Just got a sneak peak at next year's stuff from the folks at Atomic, and evidently Rex Thomas and crew have been busy coming up with a completely unique twin-tip for next year. The ski is called the Triplet, and it's so named because it's a buy-two, get one free deal. Really. The Triplet HP will sell for around $499, and that gets you three skis. Each of the three skis has a unique topsheet, so Atomic is hyping the fact that you can pair the skis however you want to come up with three different topsheet combos. Or, should you break a ski or blow out an edge, you have a backup. It's a pretty cool idea, and a really good price for three skis. The HP will be available in a 173, 172, and 181, and it weighs in at 78 mm under foot. These are the skis that Rex Thomas, Tom Dolezel and Travis Redd will be rocking all winter, so you should get an early look at them at the X Games.

Atomic's entire park-ski line will be new next year. Look for the Deviant, which at $400 is a super-affordable park ski that still bears that Atomic name, so you know it'll rock the quality that Atomic is known for. And there's another Triplet in the line, the Triplet Urban, a jib-specific ski that should have a street price of about $599. The Urban Trips all use RSR (Rail Slide Reinforcement), a second set of edges under your boots for a no-hook grind and fewer edge blowouts.

trying to be? as i recall i thought that atomic was always one step ahead of the technology in skiing. not necessarily 3 ski idea but always tech wise being smart.

here's a question. are there going to be triplet bindings? cause what the fuck are you supposed to do, buy 2 pairs of bindings and throw one out? sure you get another ski but that doesnt help at all if you don't have a binding for it. I'm not sure how well thought out this idea is.

Why not have put all that time, effort, and R&D money into making a better ski? The Tweak was a good ski, but improvements could have been made. If they're willing to give you 3 skis for the price of 2, what does that say about the product's durability, Atomic's faith in their twintip lineup, or even the potential for warranty claim in appropriate situations?

Bahahaha... or, you could call it the 'elitist snob' cult. Anyways, my family already owns a country club, so no thanks.

I think they are selling bindings pre-mounted on the skis, so you get 3 skis and 3 bindings.

That 2nd one is nasty. The pink is a little overplayed, but looks sick as a ski, but a little plain. The zipper one is kind of odd, but creative.

those aren't the graphics that Travis's Triplets had this weekend in Vail. They also have like two more edges under foot. Its kind of wierd, but there are like the normal edges around the ski, and then underfoot there are two more edges in the middle of the ski, not sure why, some sort of a grinding thing, but I am not sure how it works exactly

probably cause travis was on the triplet urban, those are the ones with the extra edges, and most likely, different graphics.

They had a pretty cool idea but oh my goodness those are THE ugliest graphics i have ever seen.

 
I think on the first one with their name they are thinking pink is in? Kinda like WRX and their little STI simble. I really don't like the look of any of their new skis.

 
They revamped the tweak for next year and renamed it the deviant (spelling), saw it the other day.. same side cut but a bit stiffer and a different design under the bindings. The looked bas ass.

oh yeah? well me and my friends have been bathing off the southern coast of st. bards, chilling with spider monkeys. tripping on acid gave us a whole new perspective on shit.
 
the official NS press release is being worked on as we speak.

-yes there will be a 3 binding package available

-The Sizes are 163, 172, 181 (freeskier made a missprint)

-The color of the graphic is different with each size (Pink is only the 172)

-The Urban has reenforced edges under foot to cut down on edge cracks from sliding rails by disburssing the impact between 4 edges instead of 2

-as said before, it's not questioning the durability of the skis, it's just something new and for the same price as a 1080 why wouldn't you get 3 good skis instead.

-everything else will be in the press release

that is the dumbest idea i have ever heard. Some people blow out edges but isnt that what warrently is for. The only idea i can think of is get a friend to buy some triplets with you and you can have 3 pair of skis. Who the fuck wants an extra ski laying around

actually, companies don't cover edge damage by rails usually, unless you are very lucky and a good liar. I think it's a pretty sick idea the double edges underneath.

yea and if somthing does go wrong with a ski you can send it into the company and continue ridding isnted of not having skis for three weeks while they dicide if they are going to warranty that shit...

Its not that Atomic does not belive in their products, just this will cut down on not being able to ski if something does happen. Look at it this way: Say your ski co. will fix any ski you break even if it is on rails.. thats great. Now, your at the mountain, you break a ski.. pull out the other one and you can still ride while the other one is out being fixed/replaced. I have a feeling that alot of these will show up on Ebay in sets of two. Like you and a friend buy them, sell the two extra on Ebay. So look for even better deals once they get broken up into twos.

yeah its a good idea up until you think about bindings unless atomic is gonna sel their bindings in a 3 pack it would be way more expensive than what your gonna save in the long run
