Terrorism- WHAT THE FUCK???

Wrong. I was in AP World History last year and my teacher was goddamn obsessed with Islam. We spent a good month on it, easy. Throughout its history, Islamic conversion has been, for the most part, peaceful... even in Islamic societies, Christians, Jews and people of other religions were treated equally, aside from a few financial benefits you earned from converting. So fuck yourself.

Amazing, you spent a month on it in a highschool AP class. You must be an expert. I'll bet you haven't even opened a Qur’an.

You still made a fucking asinine generalization. There are historical examples of Muslim people being both tolerant and intolerant of other faiths. Not to mention the tolerant ones were limited at best.

A big fundamental difference is that Islam was designed as a societal code whereas Buddhism is more designed as a spiritual philosophy.

I think what quinny getting at is that you cannot say that one religion is "more peaceful" than another. It's like saying "the rock on the left is definitely faster than the stick on the right". Buddhism is considered by some to not even be a religion. In essence it is a philosophy or a way of living your life, to achieve a better understanding of reality based on the teachings of Buddha. Islam on the other hand is much more faith oriented. Actually believing in supernatural a being and his teachings.

In theory, how is either one remotely not peaceful?

In theory, how is the rock or the stick capable of moving to achieve speed?

And even if you are talking about the followers of the religions being "more peaceful", I will still disagree with you. Are you forgetting large portions of history known as the Muslim Conquests and the Crusades? Those weren't religiously based at all... I will say though that the it has been faily peaceful up until after WWII and Isreal. But also the middle east is only about 1/4 of the people that follow Islam.

And I hate to diverge off topic, but you bringing up AP classes got to me. The AP system is bullshit. Everyone should take advantage of as many as they can. Most do not even compare to college courses.

Why racial profiling won't work (2 reasons, at least):

1. These peoples' beliefs require that they be clean shaven, washed, and so on, before going off to their deaths. The terrorists aren't the bearded, dirty, turban-sporting arabs so many of you seem to think they are... in fact, the guys with the turbans and the beards are the best people to trust NOT to blow up the plane you're getting on. The guys who embody the threat look like any other balkan, middle eastern, spaniard, indian, egyptian... hell they could be from anywhere from the look of them (okay, maybe not Scotland, but you get the idea).

2. If you start picking out all the arabs and searching them, the terrorists will find little old grannies to carry theirbombs for them. And yes. They can find whatever type of person they need to. There are plenty of them out there... they will find the hole in the profiling system, and exploit it. And because all the guys NOT carrying bombs are getting all the attention, airports will be LESS secure.

You make a good point, I apologize for my generalization. However, if you look at what I wrote... it was clearly just for the sake of analogy, not a statement of fact. And Quinny, you're a fucking tool, I'm not claiming to be an expert, just that I do know more than "nothing". Get a life, Christ...

So your direct comparison of Buddhism and Islam was, in fact, an analogy of Buddhism and Islam? I think you need look up the word "analogy" in a dictionary, or reevaluate your ability to write. You made a boneheaded comment and I called it out. Don't get in my grill when you made the stupid comment.

That concept gets it's origins from sura 56 from the Qur’an. The gist of the line is something like "no one shall touch (the Qur’an) but those who are clean." That in itself is a loaded comment that can be interpreted and translated to no end. It also depends on what school of interpretation you come from.

I agree with some of your post and other parts make me want to shoot you, but you bring up one really good point that can be debated...

We may never know how they think, or what their end goal is. They may never get what they want, or they may eventually drive us out of the mideast with the same determination that got us out of Vietnam, either way we both lose. I'm not trying to be racist either, but the fuckers are about as dumb as it gets. They are fighing this so called holy war against one of the most powerful countries in the world. Its the same mistake japan made. You get us pissed, and a lot of people are going to die, end of story. The damage has been done, America is at war, lets fight the fuckers.

