The answer to "what binding"

Looking for a binding to pair with my new Line Magnum Opus skis. The skis will be purely intended for powder skiing as I have separate skis for my everyday skiing (rarely any powder in Southern Finland^^).

I have never done touring but with this pair of skis I intend to, although I think it will be mainly short tours venturing a bit away from lifts. I probably will also do at some point day touring but I don't think I will be doing anything extreme or multiday tours.

With a background in park skiing, I have a playful approach to skiing where I try to take advantage of natural features (cliffs, natural jumps etc.), land switch, do presses/butters (or at least try to).

Which bindings would be most suitable to pair with my skis? Of course something like Atomic Tracker/Salomon Guardian 13/16, Marker's Baron or Duke would be quite safe bet, but then I think also Dynafit Beast 14/16 or Marker Kingpin 13 could be options.

With my current skis (Line SFB) I use Marker Jester with DIN set at 10.

I am 5'9(180cm) and weigh around 175lbs(80kg).

I'm getting Jessie 100s and I wanted to get pivots but the brakes are either 95 or 115. I've heard 115 is too big and I've heard that it would work but I don't really know. I've also been told that I can bend the 95s but that sounds like a bad idea, i dont know. Can someone help my clueless self?

They will likely need a tweak, but I'm talking about an adjustment that you could achieve with your bare hands, not like a "dismantle the brake and bend it in a vice" kind of bend.

If you think about it, a 95mm brake on a 100mm ski is going to be maybe 3mm a side, that's like the size of a grain of rice. Since binding brakes (especially FKS/Pivots) aren't built to close tolerances you can usually get that much space just by making use of the inherent slop in the assembly. I did the maths (because I'm a nerd) and it's a change of roughly 0.6mm at the pivot point of the brake.

I'm 6', 165lbs, advanced skier. Just picked up the 2015 Sir Francis Bacons for groomers, pow, and any off-piste shenanigans, and also the occasional park usage. (I've got freestyle skis for that) so I am shopping around for bindings. I've heard good things about Marker Griffons, but also word that Marker quality has been in decline. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks in advance.

Marker quality in decline? The current Griffon is the best they have ever been.

They will be fine for you.

Hi guys, hope you can help me out.

I just got new K2 Shreditor 102's as an all mountain ski that I will also be taking in the park occasionaly and am having trouble deciding which binding to put on.

I have 2 options:

I have new marker griffons with 110mm brakes that will fit fine and have a jig for. Replacing brakes is also no problem at all.

2nd option is to put on some brand new rossi FKS 140 with the 115mm xxl brakes on.

I can get these for free and then sell my griffons, which sounds perfect as everyone thinks fks are much better and they are free.

I am however worried that the 115mm brakes will be a bit too wide, especially when landing switch on jumps. Do you think I can bend them in a little and not have troubles? I allready placed the heelpiece over the ski and it sort of looked allright, but I'm still a little worried as I dont feel like blowing out my brakes on an FKS...

I will be mounting them on thursday, so I need to make a decision.

I appreciate your help! Thanks

I have the Line Future Spin 2016 skis and i was wondering if the Marker Griffon 2016 bindings would fit them. The ski waist size is 86mm and the bindings size is 90mm.

Hey, I am like 150 5'10 and have a pair of Icelantic Da'nollies. I would say I am a decently aggressive and good skier and I ski a lot of ice and hardpack since I am from Wisconsin. I am just getting into park so I wont be doing anything to crazy, but I am planning on doing a good amount of park.

I was thinking either Salomon Sth2 13s, Marker Griffon, or maybe rossi Axial 3s. Any suggestions? I was planning on going Salomon, but then someone told me that their swing weight is more than the Markers and suggested those.

]Ok so i weigh 145 and when i get my skis mounted i put level III+ and the highest the shop will put them is at like 6 or 7. i usually turn them up to 10 should i do that or not?

There's no way the shop will set them at anything other than the recommended settings. You know where your bindings should be but when I get new bindings I go a bit low and then turn up 1/2 if I feel they're coming out too easily.

I might throw in that staying on top of your skis allows you to turn the dins down a bit. When I was younger I was at 15/15, now at 10/10 even at 220 lbs. I blow out when I should. I think the FKS allows me to run a lower DIN too.

This may sound like a stupid question, but still going to ask it anyway: don't need advice on DIN setting, but do want to know if there are better brands/ models of bindings that are more specifically designed for "non flat" skis. / with rocker. And does camber on a ski determine anything regarding bindings specification or performance? Last season I picked up some k2 shreditors 191cm /102mm underfoot. Haven't mounted them yet, and really want to get the best suited bindings for these skis. However- I am 6 ft 3, 195 lbs aggressive. If anyone has this ski, or knows I'd be stoked for answers. pk

May have been confused regarding "flat ski" when it comes to bindings and mounting...a tech would probably have a better idea of what I'm getting at here. I think I'm going with a pair of Look's for now (Look px 12 racing.)

are look pivot 12's good for a 120 pound skier who does mostly park? Im level 2-3 I guess, when I'm doing all mountain it's just blacks and some double blacks. My din on my tyrolia attacks are at like 7.

