The Buy/Sell section is awful

The system for buy/sell is seriously awful. It is impossible to tell what is for sale and I am always looking at the same sales everyday. The cleat solution is a more specific selling system. One where you categorize the product you have and list and asking price and provide pictures for each item. This would allow people to search for not only specific types of items (skis, hoodies, pants...etc) but it would also allow people to search for specific items in each of these sections. This would make it much easier for people to actually sell their items and It would honestly make the selling system much more user friendly. This may be something difficult to do, however it would be revolutionary.

To see an example of what I am saying check out the buy and sell section on Pinkbike.com (http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/)

So list each item individually and have a form to fill out? Not a horrible idea, just isn't too practical at the moment because it would require an entire revamp of the forum, and possibly re-coding the entire site.

Yeah I understand it's awful, but the change in practicality for both the buyer and seller would be unbelieveable, it is a change that should be considered. I think that it would also increase the number of items bought and sold. How much easier would it be to buy boots if you could simply go to the boots section, then select your size and then search for a model. I'm just saying that the practicality is endless.

You've got some cool ideas but you need to understand, to make all of these changes the NS programers would have to take a few months at least just to implement that system and right now they have a HUGE list of things to change and alot of those things are ASAP changes that will definitely back them up for most of the summer.

Also, think about how this b/s/t system would benefit for NS, it wouldn't. NS isn't going to put a bunch of money and time into making a a b/s/t system at least not anytime soon.

The b/s and wtb forums have been working for years, they work now too, you just have to know how to use it.

I hate to admit you are right, but it would be an unbelievable amount of work, I guess its just a system I will have to accept, it has worked for me in the past, but it can be frustrating at times.

I guess we'll agree to disagree, i dont think it would draw that much traffic at alll

I mean, I don't think it would be significant, but it definitely wouldn't hurt.

Also, if people want to use google to find things in bst, enter this: site:newschoolers.com/ns/forums/forumthreads/cat_id/8/ "what ever you are looking for"

just replace the words in quotes with the thing you want to find. Make sure to keep the quotes. You can adjust the dates of the results by clicking on search tools.

Definitely, but the amount of time and money it would take to create said BST system would outweigh the benefits 10 fold.

Like Evan said, it would probably be a buttload of work to implement something like that. Unfortunately we have a pretty limited team here at Newschoolers, and at the moment all our energy is being spent on revamping what we consider priority sections/features of the site. I think a better searchbar will definitely help, but that it will always come down to members respecting the rules and conventions of the forum.

I could be wrong though, and I'm sure Doug will chime in with a more technical response when he has a chance.

Would it be possible to allow thread creators in BST to delete their own threads after their stuff is gone? I don't know shit about coding and how much time it would take but I think this would be a nice feature.

This is actually a pretty slick system.

Jason summed it up perfectly. We have always had plans to do this, but simply we're focusing our dev on the core issues in priority order. Maybe if more people didn't use adblock, and we didn't lose like $75k / year to it we could afford more development time and build this. :)

Lol - anyway I'd love to really do this properly. Its even on our 'list' - we just have a ton of other things to fix before we get to it. Believe me - I'd love to do this.

Pretty crazy eh! I was so surprised when I saw the stats behind adblock users as well. It's 100% true though, and that number will only grow as Newschooler grows -- unless members start enabling ads on the site.

Really? I don't mind basic banner ads, but those Oakley ads from back in the day did it for me. Ad-Block the hell out of NS now.

Furthermore -https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/751259/

Maybe if mods spent some time deleting stupidly titled threads in B/S, the search would work more effectively.

The search bar is fine. I can type in what I want, and get it.

What i hate is when I can't just browse B/S because it makes my brain hurt. That's why i stopped using NS. Because it took on the IQ of a pre-teen on speed.

Well it would be great if you give it a try again, those ads are long gone. You're doing significant long-term damage by continuing to block. Of course, its your choice I can't force you to do anything.

I don't know if you actually stopped using NS either... your'e posting right now no? ;)

I came back to throw a pair of new/undrilled Klint Kryptos in B/S for $350 shipped. And haven't even seen a nibble. But it looks like streetwear is selling like crazy.

And I saw just how crazy it had gotten here. Call me "passionate" but I got a little heated when I saw just how juvenile the site has gotten.

I missed the old home page with the news in the top left then all the other sections posted around it... The new home page looks like a bulletin board at a community center with random stuff everywhere and no way to quickly see what I want. Just all of it tossed up there in some hap-hazard fashion.

At this point, I mean, I would think about turning the AdBlock off, but it's not something I really care about anymore (no offense). It kinda just went down the dumper after the Grind acquisition when they obviously put pressure on you guys to cater to a younger, hipper crowd and with me pushing 30... I don't feel important to NS anymore. I remember when Source picked up Grind they mentioned 18-35 as the target demo. They need to either take a closer look, or figure out how to draw folks back in, because it's all tweens on NS as of late.

