the reason she is a vegetable is because her husbands blocked the way for her to get rehab. shes not completly braindead. shes not on a respirator, shes on a feeding tube, as long as she gets nourishment, her body sustains itself, just like the rest of us. she responds to external stimulus, and wakes up from time to time.

what reason is there to keep her alive? her parents need to learn that it is best to remember her for who she was and not let her lay there dying slowly in a bed. This is such a big issue because if it passes through the sepreme court than it will lead the way to abortion being outlawed-Right to life anyone, and Roe v wade will be overturned. which is ridiculous and stupid but it might happen

I am not american, but I have been watching this case for a while and I feel that the govt is overstepping its boundaries. Also I heard on cnn or something that in the american constitution there is an ammendment or something saying that the govt can't pass a law directly aimed at one person. I may be wrong, because I am no expert on the american constitution

Why is this case in court, what do the people there know about medical care?

the court issue is really between who should have the right to take care of her i believe...essentially, the schindlers are trying to gain custody of their daughter, because michael schiavo, as her husband, currently has custody.

I would also like to point out that Terri has never had an MRI or a PET.

Two years ago I had a massive fractured skull and blood on my brain. The doctors told my parents I would likely never function again. They were dead wrong. On every bit of testing I went through I outscored the average American by a country mile. Schiavo's husband should just get a divorce.

Melvs this isnt a court issue, lets be human beings for once and not political correctness bullshit. This is a human being that has a soul. Thats what distincts us from the dead is a soul, as long as she has a soul and has a chance of recovery we should do everything in our power to keep the person alive. I know that this is where the money issue comes in but money has been given to her ex-husband to be spent on treatment but apparently wasnt. Also this guy is her ex-husband by all the means, he lives with a women and two of her children, I dont see how he can decide whethere his ex-wife should live or not.

My position on this:

1) It's almost impossible to find moral ground to withdraw life support from someone without their consent, whether they're able to offer it or not. So I have no idea how the courts managed to reach the decision they did on this one. Then again... I wasn't there for the case.

2) It's downright insane that congress has found a COURT DECISION they don't agree with, and just decided to overturn it regardless of the actual legal processes that were undertaken to reach that decision. Are they going to start composing legislation to reverse all the other decisions the majority of congress disagrees with, as well?

3) Stop calling her "Terri". You too, Graves. None of these pricks give two shits about some woman they don't know, and neither do you. If the republican position was the opposite, you'd be arguing in the other direction. This is purely political, and it's despicable the way these people have played off this story for publicity. Assholes.

4) Excuse me, but isn't North Korea expanding its nuclear arsenal? Aren't there constand militant bombings going on in Iraq? Didn't some jackass just decide that Paul Wolfowitz would do a bang-up job as head of the World Bank? Why the hell are we talking about this again? Oh, right... that sentimental story really plays well in the heartland.

5) Hypocrisy. In 1999, George W Bush, then governor of Texas, passed a law relevant to this situation. Last week, that law allowed for a 6 month old child to be removed from the ventilation system which was keeping him alive, despite the parents' objections. So why exactly is the President making it a point to cancel his vacation (which he's never done, not even when a Tsunami hit certain 3rd world countries) to come back to Washington and make sure the legislation gets through? I'm confused on this one.

i dont really care about the spacifics of this case in particular, but the idea of the legislature overturning a court ruling is rediculous. i have to agree that its nothing but a political move. that said, if it comes as a suprise that this, or any administration would do such a thing, then you need to check back into reality. thats what governments do.

After all the tsunami was a worldly issue, not just a US issue, therefor the UN should have been the primary care-takers of the tsunami torn region, especially with all that money they pocketed during the oil-for-food fiasco. I cant possible know how she or her family is feeling all I can know is what I would want done in that situation for myself. Personally I would want to die even with a small chance of recovery to me its not worth the time money and anguish of my family and friends witnessing me this way. I want them to grieve and be done.

This is why at even the ripe age of 20 years old i already have made out a living will for situations such as this.

Tweaks the problem is that Terry has never gotten rehab. I was out cold for two days. The doctors told my parents I was fried. They put two options on the table, death or a vegetative state. I beat the odds, I got lucky. Could she ever make a full recovery? Unlikely at this point. But could she become much more attentive and aware of her surroundings, perhaps even gaining back physical capabilities? Well that will never be known unless she is given rehab.
