The blindness of park skiing

It seems like 95% of the kids on this site see nothing but park skiing, they are blinded by it. I hope you all know there is a lot more to skiing than jumps and rails. It is fun for sure, but get out and learn how to ski trees bumps pow, I know some of you cant ski those things but try to.
 
I ski pretty much only park, and I really would want to try ski some pow but I dont live on a mountain and we dont have any bc runs where I live. I heard lapland has some tree skiing so if I get the chance Ill definetally gonna try that... So you guys who have the opportunity to ski pow, do so, cause some of us dont.

half these kids have never skied pow before because they dont have access...dont beat the dead horse anymore
 
That's true, to some extent anyway. I like park, but I ski more just on the mountain and just do tricks and whatever out of the park. I wish I had some pow or trees or something better but I don't. I like ramps, but I'd rather be jumping off cliffs or going through trees.

That's why when I go to colorado, coming from NJ, I stay away form the park and go everywhere else. I know some people would go to like keystone (their park is good right?) or something and stay in the park all day. I think that's dumb. I can ski park at home, why would I go hundreds of miles to ski more park? I juts go to a-bay and have fun there, especially the bowl and tree areas/glades.
 
I know what you mean but it could be because 73.2% of this site has not had the pleasure of skiing a real mountain. Different strokes for different folks.
 
yup, i live on the east and dont see pow too often, and dont exactly have money to drop for some time out west. although when the powder hits i will not be in the park, just the trees

i think some people don't recognize how lucky they are to live in an all out skiing paradise when us midwestern kids and east coasters have nothing but park to survive on. If we could, we would. But no :(
 
exactly whether it be a summer setup or a handrail its skiing. with that sadi i do enjoy ripping a nice groomer
 
I don't see what's sad, or sadi, about liking to rip groomers. What's not fun about going 90mph down a steep slope blowing by gapers left and right? Not racing either, you're not doing it to win but for fun. It would be better if there was pillows and trees, but there aren't and it's still fun anyway.
 
The ratio of people wanting to "talk down" on park skiers seems higher than park skiers trying to do the same to mtn skiers. I'm glad when I go on the hill, wherever it may be, I'm out to have fun, and don't care what other people are doing, but I hope they're having fun too.
 
^ True. I'm not here to talk down on park skiers. Go have fun, that's it. I would hope people who see me ripping down a groomer all day don't hate on me for it. I can't think of many forms of skiing that wouldn't be considered fun by the general population of NS. Racing included. Fast is fun sometimes, but I'd rather do it for fun not winning. Still, if college offers it, I'd take it and race.
 
i seem to think that most of the newschoolers.com community is based out of the east, where they cant ski in real powder. and im sure at least half of the people based out of the west do ski powder all the time, but they know that newschoolers is more park oriented. theyll talk about bc booters and such but many of us dont know what its like to ski the powder that they talk about once in a while.

i myself make the whole mountain my park.. bumps, glades, butters and handrags on the headwalls of blue and green trails to have some fun. i have fun all over the mountain. then i head to the park.
 
I guarantee that half the people on this site could slay BC better than you. What a stupid thing to say.
 
i saw a kid at stratton last year decked out in tall t's and looked overall just like a park skier saw him coming down kiderbrook kid coudnt ski for his life i find that pathetic. i mean everyone should be able to atleast make a proper carve
 
yeah honestly im sick of people hating on park rats its often because they just dont get the opportunity but mabey some just enjoy it more
 
Moguls suck anyway, its like, how can we make skiing completely ridiculous and as hard as possible? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I don't know, I've always hated moguls there never seemed like a point when there was a whole mountain that didn't have ridiculous bumps all over it. It is sort of fun to carve around in between them but as far as blasting down them with your knees taking a massive hit every second, I'm cool on that. I am always impressed when people are good at it though.
 
If i could choose between nice powder or the park id choose nice powder in a second. sadly i live in connecticut and dont have that choice same with a lot of people so your post is actually really stupid.
 
I love moguls. Not the gay competition man made moguls though. I like the "springtime moguls under the liftline at Mad River" bumps

sure throwing down sick tricks under a park lift is great, but the most amazing feeling ever is when you have a bunch of old geysers cheering for you because you are ripping bumps.

ah fuck i can't wait. thank you for making me ever more excited.
 
Moguls are pretty fun man, although I dont really like skiing them on twins sure you can do it but I like the technical side of skiing moguls and learning how to control my skiing. I like them because its difficult, its a challenge and when you absolutely rip them its a fucking cool feeling especially steep sets. I find its pretty good practice for skiing tight trees. I have to practice them and get much better at them for instructing anyway but its sick when people can completely rip them turn anywhere on the bump and catch air with some steeze and miss ones out. It definatley helps knowing a few pointers though really helped me with mine biggest thing to me is making a little ankle movement on the top just gives you a tiny bit of extra time to prepare for the next bump and you can acutally get some sick flow going on.

But yeah I love all aspects of skiing even learning the CSIA perfect from stuff, like tanner said in reasons, its all skiing, and it helps keep me always interested always something to learn or improve just the same with doing park or w/e.
 
I'll remember to keep that in mind when I'm skiing man-made in January on 60 degree days....... if only I could be as cool.....

 
I have access to powder. But I still choose to shred the park, and jibs specifically, because I enjoy it the most.
The park allows you to be more creative, and it's simply what gets me the most stoked.
You say it as though park skiing is somehow inferior to BC or moguls. But skiing is whatever you want it to be. Sliding a rail is as much skiing as hitting a monstrous pillow line.

ya alot of people on here are on the east coast. luckily i live in CO and get to ski powder practically everday in december and january.
 
No, encourage those people to stay in the park.

1. It leaves more fresh for me

2. I don't want gun motions and rap music brought into pow skiing

Really though, who cares what people ski, I thought the idea of skiing was fun.

See to me, skiing is park. That isn't because it's all I know, or all I believe in, but because it's all I have. So don't throw that negative connotation on park skiing or on skiers who only know how to hit jumps and slide rails... its borderline insulting. I ski a 200 foot hill, I have nothing but park, and I enjoy the hell out of it. Isn't that what skiing is all about? Now go back and enjoy the hell out of your epic pow and I'll enjoy the hell out of my park. Peace out.

but since im here already. i love skiing in and out of the park and i do them about 50-50. I have no problem with someone who stays in allll day or someone who never goes in. I have just as much fun whether im hitting jumps and rails all day or riding pow/ dropping cliffs. I came from the east where i rode a lot of park and now im out west, so i ride park whenever there isnt a big dump and then pow when its deep (or weekends when the mountains get crowded). either way i love it.
 
the hill i ski on is 400 feet tall and we usually get around 50 inches of snow a year. as you can probably guess, not a whole lot of chances to ski trees/bumps/powder.
i do when i can though, like when i go out west, i still think skiing park is more fun just because there is a lot more you can learn
but whatever is fun for you, different people enjoy different things.
 
what people have been saying, i'm from the east coast and i don't have access to a lot of powder. but when i can get some, of course i ski it a lot. and yes skiing moguls or even just goofing off on groomers is really fun. obviously it would be great if we could ski waist deep pow every other day, but we can't and east coasters make do

I hate stupid threads like this where some guy comes on and says "dont just ski park ski everywhere" "your blinded". Dont tell people how to ski! Thats not what skiing is about. skiing is about doing it your way, and how you want, its about fun. Seems to me your just a hater my friend. GTFO

because we all have access to mountains that receive more than a few inches of snow at a time and can ride at places that are raking in enough money to open up a new tree run (an expansion from their previous 3) to cater to the minority of skiiers that would actuially utilize it
