The death of LINE??

this is ridiculous...line is not going under but i do think they are making mistakes...try to keep in mind that they are a new company when compared to k2, salamon, rossi etc, but im sure that line sells a hell of alot more skis than armada and 4frnt combined right now...they have a bigger market...i dont ski on lines but i dont think they are going under

the binding issue is creating a lot of publicity at least. when the reactor acutally comes out next year, they will sell them all. this year might be a little tough for Line, but just wait until next yr.

 
if line were going under, they would not have just come out with all ne clothes, as well as a new pro model. im pretty sure they would start downsizing, which they havent done by any stretch. all in all, line will never go down

So of all those kids who have Lines in the terrain park, how many of them had to send their broken pair back to Line to get the pair they are on right now? Probably most of them. No offence but, if i even demoed a pair of Lines i guarantee i would break them before the demo was over, they aren't made to the same standards as the other name brand stuff.

The Binding has failure written all over it. Why would someone make a ski product that not everyone could buy? Its just ignorant. Even if i wanted to ski the Line binding, which i did, i couldn't because i can't mount them on my skis, cause they aren't this season's Lines. So Line just lost a sale. And i'm not the only one that wanted a pair and couldn't get them, i'm sure. Then with a whole year gap between the opening season for the binding and the next time they come out, that is gonna hurt too because all those little 'jibbers' that wanted a Line binding had to buy something else to get them through last season. So why would they spend more money to buy a pair of Line bindings when they already have at least four more holes in their skis anyway?

I'm not saying Line is going under but they sure know how to botch up some decisions.

And I'll bet that if you would have counted the number of Line skis in the parks during their first season you would have found very few compared to the other brands. So how can you say that Armada and 4Frnt are not as good as Line? Armada and 4Frnt are in the same boat as Line was 6 years ago, except they have started with a better product and skipped the skiboard industry. I think that in the amount of time that Line has been given, that Armada and 4frnt will be much bigger.

Those are my opinions, but what do i know, I've only been in the industry for 20 years

fpman, u make a good point, but i think lines are made well....i rod and broke three pairs of concepts in three days and havent broken lines yet. and about what u sed about lines in their first year compared to aramda or 4frnt in their first year, when line first started, freeskiing was just starting to stick its head up...now, freeksiing is a lot more popular than when line started

One of the reasons so many people have lines in the park is because they have been around for so long, vs armada or 4frnt who have been around for like a year. In the end it all comes down to what you prefer, if people want lines then let em have lines and if they dont then who gives a shit. I have lines and think they're great but i might switch with the next pair of skis i get just because i havent seen anything i like in their line up this year. Those boots look like they'd kick ass tho.

no, i skied six days a week all of last season, ask anybody i ride with, thats just one of the benifits of working at a on hill ski shop.

 
i have two pairs of line bindings, got them last year, i road them at a demo before that, they worked fine--just lots of issues they have to tweak out before mass production. anybody want line bindings???? i never used either pair.

not to bust on getboards, there promoting skiing so Im for them, but why do most people want to buy from you guys? I mean I will sell skis at getboards pricing, plus you wont have to pay shipping, and you will get mounting free, a savings of like 60 bucks (20 for shipping and 40 for mounting)

plus (no offence to getboards) with buying from a local ski shop, if you ever have problems most of the time they can take care of them for you quick. Just for example, last year I had a kid come in who had broken a set of lines duing the Vtopen. We had that perticular ski in stock, so i switched his bindings over to the new boards for free. I new that line would warrenty them, and he was on new skis in less then 30 minutes, hows that for customer servise? Hes happy cause he is on new boards, yet if he was dealing with getboards, he would be stuck with sending them back to line, which we all know can take weeks, if not months some times to get shit through there warrenty department. try getting that great of custy servise with getboards. when you buy from a local shop, get to know the people who are sellin you those goods, they will come in handy for little things like that.

So why do people buy from getboards or any other online ski shop for that matter?

 
vtrider, keep in mind, not everyone has access to a shop like yours. I don't think ANY sky shops in my province even sell twin tip skis!! I HAVE to order from getboard or D structure.

vtrider we would do the same thing for our loacals. we are a rental shop and everything just like all the other ski shops out there. and on the plus side we sell online wich brings in most the money anyways. believe it or not selling online brings in way more money then a regular local ski shop.

I didnt relize that you guys had a retail store front location. where are you located? what ski resort? But as far as online sales makin the big bucks i can see that, its simple supply and demand. lots of people are mail order people who love to do all there xmas shoping over the web, im sure thats a big convience for you.

So anyone else remember Jay Lev's post a while back(Few months ago) when he told ns.com that Line wasn't producing a 'carving' ski this year???? Anyone else feel like they got lied to? Anyone actually care? Fuck Line, and fuck Jay Levinthal.

i personally don't give a fuck if they make them, i just won't ride them

and i read someone bad mouthing the binding up there somewhere, sure it sucks, but it was a great idea, the whole quickmount thing, like snowboards...you wouldn't have to have a drill pattern and everything to transfer bindings onto skiis, you could just inscrew them and then screw them into another pair, sounds like a good idea to me, it's just that it didn't turn out too well, and you talked about not being able to mount them on other skiis, i'm pretty sure you could(i think), also you said if they bought the binding they'd already have 8 holes from their other bindings, but if they bought a different companie's bindings anyways, after taking the other ones out, you'd need another drill pattern cause most drill patterns for different companys are different

and i ride line, they're good and stuff...

Line sucks. For developing carving and womens skis, they SHOULD go under. And also for making shitty twin tips. And mostly for having a shit-ass warrenty policy in Canada.

I'm still pissed that Jay Lev came onto NS because we were ripping his company to shreds, then lied to make Line look good again, and then went ahead and developped shitty skis that go against every principle the company was founded upon. Had he not lied, then it would be understandable, but now Line has 2 different credibility problems: They make shitty skis, and their founder/president is a lying bastard.
