Tell NS What You Want

If ns collaborated with some artists to make nice merch (a blank hoodie with a logo on it is not nice) people would actually rep ns. As of now the merchandise is really basic and kinda cringy. I’m imagining some cool illustrations on the back with an artistic rendition of the logo on the front

I mean that's all fine I guess, but most people probably dgaf. It's a niche forum with only what I can assume is a slowly decreasing user-base. It'll probably go the way of DogsOnAcid or GameReplays which I used to frequent, with ever tightening purse strings. If the site keeps running in its current form, I'll be happy.

I definitely don't want NS Shorts but maybe a 'clips' category dedicated to 10-30s clips of a few tricks at a time would encourage more user uploads and engagement.

Edits are sick, but based on the huge number of people uploading shorter clips to the socials, it seems like many don't have the time/skills/production quality to confidently upload a proper edit every year.

More NS meet ups at mountains!

Could even get some of the member to help organize more casual meet ups around the world. Would be cool to see.

fix the goddamn bumping!!

idk if there's anyway to increase incentive for posting edits here again.... but those were the days getting to comb through new edits that people actually put time in to.

1. Assuredly difficult, but push traffic to the site at any opportunity. Having content being exclusively hosted on NS (no youtube, no vimeo, no insta) for at least a day or two, with some trailers pushing traffic on socials could be an interesting thing to try. The idea is to try and create a self-sustaining or self-feeding system.

Insta kids go to the site for the vid, make an account, by some merch, see a pro in a forum, chat around, then go on to post their own videos, or news or photos and tell their friends. I've got the old ad kit lying around somewhere, so I'm not really sure the difference in ad dollars between socials and the site these days but... yeah.

2. Merch/brand collabs. Seems like NS has been doing a bit of this, but I feel like when I was getting onto the site (much more recently than most oldheads) NS felt like it was basically it's own brand. Now you ask a kid on the hill about it and they just think it's an Instagram account. That needs to change. Jacket collabs, small contests, meetups. Money's tight but we've got a pretty good community that can bring down costs and do a lot of this in a grassroots manner...with some dictation and guidance from NS.

3. Give me my email back

Challenging things to do no doubt, but things I'd like to see.

I still have the O'neill x NS collab jacket with the drama llama on it that was sold from evo. It's cool.

YES man my buddy had that jacket. Loved it. People would ask questions about it, it looked sick, etc. etc.

This has already been said but definitely incentivize making edits. Maybe every month there can be a featured edit based on a community vote or upvote count and they get a shoutout and maybe some special stickers or sum. I just want to see more single skier, local hill type edits

there used to be video of the day, week, month, and i think year and all time as well?? idk but my neighbors would come over and we would just watch the videos of the day and gettin fuckin hyped!! but there were way more uploads then.

i think NS should shift its entire focus on creating a time machine and sending us back to 2012

Thanks for making the thread. We want to hear what you guys want because we need to make some big decisions.

On the tech end, we are going to have to make some pretty significant changes to this house of cards in the next 12 months. Some good, some potentially more challenging but they need to happen. That aside, we want to make the content you guys want to see so hit us.

Im willing to donate my time to help on the tech side of things (as its my job) but I would not support a full revamp. I really do enjoy how NS brings a feeling of nostalgia to a lot of us.

I also like the "broken" search bar. It provides probably a lot of pain to newer people, but a good amount of enjoyment for us veterans.

Also good work soldier :)

Lol so true. I don't think I've ever used the searchbar on the site.

Occasional captchas to post or comment. Bots have been getting pretty annoying recently

to be fair, NS has a pretty strong system to block spam, the only stuff that gets through is a real person with a email, bots can't make accounts on NS, at least as far as I know. we had a big wave of bot spam one year and we locked down the registration process pretty hard.

im sure the system could us some updating, but all of the spam ive seen in the past few years is all real people just copy/pasting links within text.

AFAIK this is to prevent spam. most spam posts are posted in threads they find on google, so its usually some old thread about *insert hot topic like bitcoin* and there hasnt been a post for over a year and the spam comes in.

I know it's still a thing, I've had a few that got POTD. But it seems like you have to go searching the website to find it, instead of it being featured on the homepage.

oh i see what you mean, not the splash page, which i think you can only get to if you type in that URL. i have that set in my bookmarks so thats where i always start

I remember when Powder Mag (before it became Outside or whatever bullshit it is nowadays) used to go to local ski areas, predominantly smaller/non-mega corporate resorts and just interview local skiers and asked them about their life and experiences and what skiing meant to them. Could be interesting. More editorials from random non-industry affiliated skiers and just people who work real jobs but find time to ski. Those were some of the coolest articles to read back in the day.

Not necessarily a want, but wonder if NS might consider buying Powder from their old parent corp. Would be really cool to have Powder Mag back, even if just digital.

I don't think their pocket are deep enough to buy anything.

How much did this site cost? Was it like low 5 figures or few pairs of skis and supply of beer for the weekend?

TBH it's not worth buying another "brand" when NS already has a brand. Mags are different than they used to be, it used to be pump out issues for ad dollars but now it's a high level piece of content thats revenue is driven by the cost of the product.

NS might as well just make a NS mag if that's what they wanted, but Doug was always anti-print...

We already have a "core" magazine on the come up currently, it would be super whack to invent a competitor rather than just support the one started by an actual newschool legend

Am I crazy that there was a NS Mag at one point? I feel like I remember one with a road gap on the cover.
