yeah...i got the the DC Mtn. Lab camo 'fit. (call me a sellout, but i boarded for 9 yrs), it's super ill. i was there @ 9 and the trannies were'nt worn out till like 9:45. it was fun while it lasted.
 
if skiers arent going to support ski companies then how is our industry going to grow to be the size of the snowboard industry
 
^I really dont wnat the sport as big as boarding. then people would be just like boarders, tons of people doing it and few with any skills. i dont want that at all. buying shit for another company does not hurt the skiing industry any way. ski companies need to sell what the customer wants, so if its sick boarding gear, they need to make thier stuff like boarding gear.
 
Do you really want it to? I mean it would be great for companys to have a shitload of money and all but in my mind its still a niche sport and its pretty cool that way.
 
am i the only one that thinks eventually the dominant ski and snowboard companies will become one? Both industries are becoming merged in my opinion.
 
^ the way it should be. economics will always take care of it self. if a company is strugling there is a reason for that. So they need to do the changing not the customer.
 
you totaly contricdict yourself by saying you dont want skiing to be like snowboarding, however you want to support snowboard companies and look like snowboarders when your skiing

everyone has to start somewhere. i much rather get a friend who has never skied or snowboarded to get on skis even if they do suck and just be stoked on freeskiing... you make skiing seem so elite like only certain people who meet your skiil level are worthy... thats a snobby attitude to me

why not, thats crazy.... do you ever get tierd of people associating skiing with racing and gapers, do you ever want to see the skiing x games on at good times and played more than once, i could go on and on....wow... i really didnt think people thought like that. so i guess there IS a reason why there are only MAYBE 5 pro skiers who can make a comfortable living..... as oppposed to atleast 50 snowboarders

however if skiers dont support ski companies who do make sick outerwear (for example siver cartel), it leaves investors and people who want to start skiing companies adamant about doing so because if all kids are going to do is buy burton, volcom, and qiucksilver clothes then why should they

oh and to the kid that said snowboarding and skiing are merging into one sport... maybe in the future but untill companies like burton actually makes skis and sponsers skiers, we are certainly seperate. We are especially seperate in the public eye....weve come a long way but the ski industry isnt the same as the snowboard industry
 
dood, my point is with todays economics combined with the trends both skiing and boarding are going, its inevitable that companies from both industries will eventually start buying eachother and merging for one reason and one reason only......market share.

We like the same outerwear as boarders, we rock the same goggles as boarders, and helmets.....and ski socks and long underwear for that matter. That all said, eventually a company will wise up and start making both skis and snowboards under one label.....again, all about market share.

Think if burton made skis, now they would be able to market there outerwear more heavily to skiers and boarders alike, plus profit on all the twins being sold under their name as well.

Its economics 101, it will eventually happen.

Well said, but it is kinda nice that most skiers are diehards. Any kid from the bay can dive to boreal and rent a snowboard, try one box and call himself a snowboarder. Skiing takes a bit more commitment. Its not like you can rent twin tips from the mountain rental shop. If one calls themselves a skier, than they usually have enough passion for the sport to buy there own gear and become a better skier. Thats special.

dood, why would i support a company that makes an inferior product, just because they are a "ski" company. that is like a fascist, socialist, communist idea. i am a redneck capitalist, i buy what i want to and what i think will benefit me the best.
 
you cant even say orage makes "inferior" clothes. they make some of the dopest shit around and ill continue to support em as long as they do. i dont just wear orage becasue they are a ski company, they also make sweet outerwear and im willin to pay a lil extra (not extra compared to say burton) to support a core company. but i have no problem with people wearing snowboarding stuff because they make cool stuff too. rep what you like and who cares
 
^yeah exactly because a jacket and pants this year from the Master's line only costs what like SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! An entire burton fit with the same waterproofing costs half that. I'd love to buy orage, but seriously, no one can afford that.
 
thats why you dont buy new stuff every year. but i guess youre right about it being more expensive...but they still make some good stuff. because they are smaller they have to price it higher cause the volume sold is much lower. just tryin to help a cause and since christmas comes for me...thank god im still in high school. money isnt a huge issue for me but i can see where the college kids are comin from. ill prolly be that way next year so...
 
I know every one yas to start some where and do encourage people to ski. But I dont like how boarding has just become the thing to do, just because every one else does.

I still want the sport to grow, just not to what boarding is now.

There is really only a couple of reasons a skier chooses board gear over ski gear, because they like it better(or atleast think it makes their inamge look better), quality and probably most importantly cost. If skiers aren't buying ski gear, it is the manufactures job to make either a better product, or make people want thier product.
 
^wow, this thread escaladed quickly, i mean that got out of hand. anyways boreal looked like the masses of people were having an orgy of a time on that single strip of skiing area.

Well, Anon and R.E.D are sub-companies of Burton( if you go to burton.com they are right in the center of the page....TJ and michelle are all over ski time and freeskier with anon and R.E.D ads). They sponsor both snowboarders and skiers...so yes, the companies are coming together....slowly.

On a side note, i dont want skiing to be like snowboarding. Skiing should be skiing and not "the new snowboarding".
