The answer to "what binding"

OKay thanks! But one more question, do you think that the STH 14 driver with 100mm brakes will work on the atomic punx? because the ones with the 100mm brakes are the only ones that are in stock. Will the brakes "pop" out on the side of the ski or something like that?

Thanks!

How do the marker squire's compare to the Look PX12's? I'm skiing 90% park and they'll be mounted on Line Chronics. Is it worth it to pay the extra for the STH14 Drivers? I'm 5'11" 145lbs.

looking for some advice on mounting my new set up

money isnt really a factor at the moment but keeping costs down would be great.

im 6"2 170lbs, probably an intermediate - low advanced skiier. although i will be spending 100 consecutive days on snow starting jan. (before its just been week trips with family once a year - australia... sigh.)

i have 179 k2 iron maidens (recoils) for groomers/park

and then 191 on3p caylors for pow/everything else.

dont need a touring binding for the caylors

was going to get some binding freedom inserts and just swap out the bindings, but, im leaving aus to go to whistler in 10 days so probs dont have enough time to get them shipped over. so im looking at two pairs.

Yo, i getting some Joystick These soon and dont know what binders to put on. I am 5-10 and about 135 lb. this will be mainly a park ski so i was thinking rossi axial/look px which ever color i like better. does this sound like a good setup? they are 92 under foot. would 100 wide brake be to much over hang or should i get a 90 and bend them

Whoever told you that is tripping... the Fks180 and 155 solid toe is one of the few bindings with a reasonably effective vertical (kinda backwards) release. The whole toe can pivot upwards allowing your boot to come out the top. Takes a heap of force though.

I can get a pretty good deal on some Liberty 515 Freestyle bindings, but I can't find any reviews or information about them. From my understanding they are in actuality manufactured by Tyrolia and simply reskinned Tyrolia bindings. Does any know or can anyone find out a) which model these actually are and b) are they any good?

they look like a reabranded tyrolia peak 15. they are a super solid binding. most of the armada team rides the peak 15 or the peak 18

Hey all, looking for binding suggestions for my Lizzies.

Have a choice between Atomic FFG 12's, Look/Rossi px12's, or Griffons.

Where should i mount them and with which binding? Im 5'8 140 soaking wet and will be riding these at Brighton, Utah, for mostly powder and a small share of park.

I've heard Marker has some problems with Full tilts if they are worn a little bit? My Full tilts are pretty old so I've been leaning more toward the Look/Rossi's.

Thanks.

is anyone in here not a type III skier? heard hilarious stories of a buddy who works at a rental and literally noone ever says I or II, regardless of anything.

hey everybody, i could use some advice.

im 140 lbs, age 15, and live in ohio, so only park and groomers. im no tom wallisch, but I'm decent. a lot more jumps than rails

im getting filthy riches for next season, and dont know what binding to get. ive narrowed it down to FKS 14's, pivot 14's, and sth 14 drivers.

i know the rossi and look bindings are exactly the same, i just haven't decided. the sth's are a lot cheaper on evo, but how do the compare to the looks/rossi's? are they as durable? would it be a better idea to pay more money for the looks/rossi's? will i really even notice?

thanks for the help, and tell me if i need to include more info

i am 190 lbs and dont even ride a 14. i hit 60 footer regularly and have my setting at around 8 or so. easily enough with a 12 if you ask me. but its a safety issue so dont take my word for it 100%

Not sure if its a repost but I'm looking for some touring bindings what's everyone's favorites and recommendations I'm pretty light but a really aggressive skier, 140 lbs

Thanks

Yo, lots of respect to rozboon and .RYAN66$ for helping ppl out throughout this whole thread, much love. You guys have a wealth of knowledge and experience no doubt.

After reading through the thread I've decided to spring for some FKS 140's or 155's/Look P15 because i'm tired of my bindings falling apart. i need something i can really punish on rails/jmps. What do you think i should spring for? III, park skier, 135lbs, and 5'11".

Hey, thanks, it's nice to be appreciated every now and then.

Look P15 is rare as hen's teeth. FKS155 much more common.

If you want something you can hammer on, that will go the distance, FKS155. A lot more metal in the construction than the 140 and the one-piece toe is bomber awesomeness in binding form.

They start at 6 DIN which I'm loosely assuming you're above and will still be awesome bindings when you fill out a little (at 5' 11 / 135lb I figure you're gonna bulk out at least a bit) and want more DIN.

Ignor this kid.

This is true.

If the binding goes to 16, dont go above 15. It leaves no room for the spring to flex, which it needs to do in order to release properly.

Period.

With due respect, with modern bindings this isn't true... you're implying that the spring would bind (the coils would close leaving no further room for compression) at the maximum DIN. In which case the binding would not release at all as the mechanism wouldn't be able to open, effectively giving you infinite DIN. But if this were the case, you wouldn't be able to clip into the heelpiece in the first place - the closed spring would jam the binding's action.

It's pretty easy to see this isn't true on Marker's Royal bindings where the spring is exposed in the heel - wind the DIN all the way up and watch it when you open and close the heel, the spring doesn't come close to closing completely.

The behaviour of springs in a binding (and in general) is actually a pretty complicated subject.

