The concert review thread

What/who’s shows or concerts have you been to that you’d recommend or tell people to avoid attending?

I’ll start by saying that Juice WRLD sucks ass live

Del/heiro. Dude's washed. Or I wasn't high enough. Or both.

Saw cage the elephant @ the fox in boulder when they were on their up and up. Super impressed, but have heard mixed reviews since.

Saw Beck at Red Rocks because my gf wanted to go. I was a Beck fan but if it weren't for her I probably wouldn't have gone. Ended up being one of the best live shows I've ever seen! Saw Lil Wayne at X Games and have to say even though I'm not a huge fan, he sure knows how to get a crowd going and entertain. Absolute best concert I've ever been to was Soundgarden at red rocks but sadly that's just something that can't ever happen again. Nonetheless been to quite a few and these have been my favorites!

All Them Witches @The State Room in SLC a few years ago was great, Super small intimate venue which made it feel so much more alive. Good shit, a lot of my favorite bands are blowing up now and aren't really doing small circuits or hitting SLC much anymore, kind of a bummer.

Khruangbin at that same venue mentioned before. Didnt know who they were and went with my ex who got free tickets so that was a cool show.

King Buffalo and The Sword; Both killer bands, insane experience. The Sword played like an hour encore till like 1am that was wicked, at Metro Music Hall in SLC.

Most recent was Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats w/ Graveyard as their opener. Never heard of Graveyard before but they were incredible and are one of my favorite bands now. Uncle Acid was insane, total gut punch of heavyness and groovyness. Played all sorts of good songs, new ones and old ones, the band told some fuckers in the front row to get the fuck out cuz they were fighting and security took em away, some girl next to me cut her foot open dancing, lost her shoe, went into the pit to go retrieve it, and came back alive.....Shit was a fun show for sure. Also at Metro Music Hall.

Metro Music Hall seems to get some of my favorite stoner rock/stoner metal bands so im hyped, but my dream is to attend something like Desertfest in europe or one of the other massive desert rock/stoner rock/heavy psych/metal festivals in Europe.....Greece for some reason has been like a breeding ground for insane music.

If the Flaming Lips ever come to your city/town, YOU HAVE TO GO SEE THEM. Even if you don't listen to their music you will literally be blown away. Their set is insane. Better than all the bigger bands i've seen like QOTSA.

Dude YES. Nice, short, and I was never bored. All around good show.

seen them twice in the UK and also caught their show at Portland by myself when I was skiing at Hood earlier this year. Best show of my life.

Fuck dude I really need to see Uncle Acid live, and The Sword and most of the bands you've mentioned. They're just all insane. I'd love to go to Psycho Las Vegas one day, all the stoner/doom/psych bands play their and it's huge.

Only saw them once in Vancouver, but that’s lucky you got to see them a couple of times! For sure, they put on a great fucking show.

My fav show start to finish was Zeal and Ardor —> Baroness —> Deafheaven. All 3 bands were at the top of their game and just seemed to be loving what they were doing

How recently have you seen deafheaven? It seems George has kind of lost his voice.

I tried to use my BS ranking system on quality of the show and not necessarily how much I enjoy the performer; this is what I got from most memorable shows. Major Lazer is the closest thing to a thumping, organized riot that I've ever attended (and loved it) while Bob Dylan is the most trash event I have ever attended. Side note: Austin City Limits is a chunk of change, but COMPLETELY worth it and I think the same about most festivals in Europe.

Mine go as far back as 10 years and none in the last two years, but:

-Pretty Lights: Absolutely

-Flogging Molly: Yes, probably not an absolutely because it was a festival

-The Weeknd @ ACL: Absolutely

-Florence and the Machine: Yes

-Bob Dylan: No (Hell, no)

-Snoop/Lion: Maybe

-Purity Ring: Absolutely

-ASAP Rocky/ASAP Mob: Yes, but high probability you'll get jumped if you don't act right

-Lil Wayne: Maybe, but a higher probability you'll get jumped if you don't act right

