Well right now the whole state is abnormally warm and we aren't transitioning into winter too well. It's gonna suck if we don't get a lot of snow this year: 1 reason is skiing and another reason is we're gonna be in a big drought. Anybody else worried?
 
I'm definately worried, this has been a trend in tahoe for the last 3 years. The plants aren't even sure what to do, some the ones the normally bloom in the spring have already started blooming. Kind of makes you wonder
 
It's pretty obvious that something isnt right with our climate. At a time in which it should be getting colder, its getting hotter. There is no indication that winter is coming at all, especially in areas such as Orange County, where it was 95 degrees.

Big Bear won't be open until late December at least. That's pretty obvious. They're trying to pass off that they'll have the resort open pre Thanksgiving, but its almost 70 up there during the day, and around 57 at 10:12 PM, of today.

I know up north its similar, but not as bad. I'm sure part of it is where we live, because Breck and Mammoth are both being dumped on, but this can't be normal. I talked to my Geology and Earth Science professor and he said that the world goes in hot/cold cycles. Hot for 10,000 years, cold for 100,000. Currently, we've been in a hot cycle for 11,000 years. It SHOULD start getting cold, yet it hasnt. He attributes global warming to natural cycles, but at the same time thinks humans are about 40 percent of the problem.
 
its all about us burning fossil fuels and putting carbon into the atmosphere that shouldnt be released for another few hundred thousand years. we should be going into another ice age right now, but its only getting warmer. melting ice caps could though us into another ice age though, so keep your fingers crossed!
 
ARE YOU PPL KIDDING ME???!!! wats with all the negativity? in the first week of November wich wasn't long ago. it snowed 20 inches, thats better then normal. yet all ppl who love sayin "global warming" do is look at what supports their whining theorys!!!!!

I'm all for positivity and hoping that there was snow coming. I would give anything for us to go into a cold weather pattern for the rest of my life. But I'm just examining the facts. It's a sad reality. But we can hope.

 
Exactly. What is with all these negative people these days. An pat3, you not examining facts. Your stating you perception of the situation. None of this is scientific fact.
 
Are you guys for real? We just skied powder at Mammoth in early November. It's been a few years since we've had that and a good start to the season. Now we get a warm week and everybody freaks out. Last year we were skiing blown snow in mammoth until December and everybody thought the winter was dead there....but then the Eastern Sierras came alive and it turned out to be an average winter in terms of snowfall. The climate is always going to be unpredictable. Look at the 04-06 seasons in Mammoth....500 plus inches then followed by a shitty year. Get off the Al Gore Global Warming bandwagon and relax. It's still only mid november.
 
Yeah i think the last time most tahoe resorts opened up early or at a normal time was like 4 years ago. Yeah i remember riding on like a 40 inch base with a mid season park at alpine about 4 years ago.
And i saw someone post somewhere in these forums about how the northwest gets storm after storm... well we had about a three foot base up here in oregon and in 10 days it went to mostly dirt (at the resorts), because we got like 4-8 inches of rain and our mountain will be opening late too :(.
 
Actually,

I was just making an informed statement about global warming patterns that I had discussed with my professor. Thats all. I'm not garuntee'ing the things I said.
