The collapse of the united states of america

hey, Tahoe's got the best season they've had in 30 years, and they said the same thing about last year. I'm not worried. Once bush is out of office and the country votes in a new leader that is unlike bush since he's so unpopular, our problems that he's ignoring/making worse/sparking will hopefully start to come to an end.

Man you yuppies need just shut the hell up.

First of all the only reason oil has gone up and is much more important is because of the economies of China and India. and saying that 70% of the oil in the Middle East is just ridiculous, it is just easier to get to. As far alternative resources, we have had an alternative resource since the 50's; Nuclear Fission. The only problem there is is because people are afraid of it, they think of Hiroshima and Nagasakie(Which actually didnt end ww2, the fire bombings of Tokyo took care of that) O, also Russia cant do anything right. Nuclear is the Clean Air Energy. After all Half Life changes with each isotope of Uranium, We can enrich more so the half life is less than 100 years. Not that we have alot of Nucler Waste anyway. France has a much better energy policy than the US and Canada. After a plant is done with the uranium it is sent on to other plants that refine the waste even more. Wind Power and Solar Power will not cut it until we get better technologies. http://www.nei.org/

“melting ice caps, rising sea levels, atmospheric changes, desertification, stronger weather systems, shiftying plates, combined with our gread to take from the earth (do we actually know what we're doing when we take large (and I mean large) quantities of substances from underground?) The magnetic field is (slowly) changing, it has been doing so forever, but what if we fuck things up... fuck, for all we know we could completely change the magnetic make up and tilt of our planet, doing more damage than any of our climate change computer models could ever predict.”

You have got to be kidding? O, your not?

First “Melting ice caps, Rising sea levels, Atmospheric changes, Desertification, stronger weather systems – all of these run in a cycle, we have very little control over these. Ice Ages come and go. Weather is an anomaly which we really do not understand.

For Example in 1934 temperatures in the US were up .5 degrees Celsius however in 1970 they were down .2 degrees Celsius, wouldn’t you say that CO2 was going up in that time? Of course it was, then why didn’t we see a temperature increase? Because it is an anomaly. Since the 19th century the US temperatures has gone up and down in 30 year cycles.

In Punta Arenas (The closet city to Antarctica in the world) the temperatures has seen declining since 1888( the fist time we started documenting temperature).

Cities across the US have seen declining temperatures while others have seen an increase in temperature. The earth changes. You only hear about the temperature increase such in Pasadena California, which no other city has had a rise of 3 degrees Celsius. In New York cities have had declining temperatures except New York City.

Most of what you hear is from the main stream media.

Of course plates shift; I have no idea why you tried to make that a point. As for the magnetic variations on the planet, we have very little if no control, magma flows will change that. Also, you cannot predict weather, computer models are worthless.

Please if you find anything wrong in this data tell me, I got this from the Unites States Historical Climatology Network and from giss.nasa.gov.

China is growing too fast for its government. The people are staring to run the country not the government. China and its Communist government is starting to loss control over its people which will cause a conflict between the two, most likely with the rest of the world getting involved.

Im really not sure how you can even blame Bush and Cheney on anything that is going on now because every thing that is going on has been foreseeable, such as 9/11 when the Clinton Administration captured a Islamic Extremist trying to blow up the WTC the first time with his car bomb.(But to is lack of engineering knowledge he screwed up miserably.) This Terrorist said that we will run planes into the towers as a FBI agent showed him that the towers still stood after his ply. This world is in a new age, Evil thrives when good people do nothing and Apparently America has taken the initiative. The UN has now became a joke, isn’t one of its goals to prevent discrimination? Well they did a fine job in Rwanda , Sudan, Iraq, and Afghanistan… o wait they did nothing. We see how corrupt an organization like the UN can get(Oil for Food). As Ronald Reagan says world powers must lead the world and help others.

O and to some things up www.herestobeer.com

I am going to laugh at you guys 50 years down the road when we havnt ran out of oil (Which Environmentalists always say)and the world hasnt ended.

brettm, you had some valid points in there, but the thing is, we are affecting our environment. if we weren't, we would see less environmental change. this is not just the world and its anamolies. yes, history has shown that they do happen, but we can't just sit back when we know we are affecting our climate. and the thing is, oil probably won't run out in 50 years, but lets think long term. we have to find a cleaner, efficient, abundant source of energy to replace what we have. the effect will be 2 fold. we will stop fucking up ou planet, and 2 we can obviously have enery to use and not be so dependent on oil and other countries. yes the technology for solar and wind power isn't at the point to even remotely support our economy. but we need to put money into it to research, or the world will be fucked.

*start sarcasm*

YAY!!!

As long as we can still drive our big gas guzzlers and pave over more farm land, who cares!

We dont need clean air...thats shits played anyways.

The huge amounts of exgust going into the air have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with global warming...not even a bit.

*end sarcasm*

Read up on your phsyical geography and atomosphere shit before you make any comments about how burning oil as nothing to do with global warming.

Don't play that "its a natural warming cycle" shit either.