Which is silly since I am the demographic with money to spend. But you guys are bound by Source at this point and that's just kinda it.

Doug, I love you. One of my most memorable trips was the Jay trip way way back with the whole crew where we had kids drinking out of shoes and tall tee contests in the condo, then freezing our asses off on the GM Freezer the next morning. It was great. THIS ONE!! https://www.newschoolers.com/readnews/2409.0/Jay-Peak-Takeover

I don't feel like it's the same Newschoolers anymore. Sorry man.

PS: When am I gonna see you at the TNF Park and Pipe North East stops?

First of all it's july, not exactly a hot time to sell skis. If they're bigger pow skis, try tgr.

Second of all you're 30 and bitching about NS and how juvenile it is? Are you serious? You have only experienced NS as an adult, you don't even know what it is like to be 15 and have newschoolers.

I dunno where you got the target market as 18-35, sure you have money to spend but you're not gonna buy anything these kids under 20 are going to buy, think about it. Plus, under 18 = mommy and daddy buy the gear unless its the slight chance the person isn't a spoiled rich white kid.

Third of all, the front page isn't random or hap-hazard, its based on the rating system, the best stuff gets to the top. You can filter the front page and see anything you want. Learn how to use it, you may find it to be amazing.

Last of all, NS is not the same anymore at all. When was the last time you came on here? This last year there has been a ton of new changes, but really this site has been the same for the past 4-5 years, if not longer. I don't think the acquisition by grind really was the turning point at all. My beginning years on NS (03-05) were so much different than any year following that.

Things change, NS becomes less and less appealing to me too but im also getting older, i first found ns when i was like 13 and now im 24. a lot of things in life change and im slightly shocked that a 30 year old does not see this as a normal thing in his life, everything changes as you get older, whether you want to or not.

I know NS isn't the same. That's why I am saying it sucks now.

18-35 is from the press release when Source acquired Grind.

Hard to take you seriously when your getting paid by the site you are defending. Judging by the responses in the "when did NS go bad" thread, I would say I'm not alone in my feelings.

hey old man, since when did you expect the internet to give a fuck about your feelings??
your crybaby corporate-conspiracy bullshit is pretty irritating, other than pointing out obvious flaws in b/s (which NS never can and will care about) i haven't heard one ounce of constructive criticism. if NS sucks so bad for you then fuck off and quit posting.
the video and photo sections can't hurt your feelings, right? go get some ben and jerry's and a few romantic comedies from redbox, and maybe come back later when you're feeling better, ok?

IT'S NOT HARD TO SEARCH BST

if you're searching for a specific item here is what i would do. go into BST, and scroll down the first 4 pages only clicking on threads created today. repeat this towards the end of each day and you won't ever miss a new sale thread, but you'll also never click the same thread twice.

BINGO, money.

Maybe take your own advice and...340346.png

But really. Your current B/S thread title is what I mean. Whats up with all the caps and ADD wording? You start selling your Ritalin instead of taking it when your mom gives it to you in the morning?

Read the thread. Lots of constructive criticism has been given. The who point of criticism is to inspire change by pointing out whats wrong. Not getting a pat on the ass from Dad and being told to just keep trying without getting any better like you think.

You are illustrating my point perfectly.

And to answer your question: I expect the internet to give a fuck about my feelings when it tries to advertise to me to make money from my membership on a website.

You rule Seanahue. Keep being you. Mom and dad will be proud. Or at least they'll lie and say they are.

Still, all I've heard from you is "boofuckinghoo, my old man eyes can't handle the offensive titles of sale threads these days, goddamn kids need to change their ways and the goddamn mods need to do their goddamn UNPAID jobs better! *grumble*mumble*"
Yes, my current thread title is obnoxious. So fucking what.
It accomplishes the goal of ∆∆∆MAKING**IT**VISIBLE**IN**A**SEA**OF**SHIT∆∆∆, and therefore, my shit sells. If I could color all over it with the most annoyingly bright highlighter, I would.
What SPECIFICALLY would you do to change that? Or the greater "problem" you seem to "feel" with NS culture at-large? I did read the thread, and I also really liked the pinkbike suggestion; you should try making contributions like that instead of pissing and moaning all the time.
Your comments are even easier to dislike when you adblock and then publicly call-out NS for not having the resources for services you refuse to help support. That's like this one time I didn't pay my garbage bill, and then wrote a super pissed letter to the trash company when there was trash all over my house... except that didn't happen, cause I'm not a fucking idiot.
You sound like you should be smarter than this; instead of being angry, you should just accept that your shitty Klint skis won't sell anywhere no matter how you or anyone else stylizes their sale-threads.

So, you are agreeing that B/S is a "sea of shit"?

Isn't that the point of this thread? To talk about ways to fix that (of which you have provided none)?
