Terrible Shin Bang..

Got damn my shins are killing me. It started to happen towards the end of the season. I have 1080 boots and I guess they must have expanded or something but it really makes rails a pain to ride. I really cant afford to buy a new pair of boots, I remember somebody posting that they got some insoles and everything was cured. Anyone have any suggestions to my problem?

i had the same problem with the 1080 boot, but that was before they broke in. the only way ive been able to solve it is to pull the tongues away from the front of my shin, to the inside so my shin doesnt smack it straight on. the tongues are so arched i dont think anyone has ankles like that..and if they did i doubt they'd be skiing. hope that helps.

i have a friend that always whines about shin bang. i dont get what it is.

I get the ol' shin thing quite a bit, especially from 20 to 40 ft. drops. My buddy said it was from landing backseat too much

^ bingo backseat landings will kill your shins. reast up for a couple of days and you'll be able to ski fine.

shin splints. if you land in the back seat, your legs will try to bend at your shins, causing the muscle to tear away from the bone. then you cry. i avoid them by landing switch. and im serious.

^^ yea landing switch helps a lot. this happened to me from hucking myself off a 60 ft. booter about 15 times a day every day for a few weeks. i didnt have any pain with rails tho. but landing backseat killed me. and now im dead. the end

its because you have too much room between your shin and your boot, stuff something in the tonge of your boot (like cardboard) so when you flex forward and back, you shin is pretty much snug with the front and back of the cuff

or get a booster strap which really helps, or make one on your own, or rub your pole down your shin real hard, you will feel bumps and bubbles like they are popping or something, but it helps does stuff to the nerves

I've been suffering from shin pain in the last couple of seasons except this one. Last year I had to stop skiing mid-February because of the pain. This year nothing. The only difference I think there is in my skiing is that I am tightening my boots a lot more and like the other guy said I am turning the tongues of the boot way to the inside before buckling up...

I don't think the landing back seat has anything to do with it because I land backseat a lot and this year I have jumped more than all the previous years of skiing put together, and no pain. So I'm gonna say that - for me, anyways - it's in the boots...

What do you guys mean by ' turning the tongues of the boot way to the inside before buckling up'. Do you mean shifting the tounges to the side of your knee so its not directly touching? I'm having a hard time understanding this.

^ Yeah you got it. Picture yourself standing in your ski boots ready to buckle up. Take the tongues of the boots and move them towards each other. What this does for me is move the center of the pad directly into the middle of the tibia, as that bone is on the 'inside' of one's shins.

mine turned out not to be shin bang, its tendonitis up the sides of my legs. get physio, ice and stuff.

'Amy, are your ears cold? Your ice is looking icier than usual...' -Turpin

get arch supports and wear them in your shoes. wear them in whatever you're walking on and I'll bet that your shin bang will go away in a while

i get shin bang a shit load. i have 1080 boots too . this is my second year with them. i get it wen skiing moguls sometimes, and landingswitch leaning too far forward. it does not matter how strong your shin muscles are. i tend to ski with my boots looser. one kid told me about these inserts but they are hard to find. the are called the elminators or something like that. he got them in whistler. siad they are amazing