I'd think you should be fine, I have pivots too and I'm 120 pounds but I ski big mtn comps so you din might be a bit lower but I ski at a 7 so I see no problem with the pivots for you. One thing though is that they might feel a little heavy at the start. Good luck with finding the right binding!

So I have a problem, I bought afterbangs this season because they were on a really good deal so I just slapped my old squires on them thinking I'd be set, however I have been going through brakes like crazy and they are breaking for no apparent reason so I want new bindings.

I want my bindings center mounted but if I buy fks/pivot I can't get them center mounted (previous holes in the way), so I've been considering Griffons because I can just put them in the same holes but I'm hesitant to buy anything else marker because of my previous experiences with them...

So if I get the fks/pivots and mount them back a ways will I actually notice? Or would I be fine with the griffons?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, sorry for the long read.

Hey

I need to get a new pair of fks to remount skis that are already drilled for those bindings. I can get a fks 12 for really cheap. My only concern is about the dins, I run my other pivots / fks at 10. I don't plan to run it higher than that. Is that ok to go 10 on a 12 binding or the spring might be a bit to tighened ?

Thanks

You'll be fine, but if you think you might put your din higher than 10 you might want to look at the pivot 14s or even the 18s.

All brakes break easily if you really wanted a new binding and you have a problem with breaking brakes you should go with the griffons because the pivots are a mess with breaking brakes

I hope this helps.

Will an FKS 95mm brake fit a 106 mm ski?

It could but I would suggest to bend the fks 115 brakes smaller because the brakes on the fks 95 would become a lot shorter and that may affect their ability slow the skis down.\

Hope this helps!

I just bought a pair of 2015 on3p kartel 98s, Im 5'11 and about 150 pounds. I was thinking FKS 120 would be good. Any thoughts?

I'm not exactly the binding expert so you may want to wait for a more educated user to respond, but you should be fine.

I'm about 130 5'9 and i ride 120.

I snapped my new 110mm Marker Griffon brakes when I landed nose heavy on a switch 3 on my chronics. Put the 90mm back on and they were fine. Personally I'd go with the FKS's but it's personal preference really

I'm 5'7 and about 130 lbs. I have 166cm Revision talismans and I'll be doing mostly park skiing. Any ideas on some bindings that'll be good for that?

Also, my old bindings are Marker Eps 10.0s and they're set to about 8. Would I be better off using those or buying new ones?

I've read through the thread a bit but still confused on which size bindings to get. I'm buying Line Sick Day 102's on Friday. I'm considering the Marker Griffons. I'm 5'11, 180 and skier pretty aggressively, no park skiing though. Just going fast, hardly any landings. My question is, I get the 110mm size, right? Thanks in advance

Yeah sorry for the really short answer, for example the k2 shreditor 102's where sold together with griffons with 110mm brakes last season, so your ski's should be fine with the same size brakes.

Don't real want to spend the 180 on fks. Are the attack bindings that most companies make decent? What would you recommend for a cheaper durable all mountain bindings, pow and park. 170lbs. Thanks

Attacks are good but for bang for your buck the fks 120s are some of the best u can get.

Attacks are great but for bang for your buck the fks 120 and 140 are some of the best out there. There should be sales online somewhere too for the fks.

even for 170 lbs? sorry to bring up old-ish questions just wondering

It really depends on where you ski and how you ski because there are two options the Attack 13 and the Attack 16 so no matter what you will still be able to use that model.

looking for some advice. I am planning on getting a pair of moment PB & J's and Im trying to decide which binding to get. I am between the look pivot 12 and the look SPX12. I like the idea of the pivots because they seem like the best binding for saving your knees, but they only come in brake sizes of 95 and 115... and the PB&J waist is 101, would the 95 be big enough?? or would the 115 be too big?? The plus side to the SPX is that I currently ride them and like them, and they come in a 100 brake size which to my knowledge should be ideal for the PB&J waist. Please give me some feedback! looking to take advantage of some black friday deals on the bindings and skis! THANKS

Hey Guys need some tech knowledge!!

So i have a pair of sir Francis bacon from 2014 that i love!! i have a pair of salomon guardians on them. I used to do alot of back country and they were great!! but i moved away from the mtn :( so i have an old pair of salomon sth binds that are on an older pair of skis .

So my question is could i switch the binding Guardians and the STH WITHOUT drilling new holes??

I am not opposed to drilling but i rather not because i dont want to ruin the play in my SFBs!!

Please let me know

The 95's should be pretty easy to bend out to fit, 115 would probably be fine but it's pretty close to being too big

Hey guys looking for some advise. I got myself a pair of armada TST's and can't decide if i should put touring bindings on them. I ski the west (utah and alaska) usually ski mostly in bound and side country. I plan on having these skis for a few years and its the only set of skis that ill have. Is there a lot of touring in the side country or is it ok to just carry gear? Is it ok to mount touring bindings on a everyday ski thats mostly used inbounds? Thanks for any help everyone!

Just ordered the Candid 2.0.. the ski has a 102 waist. Could a 95 be stretched to fit these as well, or would you recommend a 115?
