The absolute worst snow year in 50 years!

Well, the east coast got quite a bit, considering my park was totally upgraded, and we got alot of pow snow, my season was pretty good. Expecially cause im goin to utah in several days

Theorie goes that a warm front,created by the distance from the sun is to blame. We know(and people that don't know but know now) Earth always get closer and further to the sun. It is a cycle.These past years the Earth has been unusully close to the sun. I may be becaused of the pollution affecting the mass of the Earth. This effect could be amplified by the greenhouse effect.

Antother theorie that I have thinking of is the delay of seasons. The Earth time (the one that determine the seasons is not in singronisation with ours. It could be related to the Earth's distance to the sun.

Responsability,what's that?

This year was a weak EL NINO, not LA NINA. El Nino usually dumps on California, especially southern california, as it did. La Nina dumps on the NW and sometimes CA, as it did in 98-99.

And Tahoe was great in december and january, but it's been spring since then. WARM not COLD. There haven't been any cold storms at all since the big new years storm. Snow's not supposed to fall this weekend below 5,000 ft. Places like pollock pines and nevada city, who usually get snow somewhat reguarly in winter haven't gotten any since new years this year. There's plenty of snow up on the mountains, but it's been a very warm winter.

 
it's funny that someone said that the extra polution on earth might be affecting the earths mass which is moving us closer to the sun...

el nino does this to winter. I think the lack of weather information beyond 100 years makes it impossible for anyone to truly understand why winter has been different for the last 4 or 5 years.

That said, there are many instances in the Fernie of winters that severely lacked snow in the last 100 years, they just generally aren't grouped so close together. From 1983 - 1993 there we're 4 winters that had approximately half of the average snowfall and from 1994-2004 there were 6.

It's very likely that the earth goes through cycles that are far further reaching then the scope of a human lifetime, so with the limited weather information that we have, it would be impossible for someone to say exactly what's going on, and if this is going to continue.

Just gotta wait and see...................

oh and about the earth being closer to the sun these days....the earth is closer to the sun during winter months then in the summer...it's the axis of the planet that gives us the seasons.

BS to all of it..... this happen durring the 1976-77 season. also the last year that washington declared a drout (just like last week). so i don't think its global warming i think it just natural weather cycles. also global warming wouldn't warm up the winter this much just in one area while the rest of the nation got average or above agverage snow fall.

global warming causes fluctuations in temperature, not just warmer temperatures. and in no way does pollution add to the mass of the earth... and even if it did, it wouldnt matter because mass does not affect velocity in space.. since there is not friction. whatever

but if next year is supposed to be a really really good year, then it proves that global warming PROBABLY isnt the cause of the shitty seasons we've been having.

I always hear about the best winters from different people, but we're getting another 4 feet in Tahoe this weekend and I'll be there to experience it. Once in this lifetime.

agreed. all the resorts i ski at least. i travel hoping to find things as i left them last season and am quite disappointed. :( lets all stop driving. not. biking is sounding good though.

i had severe gastro intestinal problems last year, and my extreme and rather persistant flatulence, sent a major contribution to the worlds "hot house" gasses into the atmosphere, thus accentuating and accelerating the effect of global warming in the pacific northwest...hence warmer temperatures and less snowfall...sorry.

here in austria we got an awesome winter this year... snow storms, closed streets. it dumped 2,5meters of snow within 2 days....

austria sucks................. yeah.... it snowed like a foot at hood so timby will still be going.. we still have snowpack from last year... but really its sooo shity... we have not broken the 50 inch base mark alll season....