-Mumford and Sons: Absolutely

-Kid Cudi (early 2010's): Absolutely

-Collie Buddz: Absolutely, if you're into it

-DL Incognito: Absolutely

-Chance the Rapper: Absolutely

-Alt-J: Yes and I'm not even into that

-Major Lazer: Absolutely, hands down the best show I've ever been to

-Crystal Castles: Absolutely

-Phantogram: Absolutely

-The XX: Absolutely

-Disclosure: Absolutely

-TV on the Radio: Absolutely

-Brand New: Yes (Could be hit or miss from what I've heard otherwise)

-Marshlemmo: Absolutely, if you're into it

-Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad: Absolutely

-Big Gigantic: Yes

-Wiz Khalifa: Yes

-Avicii: Yes, just glad I got to experience it when I could

-Zed: Absolutely and I'm not even into that

-Any part of Wu-Tang: Hit or miss quality, but absolutely a ball

-Any Vans Warped Tour: Hit or miss, I went to a ton of these late 00's/early10's and now they just look like they're trying to lure the late 20's/early 30's crowd back with washed up bands and a few standouts

I was planning on going to desertfest or something this summer but got school but oh well, maybe one day.. Its on the bucketlist, some sort of stoner/desert rock show. Soo many good bands in this genre its hard to keep track of.

Uncle Acid was so good. Way heavier sound in person though but its incredible. Would love to see them again.

Another band that sounds like them is Magmakammer

Fuck I’d be very keen to see them. Must be pretty good to want to see them 3 times

The dudes are old but they still rip like they’re coked up and in there 20s

Went to the subtronics show at ogden in Denver this year. Absolutely fkn insane. I also rolled hard as fuck so that might have something to do with it ahah

Hell yeah. Nah didn’t go that ended up being the night off lot of alcohol has been consumed. Definitely wish I had gone.

Concert I really want to go to is Dillon Francis on NYE in San Fran. Looks like a badass venue and they got a second stage with silent disco for the shitty openers. Free booze will help and they are advertising best bartender to custy ratio.

I took a chick I was seeing to see him at the Grand in Boston a couple months ago and she got kicked out for being too drunk before he got on. Haven’t talked to her since.

Omgggg the xx would be sick, they are so cool

I know I’m missing a ton (not to mention too many local/smaller bands to count) but here are some of the bigger names that I could think of while sitting here..

Death Cab For Cutie- Absolutely loved it. Felt like I was watching Pollard ski the entire time.

The Strumbellas- Yes for feel good music

Nothing But Thieves- Yes

Awolnation- can’t stand ”Sail” but in concert it was completely different live and they’ve got some other really rocky music

The Offspring- Yes. So sick.

State Champs- Opened for Sleeping With Sirens and honestly ended up being my favorite set

Tonight Alive- Chick lead singer was was sick

WaterParks- Nothing too special but a good opener and could vibe with their music

Sleeping With Sirens- Kellin Quinn is incredible and it was a good mix of rowdy and laid back

Nicholas Petricca- Yes

Joshua James- Yes

Krewella- Had never heard of them but was pleasantly surprised with a good time

Neon Trees- Yes

Imagine Dragons- I’m not an Imagine Dragons fan but this may have been top 5 favorite shows of all time. Loveloud festival was an awesome event and they beat the hell put

Smokepurpp- About what you would imagine and honestly there were no complaints

Post Malone- So good live and puts on an incredible show. Saw him after his first album when his tickets were around $30 and the dude is chill as fuck and just happy to be there

Billy Currington- Not really huge on country but the guy makes you like country for an hour (same goes for Jake Owen and Jason Aldean)

Dan + Shay- Pass

Quinn XCII- Super fun show and the guy has got some good music

Rufus Du Sol- Felt like a spiritual experience

Zhu- Not the biggest fan of the guys music..gets a little too repetitive when it sounds like the same song for 20 minutes.

Hippie Sabotage- Seen them twice now and it’s a great time every time

Local Natives- Yes

Snakeships-Yes

WIZ KHALIFA- Stood touching the stage and it was my favorite concert of all time hands down! Wiz is the fucking man and puts on an incredible set.

Carlie Hanson- Opened for Bad Suns and was the most entertaining part of the show

Bad Suns- Honestly got a little bored
