it's complete bullshit, but it's flattering, it's non-threatening, it's sweet, and it shows that you want to do something for someone. you've reminded her that she wont be having a great night when she's alone and may as well have a nice time with you, you've expressed your seriousness by mentioning a reservation, and you've put the ball in her court, giving her the option to either get treated like all girls want to be treated or be lonely.

but really, it may or may not be true. sure, you might want to get out there and have an awesome time with a chick. maybe you really want to show someone a good time and buy her a nice dinner. but you cant just say that. it comes across as desperate. you have to bullshit your way to an opportunity. not into a woman's heart, but for that chance. bullshit meaning random flattery and talk her up like crazy. make her feel special and THEN once you're out, you can be real.
bottom line, girls like a guy who is non-threatening, sweet, courteous, and can put some effort into her. go out of your way to show someone (anyone) that, and you're golden. especially on a day like today where every girl WANTS that.