Double post I know, but I'd like to point out that you're calling out a post made almost 4 years ago by someone who has been a member of this site more than 12 years, and calling them "kid". Just saying and all that.

Is it worth the extra price to get the Marker Griffon/Jester/Squire Schizo as opposed to the standard bindings? Are they that useful and funcional

If you are new to park and youre not worried about durability, then the Squires are the perfect bindings. They are great for an entry-level park skier and are super lightweight. Definitely go for those.

I have a pair of the fks140's from 11/12 season.. was very pleased.. planning on buying this years set. Anyone tried it and what ya think? Same animal as the fks140 from 2011 or different design this year?

Uber aggressive... skill slowly matching.... (sloowwly:) = (interm/advance)I try to shreddar every inch of the mountain from pow n groomers to parking lots n fat snowboardin groms.

5'7'' - 150 lbs (after dinner)

Line Blend 2013 sticks....

Any opinion's would be sound,

cheers mates

STH14/FFG 14 Team

FKS140/Pivot 14

Marker Griffon or Jester

Axial2 140/PX14

Tyrolia Peak 15 or one of its many clones (HEAD Mojo, Elan something or other, 4FRNT)

Cheers for replying so fast mate, thats most triumphant indeed.I've been leaning towards the Pivot 14, I rag doll a lot so the turntable heel has kinda gotta me hooked.

Going to hafta wait for a sale though... or maybe go with a cheaper Griffon (always on sale too)

Cheers again rozboon, I appreciate your knowledge mate

Stupid question/'s...

Does the Look Pivot 14 have a fixed heel?

What if I change boots, and the new one's are different size...

can you adjust the size, or will I have to re-mount the bindings??

Cheers again mates

it's not adjustable. you'll need to remount if the new boot is larger/smaller than the size of the boot that was used to mount the bindings.

Assuming when they were mounted the forward-pressure arms were set in the middle of the range you get approximately 7-8mm of useful adjustment in terms of boot sole length change. If they were cranked all the way down you'll get maybe 12-15mm which is a useful range.

Off the top of my head the manual says 10mm each way but because the arms are angled you only get 8mm of so effectively.

Also worth mentioning that I personally don't like the way the binding behaves when the arms are all the way out, the bindings become a little bit sloppy torsionally and your tibia starts to move behind the axis of rotation for the heelpiece which defeats the purpose of the turntable...

First post in a long time, but i need some serious binding help!

First you in college out here in Montana, and coming from Maine i needed a whole new setup. Looking to pick up a pair of Armada JJs for the deep stuff and dont know what kind of binding to slap on there. Obviously a pair of FKS would be nice but im on a bit of a budget and would love to save some money if possible.

Im 6'1 163 lbs, and would consider myself an aggressive skier. Looking to get into the pow game after skiing east coast park for years. usually ride some markers at about 7 or 8

Is there any tips for cheaper but super safe and reliable bindings? looking for opinions on..

STH 14, rossi axial 12, mojos, or perhaps a Tyrolia. I imagine im probably safe with a 12 din but obviously 14 would have a more solid construction in most cases if the price is good. Thanks!

STH 16 with 130mm brake for Moment Night Trains? Evo is having a sale on a bunch of bindings. im 6 foot 175ish.

Im torn between the marker squires and salomon z10s for my new skis. Im 5'6 and 130 lbs... The salomons are slightly less expensive but is there a huge difference between the two? I really dont need a binding with a high DIN and would prefer something pretty light.

Dynafit is the best freeride binding out there. The FT or the Beast and you got the lightest and the best. Oh wait, but if you don't use AT boots they really aren't for you.

For a ski with a 98 waist, would I be better off with 90mm or 110 mm brakes? Specifically griffons on Rossi experience 98. Thanks.

PIVOT/FKS all day long.PROS

best binding on market

low profile/ no rails, lets ski flex more naturally,

25mm elastic travel.

CONS

you thought skiing was cheap

If you are getting new boots, might need a remount

pain in the ass to get in and out of

jibbers bitch about the brake breaking, this replacement is way more expensive than say the griffin

PERFECT FOR

nasty mcdope shredder who doesn't jib or trash skis

I have a really stupid question. If a ski has camber underfoot will it affect binding mounting? In other words will some bindings be unmountable due to the camber or will every binding be fine?

Need some bindings on my ON3P FR's

Been looking at both the FKS & Jesters

I'm around 71kg and ski park.

What bindings would you recommend? any difference in weight also?

Cheers

FKS 14. FKS will probably be heavier but they are bomber bindings that should last longer than the Jesters. Plus the elastic travel makes the binding more knee-friendly.

I have an FKS adjustment question.

On my pair of FKS 120, one binding seems to have to have the forward pressure bars much further forward than the other in order to get the same crude forward pressure testing results (Snaps back up when the binding is half engaged, and has little side to side movement in the turntable.)

Anyone ever have this before?

I am a total novice. Can I ask a dumb ass question? What is the difference between a ski lift pass and a ski pass? Are they both the same?

Why should you not be within 2 of the max?? I mean why would that even be an option then? I mean if somebody who needs a din of, let's say 9.5 and skis that on a 10 din binding, the binding should work properly, right? If he gets hurt and it turns out that the binding did not function properly even though it was adjusted properly, the binding company could be sued right?
