the evo is on that list because its really one of the best deals as far as performance. it may not have european build quality, but the fact that it can beat some super cars around a track, in stock or slightly modded form, while having 4 doors and awd, makes it an amazing car.
and i think the miata definatly deserves top 5, if not higher, you have to drive one to know what i mean, its just a pure sports car in every way. miata's can beat 100,000 dollar sports cars around a track with just some nice tires and a roll cage. honestly go to a open track day and watch how many cars the miata destroy's you would be very suprised. they get outrun on straights, but as soon as a corner comes up they can brake later and take the corner with so much more speed that corvettes and vipers cant catch up before the next corner. and the fact that its a 10,000 "chick" car just makes it that much more cool when you beat badass 500hp expensive sports cars.
and a e30 m3 is another car you definatly have to drive to know what im talking about, it may not be reliable, but hardly any sports cars are reliable, i really dont think reliability can judge how good of a sports car something is. anyway, when people say its one of the best handling cars ever they are right, you can take corners at 80 tires squeeling and the car will remain perfectly fliat. its an amazing feeling, its like driving a shifter kart around corners. the only thing it lacks is a good engine, people are always so loyal to the s14, but imo its just a underpowered extremely unreliable engine with a somewhat good powerband.

and as for a f355, ive always associated v8's and ferrari's together more than with v12's i dont know why, it just seems like all their good cars have v8's. and why i picked the f355? mostly because everything ive heard about it, is how well balanced it is, how well it corners, and how great it feels. this one could be changed though, i just put it in my list cause it seems like the best handling ferrari.

there are much better cheap sports cars then the miata, for instance the e-type jag was cheap in the 60's (cheap for a sports car) its much much much better looking better handling and it sounds better.

the trimph tr5 is better

lotus super 7 is better

lotus elise is way better

vauxhall vx220 is better (or Saturn view)

the miata is a good car but not one of the best cars ever

as far as the m3, the m5 is a better car and is more of a classic

the evo is a good car but not in the top 5, the audi quatro would be a better condender for the top 5, or the nissan skyline

jag e type?? its a great car but it cant handle like a miata, the triumph and super 7, probably handle similar toa miata, but not better, and the triumph is extremely slow, their 0-60 time is around like 16 seconds, its just too slow to be considered one of the best. you dont need it to acclerate like crazy, but having decent power when you need it is important.
the elise/exige is amazing, and i probably should have listed it in my top 5, but compared to a miata its way more expensive, the miata is pretty much the only car you can buy for 10 grand and go to a track and beat 100,000 dollar sports cars. the miata gets to be in the top 5 because its so damn cheap and you get soooo much for its cost. again you have to drive a miata, or atleast see one on a track to know what i mean.

i dont know if any M is more of a classic than the e30 m3, not e36, e30, it is pretty much what started the whole M series, its the original M. they had a couple m's before that, but they didnt perform well enough to really be that significant. the e30 m3 won more races than any other car in history. and its considered the best handling bmw ever built, and one of the best handling cars ever. really you cant have a list of the best sports cars and not have the e30 m3 in it.

and yes i agree that the original audi ur and sport quattro could easily take the place of the evo, it did start awd sports cars, and made rallying what it is today. its tough but i chose the evo because really, it handles better, acclerates faster, and brakes better stock. its hard for americans to realize how great evo's are, because most of them are owned by 25 year old kids who only buy them to go fast in a straight line. but if you go to europe the evo gets the credit it actually deserves.
and the skyline is a great performing car, but there are too many electronics and driver aids doing half the driving for you. for a true sports car you have to leave all the driving or atleast most to the driver. its a great car, but not much of a true sports car.

a miata is not one of the best sports cars ever, a good car yes, but not the best. inorder for a car to make any "best" list it must be 1. fast 2 .good looking 3. good handling 4. a classic 5. rare (not that nesacery but it helps) the miata is only good handaling

you say that the skyline has to many computers, yet you list the evo as one of the best. also the thing with the sky line is that you still feel conected to the car.

