Damn….I’m honestly sort of angry. Does anyone know what happened? He needed help so bad. Like…this is way out of pocket as I don’t know what was or wasn’t happening behind the scenes, but to see him in the throes of SERIOUS mental illness and then to be around family like it’s all good, then to have this outcome is crushing.

For all I know his family tried any and everything, and maybe his death had nothing to do with his recent struggles. I’m just really bummed, got to meet and interview him a few times and admired him a lot.

Hope all his loved ones are ok. And for NS, if a friend or family member is in serious trouble, you gotta do what you can to intervene. And maybe they did. Some people can’t be saved.

I don’t want to be accusatory and assume the worst, it’s just hard having watched all the shit he was doing/saying.

There was a thread about people concerned about his mental health and behavior and NS took it down probably for many reasons. But now it’s like fuck. . . Could we have done more?! This shit is the worst ?

Rest in Peace Aidan. As someone who followed his mental health struggles through social media this past year this hits way too close to home. Love those Vital Films Edits The Format back in the day with TYW. Loved em as a kid, the realest seatbelts in the game. Hope you found peace dog.

I really don't know what to do about this...

Aidan was one of my first friends I could nerd out with about skiing when we were little. He loved skiing more than I did (obviously). So many memories coming to mind of times with "FirstAid" as many OG new schoolers may remember him as.

This is def my favorite edit from him; the music slaps and his style is so on point.

Still to this day you rarely see a nose mute like this. With the dub 10 it's so money.

SIP.

This really sucks to hear about. Gotta say I've lost count of how many times i watched the Format with him and Torin, definitely one of the guys i looked to for style. The shot around 1min is burned into my brain. RIP.

when I was younger, I used to watch his aspen preseason edit on repeat. his skiing gave me a lot of inspiration over the years.

my condolences to his friends and family. ski in peace aidan, you will be missed.

Wow I’m gutted to hear this. He seemed like a really great down to earth guy who just really loved skiing with a truly awesome talent. SIP

What? I've been watching him ski here in Aspen for ages. Loved watching him ski. I see people here generally mentioning "struggles over thr past few years". Did he have substance abuse issues?

I don't know about his personal issues, but I don't think this is the best place to discuss it

Heart breaking to read that news yesterday. Such a style icon and such extremely charismatic dude that was a blast to be around. Never once had a dull run with him in Aspen. SIP to real one.

Damn. That's a sad ending. I feel like there will be some shoulda coulda wouldas on here from the other threads about him recently. Idk that there's anything anyone could have done from here. Idk that there's really an answer. Always sucks when people go way too young. SIP

I disagree. There's this big push right now to "make mental health problems normal" and be open and talk about it. I'm sure we just had some sort of "mental health week" recently, because every athlete on social media was just posting about it. But...every time it gets brought up in a thread like this, it gets downvoted and "not the time and place" comments. And then it gets forgotten about and never spoken about again.

So if people really think it should be out in the open and normalized, lets talk about it. Seems obvious he killed himself, even though it hasn't been outright said. Accidental? On purpose? Overdose? Did he have a substance abuse problem? Get it out in the open and stop people from guessing and wondering. It might even help someone who's keeping it buried because "Now is not the time and place".

RIP. Skiing lost a great one. So many good memories from watching him stomp his first cork 7 to watching him crush it at Aspen Open. The style king will be missed but not forgotten.

PLEASE TAKE METNAL HELTH SERIOUSLY.

much love guys.

The one thing that concerns me about doing that is whether or not people are going to have their story wrong... I am in the camp that thinks it should be normalized, but also aware that this is the internet, and it should probably be up to the family and close friends to make the call here, not just someone who followed him on social media or rode a chairlift with him a few times and thinks they might know the whole story.

In any case, I implore anyone on here to feel free to reach out if they are struggling. We are all a community here and even though we can be total jerks to one another - trolling and bantering and downvoting etc, at the end of the day, we should all be homies if someone is dealing with something big... there should be no judgement given to someone's health, and I think we can all be adults here and agree to that notion..

This is fair and I agree that discussions about mental health should take place on these forums. But I'm just concerned about speculation, rumours, etc. As well as the fact that the exact circumstances haven't really been made public so idk if it would end up being a fruitful discussion to potentially have people talking about "I heard this happened" or "I heard he was doing that." If someone who was actually close to him wants to discuss the details then that's another story.

Colorado folks, if you're ever feeling like you are in a bad place, alone, or just need someone to talk to don't hesitate to call or text the Colorado Crisis Services line. They also offer walk-in services 24/7 depending where you live.

We're all in this together. I'm a former mental health worker. If anyone needs someone to listen/rant to or even just bs with feel free to reach out. 4 Corners folks I'm in the area

It's tough though. I think the families in any cases of suicide or overdose generally want that not to get out there. I get it, that's not the way somebody is supposed to go, but anyone dying young is untimely.

Wild speculation is shitty but def happens, but it's the internet. I think that hiding some of these things can be worse. I'm more talking in general from people I know that have passed to both of those.

Maybe the family is somewhat embarassed or ashamed, or maybe just dealing with the loss, but I think not talking about it and pretending it didn't happen doesn't really help ever.

Idk, i get the reasonings but evermn regardless, some people will obviously know or fined out what happened.

I think at least in some regard we've moved on from a lot of those judgements and both knowing what happened can bring a sense of closure and also the realization of the impact of mental health issues or drugs.

I get that this definitely was not the case years ago, and the stigmas these things carried were pretty bad.

Do the families owe anybody anything? Not at all. But the less information the more speculation.

If you're close to somebody just that knowledge brings a sort of truth to it. Intense maybe but these are issues that aren't going away.

Threads about people who passed getting deleted I get, but I don't think it solves anything. Some people have an overkill amount if curiosity. It can be annoying, spark the rumor mills etc.

Idk. It's shitty either way. As far as Aidan I only know of his skiing. Was more posting about in general or regarding people I was close to.

Nobody lives forever but it sucks to go out so young.

ski in peace aidan! Those early breck videos motivate me to rip the park so many times! Thanks for everything you did for the ski scene we will remember you!

Been thinking bout this a lot lately Aiden was my AVSC coach for a few years and I got pretty close with him still can’t wrap my head around not being able to go up coney with this legend this season truly devastating
