 15 ft

- Candide's cork 810 to rail, and Laurent's rodeo 630 to rail, both blowing minds about rail possibilities

- Candide clearing the hip at Superpark in '04 with the most monsterous cork 5 possibly still in history

Just a few to throw out there. There are so many more.