Dumb? Correct me if I'm wrong, but we don't have ANY troops in North Vietnam or North Korea. Guerilla warfare works better than ANY bombs we can drop. We spent more money on bombs to drop in Vietnam than we did on our own transportation system in the Tet-offensive year.

No matter how many bombs we drop, how many missles we launch, and how many bullets we shoot, they will always be there. The youth is a machine, ready to take on the goal that so many have wanted for a long time. It's very influencial to a child when a US bomb hits your house and kills family memebers that wanted nothing to do with the "war on terror".

Their goal is simple. Leave the fucking Middle East. They want their homeland clean of Westerners that don't belong there.

Shit your in here too, and your right again, I hope your not argueing with me cause thats damn close to what I was trying to say minus the youth part since I never would have though of that.

i'm gonna keep this short so people might accually read it:

i agree with everything exept your opinion on profiling and fucking over protesters, because it would tear the foundations of fredom of our nation, and the whole islamic thing, its just an excuse for the expansion of a politicaly motivated regime, used to brainwash people into what we call terrorists. its just like the crusades

How is what you said even remotely close to what Mi(scra)tch said? Unless there is some strange element of sarcasm.

I think you have a false sense of the world. There are terrorists, and they do attack. Seriously. It isn't brainwashing, it is fact. If you honestly believe that it is brainwashing, propaganda, deception, etc., then perhaps you need to educate yourself on the matter.

The Constitution got a bad rap at some point and now every one seems to disagree with it.

(whats worse is that they think they're right!)

people in this thread seem to accept the idea that their personal freedoms and any sort of privacy are OBSOLETE. That is having no more practical application.

terrorism is still killing alot fewer people than civil wars, AIDS, plane crashes, and Gang violence; is the former more important just because there is a way to point the finger somewhere other than at ourselves.

The Founding Fathers of this country were TERRORISTS, commiting crimes punishable by death one after another.

What? There's a difference between "committing crimes" and terrorism. I have no idea what you were thinking when you made that comparison, but it must have been something special.

Well, maybe we werent even close, but I agree with what he said, and we both sorta said that determination and gorilla warfare beat firepower, like as it relates to vietnam, but thats about it

my best friend is arab and muslim but im sorry in airports they should be screening people of the muslim community alot more. instead of trying to be politcally correct and checking old grandma's. if a white guy robbed a bank with one arm it would make no sense to have a black subject. but the thing that i dont like in your thread. you put bbc in the same sentence as a bunch of other new stations that are american and are shit. fox cnn all that shit can't even be comparred to the bbc. the british do news best, and alot of other things but i wont get into that

I totally agree dude. It seems a large portion of the population is giving up on free thinking and becoming "floaters". Just like you said, they see no practical application of their freedoms and take them for granted.

And about the damage that terrorism does... take a look at this:

*2001 Cancer Statistics

* All types of cancers except basal and squamous cell skin cancers and in situ carcinomas except urinary bladder cancer: 1,284,900 new cases, and an estimated 555,500 deaths in the year 2002. The breakdown of some of these cancers are as follows:

*

Lymphomas - an estimated 60,900 new cases and 25,800 death

*

Other and unspecified primary sites - an estimated 30,200 new cases, with 43,700 deaths.

*

For childhood cancers, an estimated 9,100 new cases are expected to occur among children aged 0 -14, with 1,400 deaths. Cancer is the chief cause of death by disease in children between the ages of 1 and 14.

http://www.cancure.org/statistics.htm

-Thats 501,300 deaths due to cancer alone in 2001.

-16,652 people were killed by drunk drivers in 2001.

http://alcoholism.about.com/cs/drive/a/aa020429a.htm

-2,973 people died and 24 remain missing due to terrorism in 2001.

Clearly terrorism should be our #1 priority...

Tobacco, alcohol, and other illegal substances killed more poeple than terrorism in 2001.

But hold your bets! Who is going to be the first one to say "But if we don't stop them now, terrorists will do a much bigger attack and kill even more people"?

the last little bastard to be arrested in canada lived around the corner from my house!

i was in high school with that little fuck!!
