Telemark?

My friend was talkin about a binding that you can use for telemarking and then if you wanna downhill u can just fasten back on ..., would that be a good way to go when your learning? Or should i just go with straight telemark bindings?
 
sounds like a touring binding. They free heel so you can hike backcountry, with skins and gain ground fast, and then lock in so you can go down heel locked in. the tele motion is a little differen't than a traditional tele binding.
 
thtas what i was thinking. and thats not really going to be a regular tele binding or alpine binding. it rotates liek a tele binding, so you can go skinning, but it locks down for alpine decents. but its madd tall, so its like a triple riser plate
 
alot of people think there is such a binding....but there isnt. Like people are saying above its an ALPINE TOURING binding, and not a telemark binding, two totally different things. You cant even really telemark on the alpine binding, made for zero resistance where as a telemark binding has resistance. If your looking at bindings id say buy a pair of hammerheads from twenty-two designs. They are a bit more expensive but well worth it. They can also aid in the learning curve of the telemark turn because it will force you to weight your back ski, therefore teaching you the turn quicker. They also have moveable pivot points so you can fine tune the performance you want from the binding. if you have any more questions get at me. most important though.....HAVE FUN with it.
 
i think there called trekker bindings, im not sure but ive seen my dads friend use them and its like the whole binding comes up like a tele boot and idk, its wierd
 
yeah, as pinnerspinner said, those are AT bindings, not tele. Just get some real tele bindings, if you're on a budget the threepin hardwire are probably your best option.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this. AT bindings are not compatable w/ tele boots and you cannot do a tele turn in an alpine boot. Currently there is NO tele binding that can lock back down to do alpine turns. You'd think someone would make them, but there isn't one out there yet.

If you want to get technical, you could buy the bomber bishop bindings with the stiff springs and change out the pin placement from stiff to loose for days that you want to tele w/ a not too restistive tele binding and then move it to stiff for days you feel like you want to have your heel closer to your ski. It'll still move up and down, but you're going to have to work a lot harder to get that heal up.

if you try to to tele on an AT rig you'l die, or at least look like an idiot.

I do alpine turns on my tele gear very easily, you just have alittle less control.

 
trekkers i believe are the ones that click in to your regular alpine bindings. then from there you can move on up the mountain.
 
they're just another type of Alpine Touring gear, the idea is to be able to skin it up hills and then click back down for the descent. they're no good for tele, especially if you're just learning
