The "BMW" thread.

I also read that the new X1 powder ride version comes in matte black and matte white. It has an all black matte interior with k2 logos, and what's pretty awesome is there is a harman kardon stereo system built into the roof rack for listening outside.

I'd like to see what the matte black one looks like.

Here's something interesting. While the logo comes from the Bavarian flag (check it out)

The blue and white diamonds on the flag actually stand for the Bavarian sky. So there you have it.

good luck, man. Buying a new car (especially bidding on one) is exciting. That BMW looks like it's in mint condition but is this what an 1988 goes for with that many miles? Just wondering.

But then again, when my dad bought my mom's he searched nationwide to find one with all of the options that he wanted, in the body style that she wanted. He found her 92 with just 40,000 miles on it and flew to NYC to get it. I think he paid about 12-13k, which is definitely way lower miles but maybe M5s with those options are considered collector cars or go for a lot more.

except that the failure rates with that have been astronomical. My friend's dad is on engine #4 in his, only ~150k miles.

fer real? they have a reputation for being extremely tough reliable race engines. id assume the same would go for their street cars, even more so.. they eat oil, so not keeping up on oil changes i could see killing them.

but its as the crow flies. you can cover crazy distances extremely fast. even our piper arrow could cover thousands of miles a day.

1991 325 coupe (e30) looking to do an S50 (99 M3 engine) swap over the winter to creat the ultimate drifiting bimmer. Eventually will do an E30 M3 widebody conversion and it will be staced the fuk'd out.

Have you ever driven a 328 with a manual? It's a fun ass little car, and definitely FAR from shitty. I'd take it over just about any American/Japanese sedan currently out. However, I wouldn't recommend driving a 335 to someone who is satisfied with the 328, because it blows it out of the water in terms of sheer enjoyment (for me, at least), and you'll never look back haha.

hi, have you ever driven one? they can be fun as fuck but also it's a great everyday car. I'm pretty sure they don't make a shit bmw...

aaand lastly I'm 1. a girl driver 2. in collegewhy the fuck would i(or my parents) spend a shit load of money on a car that is more than likely going to see a crash or two

oh and it was a present so why would I complain about it being the cheapest one they make when I did not and do not pay a single cent for it.

dude coming from a shit 10 year old BMW, I wouldn't be talking shit. Even if it is one of the cheapest models they are still fun to drive, maybe not as much as a 335 like ar6 said but still pretty fun.

The x1 isn't a 1series, it's a SUV based on the 1series. I dont really know what they call it, so i just went with "1 line" as in 1M, 1series and x1.

And notice how the m cars are named m3, m5 and m6, but the 1series m model is called 1m? I wonder if they're planning on making a new m1 in the future.

I agree. I love my car for everyday use, but it doesn't compare to any other car in my family. In my opinion...

My dad bought my mom an grey M3 for their anniversary and has a black Porsche 911 Turbo S and a silver Audi RS 5 for himself. But of course like I said before they aren't willing to spend that kind of money on me for my college car. However I've driven all 3 and there are times I really wish I hadn't.

Granted not everyone's the same, But I look at most 328 like someone bragging about having louise vitton bags when it ends up only being a coin purse they got used for 15 bucks.

No hate since they are great cars my buddy has a 335 and its amazing, i just hate when people thrown names around trying to allude to wealth, when you can rent a 328 for like 299 and a few grand down.

also not sure what world you live in but saying.... why would "my parents spend a shit load of money on a car that is more than likely going to see a crash or two" and while referring to a new BMW make you sound a little pretentious, disconnected with the real world, no understanding of money/hard work...the list goes on and on....just my opinion though-

Pssssttt...your jealousy is showing. Stop acting like a whiny cunt because you drive a $2000 beater and she drives a Bimmer. You act like if your parents offered you a new BMW you'd be like "nope, I'm good. I'll happily continue to drive this old shitwagon."

Put in aftermarket apex seals and you should be all set. The stock ones melt. If he has a rx7 from 2nd gen and back with forced induction they absolutely need aftermarket apex seals. There is only three moving parts and typically its the apex seals which go though the most wear and tear.

What kind of ENGINEER? Just because he's an engineer doesn't mean he knows how to instantly work on a rotary engine. An ER doctor isn't going to be able to perform open heart surgery just because he's a doctor...

nope. I don't have a car anymore as I live-in the city so no need for one. I never bitched about my cars growing up since I was just happy they worked and weren't complete pieces or crap. No way am I jelious though, If my parents offered me a bimmer of course I'd take it-actually id rather the few hundred a month to help pay off my student loans.

