Here's the story of the 15 dollar Fixed gear.

On Friday on the way to the Reasons premier(sick movie) we stopped by a local thrift store. Thats when I saw the dustiest, grimiest, ugliest, road bike ever. It was awesome. For only 15 dollars I had to make it mine. So we loaded her up and took her home. Shortly after I brought it to my local bike shop, where my friend was working. Together we did work. We took off the broken brakes, removed the derailer, and other cables, took off the moldy grips, tightened the spokes, fixed the rims, inflated the tires, applied some bar tape, shortened the chain, then zip tied the hub to the spokes. I had a glorified fixed gear.

Thats the bike AFTER we fixed it up.

So the next day I work cosmetically. Flat black paint, neon pink splatter, attempt of fixing the seat. And some sweet tape jobs on the reflectors. And through all my hard work I have created the coolest bike ever.

Well Thats the story of my hard working weekend, and I thought I'd share! Later d00ds!

fucking pimp mobile dude. you should bring in other random shit and modifie it like shopping carts and vacuums and stuff. itd be awesome

haha i'm not into the whole culture, i just wanted something to do.

I've already gotten shit for the rasta tape everywhere.

thats the jankiest bike ive ever seem man - and ive seen some janky fuckin bikes. you took off the brakes and fixed the freewheel via zip ties? youre gonna die

if you flip the handle bars over its a perfect fit for a 12 pack. and then you dont have to bend over so far when transporting it.

ya, dropped frame.

but i really dont feel a difference, plus when i'm standing stopped at lights i'm not teabagging my frame, and its less work to get on. and it was 15 bucks so It wasn't a major issue.

hahaha all the indie kids say "Thats a girls bike you know."

so i say "Those are girls pants you know."

Gets em everytime.

lol I was wondering why every hipster I see rides the same type of bike...now I know. another trend to whore.

why does the majority of newschoolers insist on being stuck in 2001?

congratulations on finding a piece of trash and making it worse.

THE hipster?

as if there arent more on the site, hidden and without name? thanks man. i'll have you know i was offended too.

but no hate.

TRENDSTER FOR LIFE!

I really think fixed grip bikes are sick. I am definitely not a hipster, but I think they are pretty cool just because of their sheer simplicity. I'm all about being efficient, and using a fixed to get around a college campus or a city is just so simple

except that the bike only has one gear, you can't stop pedaling, and there are no breaks. sounds like an efficient way to crash or hurt someone else/ Look like a scenster/hipster/trendster

wow, I really did not expect this much hate to come from me telling a story about how I fixed a bike for 15 dollars...

No I'm not into it for the image, but living in a small town like pc, and not having a car, it just seemed practical.

And since the shifter was broken and the brakes didn't work, fixed gear was my only solution without having to spend money.

I got a purple and rainbow bannana seat bike out of a dumpster adn took apart my dads old bannana seat bike from when he was a kid and fixed up my new bike. It is sick. I will post a pic later

Hhaha the guy with the Bob Marley pic said it helps to have breaks. Haha I don't think he knows what a fixie is. You need to watch them do the bike messaging in New York on a fixie and then tell me it's dangerous to ride it around a college campus.

so whats the advantage to having a fixed gear? wouldnt you have a lower top speed? or have a harder time getting started?
