Thank you, Mr. Moore.

Well from what i see out of this thread and i dont hold deeply to it becuase i think all polls are bogus in some sense though they give an idea.

But the movie was supposed to be an eye opener and show the Americna ppl what an evil person Bush was all this is sayin is that Moore did a poor job if the polls do not reflect a change.(though i dont necisarilly agree i think that was the point).

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

atlwutever - 'think the tax cuts Bush did really helped people spend more money and that made the economy better'

I come from a fairly wealthy family and i think that my parents got about a 500 dollar tax break. We obviously were able to contribute to stimulating the economy with that 500 dollars. Come on, the only people that could actually do anything with their tax breaks are the CEO's of huge companies that just increase their salary some more.

we all know that polls are not always accurate, and we all know, well, let me rephrase, some of us know a logical fallacy when we see one, but, mind you, that doesnt mean that its not right... its really just incolclusive, and probably not really worth bringing up.

most of us know that moore is fat, and has an aversion to shaving, and those of us with brains know what he is, and take it at that. my real problem is with the moore worship that occurs invariably in these threads. it falls along the same lines as getting your political insight from the fat wreck chords newsletter. for crying out loud. stop it. just stop it right now, you vile swinherding, moore kissing clones. (because that is what you are when you regurgitate and spew the bile that you have been spoon fed... nothing but CLONES. enough.

Misterbinz, you actually have it backwards. The extra money doesn't make a difference to CEOs and the like, because they're already living below their means. They have no need to spend an extra 500 dollars, because an extra 500 dollars means nothing to them. They tend to just put the money into savings.

To middle and lower income people, however, a few hundred dollars might pay for a months rent, a needed car repair, or any number of other consumer goods. Interestingly (but not surprisingly, in retrospect) about 40% of the money recieved from tax cuts thus far has gone to paying off credit card debt. Those that oppose the tax cut would tell you that paying credit card debt doesn't help stimulate anything, but I disagree: by paying off your credit card debt, you free up money to spend on other consumer goods.

Even if I'm wrong, though, there's still 600 billion dollars worth of stimulus at work here, which is enough to have some positive impact on an approximately 2.7 billion dollar annual consumer expenditure (I believe).

From the desk of Mr. S.S. Jibber

^The point he was after was that when one is a rich exec, one gets a much bigger tax cut, and is able to raise one's income substantially. Do the rich need it? No. But I still don't see CEOs cutting their salaries just because they aren't using all that money.

Also, CEOs do tend to cut their salaries during recessions. The average compensation for a CEO of a major coroporation fell to just above 8 million in 2003, for example. Idle funds in the private equity industry fell from like 118 billion to 40 billion, because fund managers felt like they were being compensated for money they had no ability or intention to invest. The incentive for wealthy execs is to make more money, whether or not they intend to spend it on a new ferrari.

From the desk of Mr. S.S. Jibber

Furthermore, the point of the tax cut was, primarily, to stimulate the economy, so the goal was really to give money back to whomever was most likely to spend it, not to whomever needed it. This particular tax cut does appear to be having some positive effect, which we know because consumer spending is on the rise. Unfortunately, we can't know for sure whether or not this rise is directly related to the tax cut, or whether it's merely a reflection of increasing consumer confidence for other reasons.

From the desk of Mr. S.S. Jibber

^I think that was the initial point... it seems to make sense that average joe will spend his tax cut, so when he doesn't get much, there isn't much to put into the economy. Meanwhile, the rich get richer and have no need to spend this extra money on consumer goods. They already have more than they need, and could easily spend that on whatever they wished. That was what was being argued. Fairly simplistic. Is there a logical flaw there? I dont' know. Not an economist.

Stop bitching about Bush and schools, because, believe it or not, it is not a federal issue!!! Was that a surprise? Presidents go around talking about education like they can do anything about it, they talk about it because people want to hear that there president will make better schools. Education is a state issue, it is something that needs to be considered when electing a State official and not a federal one. The president is not powerless, he does have the power to get some education initiatives past, but really it is an issue that falls under state jurisdiction.
