The answer to "what binding"

So I just ordered some Coreupt Candide Yard 2010's as my park skis. I already have a pow ski. I am looking for a binding for the park skis. I have been looking at the Head Mojo 11, and 12. Is the mojo 11 good enough, or should I pay the extra to get the 12? I am 15, 5'11'', and have a size 13 foot in US. I guess thats a 30.5 in Europe. I am 145 lbs, bet will be growing a bit more. Any other good priced recomendations?

Personaly I would go with the 12 din. If you set at 9 your 3 away for room to grow. if you get 11 din and set at 9 your 2 away freom max. Thats just me though. I like being away from max. i always get 16 diners and set a 10.5. Im 220 though same size boot. You should be at 8 but if your landing hard and athletic you could go 9 and still twist out of it and not hurt your knee. Thats the big think for me. I only set were if I do wipe out I have enough streangth in my legs to come out of the ski without injury. Every ones differnt in that respect. Last thing I want though is to shed some heat and have the ski come off on a steep icy pitch also! Use a din chart. There pretty good. They also compensate for ability ,sole length, hight ,weight, etc... hears a good one http://www.dinsetting.com/

should i move my din to closer to 9 or 10 since im in the park most of the time. when i got my bindings mounted i put level 2 skier but after reading this mayb im a level 3 any ideas? also i weight about 145

well my brake broke and i skis the rest of the day with it and i was on a corrugated pipe and it came off and idk if my brake being broke had anything to do with that but that is the only time i can think of

Great guide and weights really help. Quick question/opinion , this year I was a dumbsthit and bought a pair of squires (I'm only 100 lbs) and the brakes exploded and it took out the heel piece with it. So I need a whole new pair of bindings that won't go to shit. I've been looking at a few like the fks, px12 jib, deadbolt, sth12,14. But just wondering if anyone had recommendations, opinions, or the no-no's that I should avoid. Here is my info: 100lbs, 5'4", type III+ skier

With your weight and height, you might have a hard time finding a binding that's sufficiently burly but has a DIN that goes low enough. PX12 Jib or Griffon might be good options for you, I think they start at 4. What DIN do you ski at currently?

Eeek, in that case what on earth were you doing on Squires?

PX12 Jib and Griffon will both suit you well.

haha i dunno, i got a sick deal ($112) brand new so i got em, all my friends have them and they haven't any problems. So i thought it was a sick find. but thanks for the advice i'll definitely take it into consideration +k thanks for all your help

I just acquired a set of skis with Salomon STH 16 bindings and I'd like to set the DIN at about 7. Unfortunately, the range starts at 9. The indicator goes well below the marked 9. I can estimate where a 7 would be, based on the intervals of 9-16. Does anyone have experience with riding a binding set below the marked DIN range? Thanks

Do not do this. You are winding out the screw that holds the spring in. If you wind it too far the spring will pop out and the binding will more or less fall apart. Winding it below the lowest indication means there isn't the full thread in the part that holds it all together, at any moment the combined force of the spring + you skiing could pop the spring out which would effectively give you 0 DIN resulting in your ski coming off and potentially a massive crash.

Thanks. I figured that it probably wasn't the safest idea; someone put the marks on there for a reason. I'm just getting back into the sport and don't want to get injured, especially my knees. Looks like I'll either be doing a lot of leg exercises or swapping the bindings to a 14 din model, which does include 7 in the din range.

If You still have these things i'll gladly trade you for a like new STH 14 driver i have on my park skis which i rarely ride anymore. Im a big guy and like STH 16s. PM me

I just bought a new pair of 2011 K2 kung fujas for $399!!!!!!! I couldn't say no! I am going to buy the Line MPO's to have the best setup...all mtn and powder! What do you recommend for bindings for both?

Need more information about you, i.e. height/weight/how you ski/how scared are you of breaking your knees/what DIN do you currently run?

But for a shot in the dark, 2 bindings that are very worthy of being on either of those skis are the STH14 and FKS140/Pivot 14. Unless you need more DIN or a slightly burlier binding, in which case FKS180/Pivot 18 or STH16 or maybe the Jester are worth considering.

