The 300

The movie pretty much showed Spartans and Thespians.

Although for those who are concerned with accuracy you do see a united greek army at the end

Fucking siiiick movie

everyone see it

Amazing movie, i liked how epic everything was, and the use of visual effects in literaly every scene and how they dull some colours and bring out some colours.

near the end of the movie i heard a girl say "this is the gayest movie ever". needless to say i punted her into an exit sign

AMAZING MOVIE!! honestly if you havent seen it, go see it. Amazing acting, picture, scenerey, fighting, cinematagrophy (sp), funny moments, action packed. so good. It being rated R made it even better because nothing was fake about it. all real. real sex, blood and gore.

It actually kind of sucked. Had nothing on Sin City. At all. The writing wasn't there, there was no plot, there were a couple of incredibly silly moments, like the first conversation with Xerxes (people started laughing when he mentioned his divine power), the sex scene went on too long as was just awkward (laughs there too). There was more slow-mo than an MSP movie, and usually not to do anything all THAT cool. The bad guy politician character, whose name I don't even know, couldn't have been any more cliche. There were a couple of beautiful shots, like the oracle part, and a lot of the battle sequences were amazing. But they could've done those better, as well. The monologue over the top was okay, but forced. Nobody really had a great performance. I give it 2 out of 4 stars.

Herodotus isn't a documentary either, greek and latin historians basically thought their job was to tell the history as entertainingly as possible, which usually involved massively exaggerating numbers and making a lot of shit up.

It is the ONLY historically "accurate" account of thermopylae. Its not exactly a time with a lot of recording (especially from Sparta different story with Athens)

5th century BC and before were awful times for written records. Heck, the only information we have from the middle east (Israel, Lebanon, Syria, even some parts of Turkey) are from the old testament. The near east, and mesopotamia were nice enough to actually give us something.

j.d, i know your very smart but i honestly believe that 300 was too good for you to realize it yet, it was mind blowing and you have not yet realized it. sin city was good but cuntshit compared to 300. 300=2nd best movie ever made. behind apocolypse now

Eh, since it is based on the graphic novel (and they're emphatic that it is based only on the novel) the move works well. Visuals are great, batte sequences are great, and all that.

But for a movie of this magnitude, it's way too short. and my god the dialouge and characters outside of battle are dry and seriously underdeveloped. The queen's role is just rediculous...

So its good, but far from the best.

aight so i dont know like any history about the spartan time but what were some of those like people/creatures? were those actual people and/or did they really exist cuz they looked soo wierd. like the ninjas, the guy w/ blades for arms etc

im pretty sure those weird creatures and everything were there to represent the heavy influence the gods had over the Greeks, they believed in a lot of like magical shit

acting?!?!?!?! cinematography?!?!?! what acting??? sure the movie was cool, but the acting was so bottom rung, it was sickening. And the "cinematography" you speak of, is nothing more than color correction, and special effects. The final product came out nice, But very little real movie making talent went into this movie

oh fuck i was logged in on the wrong account when I posted that. That was my post btw.

lol, alias discoverd

anyway. I thought the movie was awesome. I dont care about plot or acting skills or any of that shit. If I wanted to see that I would go see something else. This movie was all about ass kicking and tits. Just pure entertainment for about 2 hours. One thing that did bother me was that there was like slow mo and sound exaggeration every 5 seconds even when they weren't fighting. It made the movie slow at parts where they were just talking. But the fight scenes couldnt have been better. I was like FUCK YEAH through the all the fighting. Blood gore and everything was included.

uhhh there was nothing wrong with the acting at all, its based on a comic book, they exagerated(sp?) on purpose. the movie was not supposed to have an oscar worthy script, it was supposed to be a kick ass visually beautiful movie and it was. i think it fucking delivered big time

You gotta keep in mind that it was based on some exagerations. Like it was true that armies put disfigured people on front lines in order to intimidate enemy troops(mind you not all persians were so damn ugly....I imagine). By the ninja's, do you mean the guys with the bombs? That was there more or else to represent the empire's reach into the far east, where gunpowder had already been invented.

The dude with 2 blade arms.... they actual attached blades to amputies arms in coliseum fights in Rome so we can assume they may have done it too.

only some of them. everyone's harping on about the queen's. ehh, no. Those things are way too massive for anything I'd like on a girl. My opinion though...

Not one of the best movies ever, but certainly one of the most epic movies ever.

Everything about 300 was epic, and the battle sequences were amazing.

i know everyone is gonna freak out, but i really didnt think it was tthat spectacular. It def had cool fight scenes, but the story plot was TERRIBLE! The fucking mutant spartan was so bizarre, and completely pointless. They depicted the persian army as a different species and that was totally hilarious/stupid. (i.e the man with the blade for an arm)

Basically the story was terrible, and although they tried it as impossible to feel any sympathy for the queen or the captian whose son died ect due to bad acting and story line.

Again the fight scenes were cool and i think they should have focused more on the battles adn less on a dramatic connections with the characters.

Oh also they totally ripped scenes from gladiator at the end when the queen is in the feilds and the "dramatic" conclusion was put apon her to as she found out her husband had died.

The only reason it is doing well in theaters is that people dont read reviews and there is nothing else good showing.

I dont know man, I couldn't even DREAM of chroma keying an entire movie that well. Plus the fight scenes were genius I though. The first one with the phalanx and they shot with a dollycam using the variable speed; it blew my mind!

I do think they tried too hard with the drama though, it didn't really seem to fit.

and Xerxes reminded me of the wannabe-transvestite from Silence of the Lambs.
