Ok well then maybe without detergent? I did it with mine and it worked out fine, don't remember if I used detergent or not though

false again.... in fact... if you don't wash your jacket the pores on in the material get clogged and the jacket cant breathe anymore and that is how u get wet. washing your jacket 2 to 3 times a season is beneficial to its lifespan. there are detergents out that are better for outerwear like "grangers" that actually boost and restore waterproofing.

TRUE, washing your waterproof outerwear 2 or 3 times a year (if necessary) restores waterproofing, look on gore tex for example:

you are right about gore tex, but that does not apply to most other fabrics. the dryer actually restores goretex's repellency where as the washer will remove your water repelent coating and the dryer will destroy your 2L garments since the waterproof membrane is actually exposed. if you ever wash your gear (other than goretex) wash it with tech wash then hang it up to dry.