Atomic FFG14 Team if you're after something cheaper, it's similar to the STH14 but more plastic and crappier toepiece. FKS155 from second-hand market should be in the mix too.

Thanks!I currently ski on Rossy scratches with Rossy bindings and recently broke the brake on one of my skis at snowbird this year. I ski all over the mtn from groomers to back country powder. I like to hit lips and semi big jumps. I dont really do any tricks or spins just big air. Does this help? I wear the Nordica Supercharger boots.

How much do you weigh?

Squires are cool bindings if you're a shredding grom that weighs like 120. If you're much bigger you'll break them if you ski hard.

That's a tough one. If they're the new KF's with 107 or 105 or whatever the waist is I think you would be OK with the XXL brake. It would overhang a little but if anything you could probably nip it in slightly. The L brake would need a decent bend to fit.

Great binding, but for LESS money you can get the PX15 Jib from Evo at the moment. As long as the minimum DIN is OK for you it's a way better binding, with the Full Drive metal toe with 180 degree release.

i'm assuming this is much better because of the toe piece? i'm 6'0, about 170, right now i ski on a 7 din and i'm a good skier but new to park. it have noticed my skis releasing unnecessarily sometimes, what do you believe my din should be?

The metal 1-piece toe is arguably the best toepiece you can put on a ski these days.

I won't really venture into what your DIN should be, although I think you would be OK at 8.

alright, i'm sold. thank you very much sir. would i need to buy new brakes or would the 80 mm be fine on most park oriented skis? i'm buying these for next season because my friend gave me my current skis to start on.

any shop tech worth their salt will have no trouble bending that brake over the vast majority of park skis. my shop got a 115mm brake over my 132mm skis so a 5mm per side bend, which covers you to 90mm, shouldnt be a problem.

Traditional thinking says yes, but there's really no reason why it should be. In theory if you felt the need to you could run a different DIN on all 4 'corners'.

Disclaimer: Changing your DINs will make your legs fall off, and you'll probably die.

i weigh like 105, 5'4. skier type lll. well i have griffons (13din) on my park sticks and rossi freeskis (11 din) on my pow stick. well the griffons are at 8 and i push the heel piece forward closer to the boot so it keeps me in better. My rossis are at like 4 or something like that and some how never release and my griffons do all the time. anybody know why? ++++k

Either you ski very differently or the Griffons are setup completely wrong. Chances are if you've messed with the forward pressure, they're wrong. For the most part DIN is DIN, as in 8 DIN on a FKS180 should take the same force to release as 8 DIN on a 10-DIN Marker.

Nice guide!

I'm looking for new bindings I'm like 155lbs and 6.0 tall.

Need new ski's to, I think I will go with the Ar7

Can get the bindings in combi with those ski's for like $53.-

Anyone familiar with this binding?

I thiiiink it's a rebranded Rossi Freeski 120 that was bundled with them for a while... in which case it's a good buy for 53 dollars/euros/something. But we should really confirm that this binding is in fact the one he's talking about.

So I just picked up a pair of 182 surface green lifes and need to get some bindings. Im 6'1 and ~ 220 lbs and a leve 3 skier. I demoed some skis this winter and they set the din at 8 so im wondering if i should be getting something like the salomon sth 12 or if i should go with something with a higher max din. From reading this it sounds like based on my weight and skiing style i should be looking at something in the 14+ range. any thoughts?

At your size I'd be looking strongly into bindings with more metal in them.

The only problem is that quite a lot of them start at fairly high DINs.

Bindings I'd recommend you look at:

STH12, 14 and 16, as long as they have the Driver toe

Pivot/FKS 14 and 18

Second-hand FKS155

PX14, PX15, or their clones (SAS140, FreeSki2 140, I think those are the ones.

Jester, I suppose

Tyrolia Peak 15, AKA 4frnt Deadbolt 15 AKA Head Mojo 15