I just thing its funny when someone says, my parents didn't get me an expensive car since I'm a girl and in college and will likley crash it 1 or 2 times-I'm just laughing at peoples perception of wealth dude, to me any BWM is expensive as shit and well beyond mine or most likely my family's budget.

He's a mechanical engineer that works specifically in the engine division. The potential of the rotary is what pushed him to buy one to being with (well that and his employee purchase plan).

this is a piece of sex and i want to be inside of it, but this doesn't change the fact that i've found bmw drivers to be a higher proportion of rich dickheads than any other car owner.

Are YOU dumb? What the fuck gives you the right to judge someone based on what car their parents bought them? You act like it makes her or her parents bad people. Maybe they worked their fucking asses off to buy those cars. Maybe your parents didn't work hard enough. Did you stop to think about it like that? Probably not, because you're too busy worrying about what other people are doing with their money.

Is $299/month some sort of lease deal? Because I looked up the 328i and it's about 40k to start, and a car loan (5 year) on a 40k car is a lot more than $299 month...and most have 3 year car loans, not 5, so it would even be more. I'm paying $600/month for my 30k 5-year loan.

You are so fucking confusing. You start off saying that her car is a cheap piece of crap and then quickly move to "it's expensive as shit and out of my price range." So which is it? Or did you just feel like putting her down?

The thread is is titled the BMW thread...since she has one of their more affordable models should she create a new thread titled "Cheap BMWs post here" so that she can post the car she "is in love with" with pride and without someone making her feel bad about something she takes pride in and cares about.

Screw you, bro.

Start a "top of line luxury automobile" thread if that's all you want to see. If I posted my "piece of shit" 89 4runner in a thread titled "official Toyota thread," and someone called it a piece of shit or gave me any crap whatsoever I'd be pissed. Everyone has the right to take pride in what they drive without someone else tearing them down.

lol at this. I was making a joke about young women drivers. I have never crashed a car and take care of my car like its my first born child.

My parents work really fucking hard to make the money that they have and I am incredibly fortunate to live the way I get to. I got my car as a present for getting a full ride to a great college. The money that my parents would be using to pay for my school went towards my car. I earned that shit by working my ass off in high school. We made a deal that I could have whatever car I wanted. I chose a car much less expensive than my bmw because I felt like shit asking for my parents to pay for any more of my life seeing as college is supposed to be where you become an adult and do things for yourself. but they surprised me with my 328i. compared to the used ford escape I was asking for it was pretty fucking sweet.

I understand that my bmw is the cheapest of them all. But it's a safe car that rides nice and can do about 115 on the interstate on a good day. and even when I drove a piece of shit Mercury Milan that was falling apart I still took pride in my car. In my family we work towards the things we want and reward ourselves when we reach our goals. keeps us motivated.

sorry if that was too pretentious for you dear.

Its pretty simple, I never said her car is crap, its much nicer than the cars I use to have, I was laughing at her phrasing, i guess I did catch her sarcasm. Don't take that shit personally, that's awesome you worked hard and got into college, no hate at all for that.

To reiterate my point- I dont like that people perceive cars at the lower end of a lux automobile dealer to be super exclusive and high end...this goes back to the OP.

Its like the old 230 benz, yea nice but not something to brag about. It annoys me people are super obsessed with labels and the badge a car has, new bimmers are super nice definitely, but personally instead of dropping 40k+ on the cheapest bmw, I'd much rather get a slightly used car without the name, or a new car from a completely different manufacturer that would be nicer and cheaper in my option just without the 'brand-name'.

I'll stand by what I said, I bet the majority of America would view a BMW as a pretty expensive car that most middle class people cant afford (you have to remember the average household only makes around 50k a year). But when you can lease one for 349$ ( I think 299$ was a few years ago) its really not that much-but people view you as having more money than you actually do....if that makes any scene, sorta just to keep up appearances if you catch what I'm saying.

Basically my post/rant was about the OP, I've talked to too many dick head kids in high school/college/wherever it is that brag about having; BMW's Audi, Benz's when it actuality they are, early 90's 3 series rusted out with 110 horses under the hood, or 1998 audi a4's with 200k on the odometer, or shitty 1999 kompressors with 150 thousand miles, even though a 8 year old accord with a moderate amount of miles is worth just as much if not more than all 3 previously stated cars combined-not sure how anyone can argue with that.
