The Death Knuckle

The dreaded, and usually found on the east coast, Death Kuckle. So today I died a little on a step up with the steepest of knuckles. The death knuckle, if you did not know, is the beautiful triangle on the top of the landing that tries to kill you if you come up short.

Pics of said kuckles

Video for reference of deadliness, broke my binding a little.

Feel free to share anything related to these deadly beasts.

a few weeks ago my mountain had a hip and I tried gaping over and they tried to cover up an icy landing with an angled knuckle to a steep 20ft landing I undershot and was in deep knee and heel pain.

I would honestly just knock down the knuckle myself. Go up after the mountain closes and cut it up with a chain saw and then move the chunks off with a shovel.

Brimacombe in southern ontario, park is dope except for the said step up with said knuckle. The other jumls are suprisingly floaty with smooth landings and trannys. A nice rail garden as well!

might have to make a trip out there and to OP, dont worry I did the same thing on a step up at my mtn with a backy and broke my shoulder and have been out for a little over a month so atleast your not hurt.

not gonna lie dude that knuckle spread your asscheeks and fucked you dry like dirty hooker. Definitely work on that.

if there was about 1 or two less vertical feet of knuckle that would actually be a really sick jump. even now if you get speed it looks super fun, and even a "death knuckle" still beats coming up short on a stepdown.

Honestly I don´t get all the hate for the parkcrew neither the solutions people posted

Takeoff/Landing are steep and look like shaped by Jesus himself and yeah the knuckle´s nearly a flat wall if you don´t have enough speed but how would taking down the knuckle a few feet help with that problem? If you undershoot then you´ll still hit the knuckle at the same angle...

Only solution I see is to fill up the space between kicker and knuckle with a good amount of snow or make a bigger, round knuckle

at a small hill on the east coast there were these 45 footers that were like slowly curved into a down and I saw only a few people not cap it.

Just hit the knuckle instead of the jump. You'll get the same amount of pop without danger of smashing into a triangle of death.

Nope been like that for a week, but they are hopefully fixing it tonight! And the jump is really nice when speed right

My solution would be to fill slightly and move the landing toward the take off by about 2 feet. Also, landing needs to be just a tidge flatter and longer. I think that is a pretty poor jump. A jump is well built when you don't have to be EXACT with speed, but just pretty close to perfect. That jump is no dice. We obviously saw what happens short. If he has just a few mph more he would be in the gucci plateau.

Yea another inch forward and he would have overshot the mountain entirely right?. Pretty much all jumps suck to come up short. You don't need exact speed to hit most jumps but if you case them it's going to suck. I'm would think most people are clearly it fine if they haven't adjusted it. Also making the landing flatter would just be dumb.

Ahh your sarcasm is totally lame. It is sad you couldn't use some constructive thought.

Of course all jumps suck to come up short. However, you can build them intelligently in a way that creates a lower risk and greater probably of landing correctly. And making the landing a less exaggerated angle would only slightly increase the impact of the landing while creating a lot of space. And don't say things without basis or critical thinking. I am not just making this up, but speaking as a former physics teacher.

Nah he's right. What's the point of having a steep landing on a step up anyways? The point of one is that you are falling less vertical distance, and because of that the landing doesn't need to be steep to cushion your fall.

Also if you look the guy didn't speed check at all.

Doesn't look that ridiculously steep or short. I understand the concept of the step up.

And if he didn't speed check maybe he needs to learn how to pop. Also have no idea what video you guys are referring to as I don't see one in the thread.

More interested to see how other people are hitting it. My guess is most of them are landing nice and soft in the sweet spot.

Oh sick. Jumping right into the "oh look at my qualifications bro.

Speaking as someone who got a higher score than you on the SAT's. (TahoeRondo can vouch for me)

Everyone hitting the jump is having speed issue's. No one has gone past 5ft of the knuckle. I did mess up on the pop a little there, not getting the correct amplitude. But today I managed some rodeo 5's, just squeaking it around. Fun jump, low impact, unless you come up short.

Just watched the video in your vids section. Def doesn't look like anything people are taking long which really makes the physics teachers arguments invalid. Def looks like something that sucks to come up short on especially if you're upside down but a lot of step ups can be funky for inverted spins.

I enjoy the lip, very poppy and feels nice for flats/rodeos. Straight spins are death on it

Not mad at all. Just slightly annoyed as the juvenile lack of thought. Had he made good points I would have listened. Instead he sounded like an uneducated 14 year old, despite claiming a high SAT score.

Hey! I take no offence to being a 14 year old. But in all seriousness this is a thread on a website about 1 jump. Why we bringing SAT scores and shit into it?

I didn't say anything about them, he brought up how smart he was. I was merely using my past experience to show that there was merit behind the thoughts.

I passed 5th grade. My parents are throwing me a party.

Anyway. I get what your saying and thats a good way ro put it.

My buddy knuckled it pretty hard on his snowboard didn't speed check on any of the jumps and still bounced about 5ft off the knuckle

It's from another thread. And only mentioned it because you jumped right into "you're dumb I'm a physics teacher".

Also you seem kind of mad. Considering one of your big points was flattening the landing yet OP even said nobody is overshooting it.

You don't know what you're talking about. Does it look like that park was built with little amounts of snow. Second I highly doubt the operator is "uneducated in terrain park building". Look at the setup below this jump.

People just need to pop more. If you really can't get enough speed I could see taking it down a little bit but sounds like people are clearly it and OP said he was floating rodeos over it.
