The current search bar blows

I think the current search bar is pretty terrible, it only searches the title of the post and displays 50 results. A lot of times when I want to look for a thread I cant find it because I don't remember the title, and anything that's too general will give more then 50 results. Most other forums have an advanced search as well as searching the post for keywords and not just the title. Being able to display results in a page would be good too. I can't stand how people always say search bar when its so hard to use effectively
 
Ironically, if you searched barred "search bar" you would have realized this has been talked about a million times and it is also addressed in the current Make-NS-Better thread made by the one and only Doug Bishop.
 
Hah yeah but the search bar is probably too bad to find the thread. :)

Seriously though it does really, really, really, really suck mad donkey dick. We totally know it and will get it fixed I promise!

haha, that what I was gonna say. As long as it's on the to do list i'm happy, you guys are doing a great job with the forum updates

I can't fix shit though... I couldn't code myself out of a paper bag. Paul and JD I'm sure will come up with some slick genious solution.

What do you guys think about sites that use google search for their own search? I've seen it done before, and it seems to work decently.

 
It works well, won't that also allow more information to hit googles main search engines? Since certain pros name are repeated here often, when someone searches for something related to NS pro, their name will be more like to come top of the search results. Thats a good thing?
 
NS search bar does blow. I tend to use google myself, just stick in 'site:newschoolers.com' before your search phrase, the only thing is that a lot of pages tend to come up with a lot of hits on non-forum pages.

2 main things that need to change are the ability search thread content as well as thread title. That way, we can actually ifnd the threads titled '!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' where the actual thread is about the JOSS videos or something. The other thng is the ability to search the phrases in no particular order. if you want to find a Line vs. 4frnt comparison, line 4frnt in the searchbar would only come u with titles in taht particular order.

 
I think it's worth testing, I mean if we have to see their ads we might as well use thieir search engine.
 
that would be cool, and it would also be cool to have an average karma of the thread on display when browsing forums and cults, it could be right next to the dates
 
There aren't any google ads on this site anymore!

Nomen - you might be right that its unprofessional... I have no idea how hard it is to code one I just think google is cool.

 
That would be a really nice feature. And while a google searchbar might work, I agree that it would be kind of unprofessional and seem half-assed. If you guys could code a searchbar that really worked well that would be the best option.