Yes, we are on one, but have you looked at the patterns? The rate at which we are raising the temp is unreal.

Burning oil is fucking up this planet. Period.

Brettm, When you start your post by calling us all yuppies and telling us to shut the hell up, it immediately weakens anything you have to say.

mostly because youre wrong.

Oil will be around in 50 years, but it will be so expensive only the rich will be able to afford it. Plus, we're looking at peak oil in 2-5 years. that means over half the accessible oil on the planet is used up.

As I said earlier, what this all boils down to, what we're looking at in the near future, mostly for suburbia and urban centers is 'Kill your neighbour before he Kills you'. We're going to have to become a lot more self reliant, growing our own foods, and storing our own fuels. Now when Jim from next door comes by and tries to steal my chickens, tomatoes, and pot, What am I going to do?

Bust a cap?

Shoot him in the leg, cut his fingers off, hang him from the telephone pole in front of my house to set an example of what happens if the rest of the lazy crackheads try to steal my shit?

I plan on investing in some solar panels, a wind generator, and a huge steel drum for oil, gas, and diesel.

Sit on that shit, itll be a gold mine in 20yrs.

YOu have no idea if we're in a natural climate shift or not. First of all I dont understand how you can deny the incredible impact we have had on our planet in the last 50 years, which is way out of whack with any natural system this planet has ever seen.

I love how all these threads come up and there is a huge discussion on whose fault it is and what we're gonna do to stop it. If or when it happens then we will deal with it. Humans are very ingenuative if you hadn't noticed and they will find a way to fix this problem. I myself am moving towards renewable resources like a windmill and solar panels because I do not want to rely on oil which in the future.

First of all i didnt say polluting our air was good. in LA there is a problem, crapy air, however on the global scale we cannot control.

Also in 50 years im sure we wont be using oil anymore in our cars or plants, this is where the best alternative comes to play; Nuclear Energy. For cars perhaps hydrogen is the alternative( alot can change in half a century)the most abundent element in our universe.

As for oil becoming to expensive for the ordinary people that is just ignorant. First of all, although oil exploration right now is down mostly because of EPA regulations in the US, we are learning new ways of obtaining oil from shale coalbed methane and others. We have enourmous amounts of oil in North America alone, it is just cheaper to obtain it from the Middle East because of their lack of regulations. Oil will never become too expensive(although the price does suck).

As for Wind and Solar, wind doesnt have a possibility unless you create huge wind farms. (why not use a Nuclear Facility that wont cut birds in half and takes up a small portion of land.)

Solar has great potential but with the lack of technology i think Nuclear will out pace it in the near future.

Besides the wind farm in southern Wyoming can barely brew our New Belgium Beer, that is if it does, or just supplies our grid with a constant.

yea go there I hear it's real nice this time of year...happy job hunting.

seriously though. the front running alternative fuels are not a solution now, but atleast people are trying, and experimenting with diffrent ideas. Just because biomass fuels are not efficiantly made now it dosen't mean we should abandon them. Hell you don't need petro to make moonshine, just some grain and yeast. I don't know how they refine it now but people have been making alcohol since the beggining of time and I suspect they didn't use fossil fuels to produce it.

hey bettrm (or whatever your name is)...

...yes, all those things in that list are uncontrolable for the fact that they will happen... but that doesn't mean that we are affecting them in some ways. the point of me saying it wasn't to say that we are causing those things, I was simply stating that we have no control over this planet, and yet we act as though we are better than the planet and we can do and take whatever we want... it's bullshit. but apparently that was over your head.

maby if ur president wasn't a complete duche it wouldnt happen u have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 9 times

whatever better than canada ur gettin beat by the chinks their taking over are country it 10 years asians will be the majority in canada

I think it is interesting how ppl speculate about the future (of oil and climate and such), and call it fact. No one knows what will actually happen. Then best we have are educated guesses.

i think people will jus have to stop using cars so much. the us should be putting billions into public transportation so that we can prevent it. like in sf most busses use alternative fuel sources

zero emission vehicles bitches. we need more of these babys and less of those SUV gas guzzling bubbas.

It's time we start thinking outside the box and learn to not fear change and a litle loss. The technology for alternative sources is already here, we just aren't regognizing/embrasing/supporting it because so many of us think it's a load of shit or just fear the change.

so ive read little bits here and there...

most of the ethanol plants theyre building in the US are being fueled by cola power... negating any reason to have them.

and complaining about "genetically modified crops" is bunk. a lot of the modifications they do are to reduce the need for pesticides, which should be a bigger concern to you. theyre what run off into water supplies and ruin ecosystems and theyre the product were going to run out of. creating crop strains that are more resistant to disease and infestation (which is a bad term, but we want to eat our crops so... i guess thats that) is a lot more beneficial than running big crop losses to bugs or disease.

You must be retarded or something...

GM plants are only making the bugs more resistant to pesticides and the GM plants. Its going to get to the point where the resistant bugs are going to be to powerful for any form of pesticide we have today.

Then what? GM it some more?

The bugs can adapt much faster then we can change the plant.