1. if you consider fast to mean how it performs all around then yes, its very very fast compared to most other sports cars, its faster around a track than tons of sports cars, so yes id say its fast. 2. good looking? id say the miata looks pretty darn good, but i dont know how important that is though. 3. obviously it handles very well. 4, its not old enough to be a real classic, but its getting there. and still i dont think it being a classic has much to do with how good of a sports car it is. sports car and classic can be completely different things. and 5. its definatly not rare, but the amount of cars made has nothing to do with how much of a sports car it is.
in terms of pure peformance and just pure sports car, it just has a bad reputation of being a hair dressers car.
the evo hardly has many driver aids. almost all the computer stuff is with the awd system, its not totally mechanical, it relies on computers to tell it where to send the power. it doesnt really help the driver, it is just another way of doing an awd system.
the skyline actually has alot of driver aids doing a ton of the work.
as for being connected to the car, well ive never driven a skyline but i bet thats true, though with an evo you feel very connected.

i fully agree...as far as a classic bmw, this one represents the company perhaps better than any of the other cars. high strung 3.2 liter 6 cylinder that really connected the driver to the road, almost frighteningly so.

drive one and youll understand. the harshness of a bare-bones late 80s german sports car has never been so evident (in a good way), except perhaps the 930-era 911 turbo.

scary, rickety, intense...and absolutely amazing pieces of machinery. german engineering at its finest.

no, the evo is like a super computer, ever thing on it has computers.

the miata is not fast, quick yes but not fast like a 911, any lotus, gtr, r8, corvette(i don't like saying that), arielle atom (if were talking cheap handling the atom is much better), even the toyota mr2 is a faster car.

I'll give you that, in low light if I was drunk and only had one eye open and only saw the headlights I might mistake that for a carmengia.

No probably still wouldn't.

I'm no prosche expert or anything but a VW? seriously? I just think that porsche has sexy lines like a curvey lady.

Saw a Aston Martin Vantage on the Killington access road the other day, and it was by far the sexiest car I have seen. It was that gun metal color, and the headlights and taillights on that car are unreal.

the e30 m3's were high revving 4's, which was probably the only bad thing about the car, it is so underpowered for what it could be, it still is quick, but thats why you see so many with the e36 m3 engine swap, cause the s50 or euro s50b32 is really a much better engine with a much better powerband. but yeah if you are ever lucky enough to drive an e30 m3 you will understand why its such a good sports car, its just so much fun!

The beauty of the car though was that you didn't need power to rip around a course with it. It's near perfect weight distribution and geometry is what made the car as great as it was.

It rewarded the truly great drivers and punished mediocre ones.

okay v8 ferrarris are nowadays so much more renouned than the v12s its not even funny, dino's arent considered real ferraris by many cause they were peices of shit, not just because of the v8s. Things have changed today, the 355s and f430s are some of the most well balanced cars of all time, and by comparison put 599s and especially 612s to shame. Everything changed when ferrari came out with the F50, which with a v12 was supposed to be an improvement on the F40s twin turbo V8, but wasnt.

And to the list i add:

nissan s15 sylvia

japan has gotten lots of rep on the fast cars with the evo, but for truly good looking this is one of japans best contributions

Drop the indy-car wing off the back of that car and replace it with something more subtle that actually follows the lines of the car, and I'd give you some more credit.

However, this thread is about incredible LOOKING car of all time, and that Nissan does not even come close to touching the list.

looking at them side by side they look different, but i saw that one at a quick glance, and they weresimila sizes both verts, and the one i saw was like the same color as the porsche.

yeah it is an amazing car, i drove one awhile ago and it really was about the best handling car i could imagine, and it was completely stock, you could be taking 80 mph corners at the limit and the car would be completely flat, no body roll at all, and it would just grip like crazy. ive driven evo's and an sti, and they cant even compare, well maybe the evo in some ways.
but i still think with a little more power, like 240hp or so it would be pretty much totally perfect in every way.

i dont like the black panels on the back, i think that kind of ruins it... audi should have just kept it all the same color, i think that would have looked a lot better

nope, 4th generation American and my roots are from Poland and Czechoslovakia mainly, so I am not a panzy frenchman. but why would you assume that because I love Avants that I am french?

man, sans the wing i think that nissan is pretty high up there, im sorry but i dont find e types and all those old cars very attractive, and i cant see why anyone would ever want to drive a car that looks like a giant cock

if you are going to dispute something please let it be that soccer mom touting audi avant somebody posted, i like wagons for their practicallity, but anything that is used to lug kids gear to a little league game cannot be considered an all time looker

also, people stop posting pickups, if you want to make a thread entitled "most badass looking pickup" to declare the shade of red on your neck to the rest of ns, then thats fine, but theyre not cars and theyre definitely not beautiful

lastly, as much as i love that gt-r, it would definitely win for most functional shape, but with regards to best looking it is a bit awkward and i find the wheel arches too small, that being said its still one of my favorite cars on the road today

pretty much any audi, aside from early "a" models esp the quattro coupe

the 98+ a6 changed the way cars looked forever

also the new m5/m6 is NASTYYYYYYYYYYYY
