The best BC

Where is the best local Backcountry?

I've been to Diamond head, but that's pretty far, and has a long skin up.

Any of the locals decent? Any of those be decent right now?

Any have relatively short skin-ups to the good terrain?

Thanks

Rainbow is alright. The last few years you could score a cheap (80 bucks or so) heli drop almost to the top and spend the day skinning around. Theres a few cool bowls and chutes up there.

That's pretty cool, dirt cheap for heli access.

But I meant closer to vancouver, not whistler.

Is cypress good? Seymour?

Seymour's not all that amazing for just skiing though, better for build spots. It's a fair hike up to the BC when the chairs aren't going, also (45-60). Still, yes, it is the only local with any BC to speak of.

Cool, thanks. Cypress is a no-go? I can go the extra distance to Cypress, that doesn't matter to me.

Mt Hollyburn, which I think is the cross country area at Cypress, supposedly has the best backcountry on the shore, I'm sure there's tons of stuff to do between there and the lions. Seymour backcountry is sketch, have heard it from more than one experienced person, people have gotten lost and a UBC grad student died in an avalanche a few years back. Go with someone who knows the terrain. Also, there are a bunch of books at MEC with lots of touring info for the coast mountains, very well explained (don't remember the author but check on their website).

Yeah, there seems to be some mad sketch stuff out here, so I guess I should get to know the areas before I fall off some two hundred foot cliff...

I live out of good sight off the hills, how are they looking right now?

Enough snow for a good little hike, or is the snow level pretty high?

Thanks.

yea dude i dunno about trying to find BC on the locals.... every year at least one person dies on cypress because they fall off cliffs they dont see coming and from what ive seen of seymour there is nothing worth the hike up unless your gonna build.

Yup. Don't worry, I'm not going to go anywhere unless I know the terrain super well. I hear the death stories, too.
