I am fucking sick of getting ripped off by these motherfuckers. Spend $600 on text books a semester and get $50 back at the end. I just payed $125 for a "binder ready" book. The fucking pages aren't bound- it's a stack of papers. What a waste of fucking money. The funy part is it says the "binder ready book" will help my grades and help with flexibility. having a bunch of loose papers floating around is going to help my grades? Flexibility? For what, so I can have a piece of the book in every room? I wish there was something I could do. Oh well, I'll just rant on the internet and deal for a few more years...
 
buy the international versions on abebooks.com or ebay. half.com has good deals sometimes too.

i hardly ever buy from the university bookstore!
 
why cant you sell the books at a used book store or something? get more than 50 bucks.

college is a pretty large waste of money. maybe not in the long run as far as education and future. but the immediate costs are rediculous.
 
fuck that shit, I wait till I got to all the classes then scope whether or not I really need the book. But seriously, why the hell would you "update" a book and then charge an extra 50 bucks for it?
 
Buying books is lame. But I am saving them up, and I'm going to sell a bunch off online and make like 20 bucks.

I'm convinced that it is all a massive scheme by the book publishing industry and school bookstores to make boatloads of cash.
 
i think i only spent around 350 for books this semester. but thats only like 3 books. and i had to buy this clicker thing for $50. all it is is a radio frequency remote. sucks
 
by my third year i only bought like one book. still got A's. textbooks are a scam at the univ./college level
 
ya its pretty beat, since the school gets the book then buys it back for real cheap and then resells the book, so the actual book maker doesnt see anymore money
 
the only book i really need is my english book. other than that i dont touch anyof them they are sealed in thier plastic. i wonder if ill ever use them
 
Depends what your courses are, many are custom editions etc and only sold at the Uni, I just wait a few weeks and buy all the books from kids who drop the classes.
 
my tuitions ridiculous so i always thought it was included, so yesterday i get a fucking bill for like 400 bucks and they pretty much force you to pay it, absolute bullshit
 
its true.

some art history class i was in had something like 450 students, but the school made a deal with the publisher to buy a later edition overstock, but still sold the required book for something like $110 each. The school was making something like $60 or more per book...

but on the contrary, i had one professor who used his book in the class, but just bought enough copies of the book for the class (~15 people). but that was a freak exception
 
i buy all my books off half.com. i spend at most 200 a semester for about 4 to 5 books. then i sell them back and so far through 2 yrs, i have always made a profit!
 
My mom works at a collage so I get in for free and the place I work at offers scholarships so if I get a scholarship that could pay for my books and I would pay almost nothing for collage.
 
I only had to spend $75 this semester which is extremely cheap for books. Got them all used. Such a better deal.
 
the best thing to do is find ppl who need your book after ur done with it and sell it to them for like 5-10 less than it is for them to buy it at the store. win-win situation. like i had a 140dollar book and used it was 115. if i traded it in i would of got 20 bucks, but i gave it to my roomie for 100
