TELEMARK QUESTION

Call me a newb but why do people ski telemark on twin tips? How can you ski switch without your heels connected? Just something ive been pondering

they can ride backwards,

and the guys who are really good can take off and land of switch.

there a bunch of good tele flicks out there online. im sure someone will post the links..........

Telemark is a growing part of the newschool skiing movement and newschool is a growing part of tele skiing. As a whole i find that us tele skiers are better rounded skiers than most NSers, not to diss at all. We take off and land switch. We switch up and spin off rails. We spin, flip, cork off jumps. Check out www.freeheellife.com for some insight on a tele community that is growing real fast so watch out.

There is one kid at my resort that rides park with tele's and he's pretty good. I really want to get into tele but I dont have the money right now... to those of you who do ride tele is it hard to pick up?

I used to tele, it isn't that hard. I remember the only problem I had when I was learning was to find my balance when I bent my knees, but once you've got that it's really fun

alright but no one really answered my question..how do they do it? do u guys still bend ur knees like u do when u go forwards? If anybody has a vid of switch tele skiing can u post it

tele is where it's at, super fun. The movies being put out aren't particularly good showcases of what's really going on. You can make switch tele turns and they are sick, and alot of fun. You can also make alpine turns switch, just as teleskiers are not always in tele stance going forward. Basically, it's just about balancing well and always being really centered on your skis.

yup, totally agree. for me, i dont have a good park. it just...sucks. haha. great all mountain and some steeps. but teleing just makes everything fun. turning and shit is fun, feels smooth and nice. and you can mix it up to. try switch tele turns. its tricky shit. but yea, people land switch, jump switch. you just gotta learn. your weights gotta be back on your heels. otherwise you get a tip in the sternum or teeth, depending on the mount. haha. but yea, its just fun. i admit i have fun on my skogans which are mounted alpine just doin 1s of everything with no worries, but teleing is just so smooth and rad. plus once you get good at it, you can do 1s of everything without caring. everyone should try it.

i tele and my first day on them i was skiing switch its so tight!

i havnt become a tele crossover yet but i ride tele about 40% of the time

i think we need a tele skiers cult

a switch tele turn is just like a regular one, except the toe is on the outside and heel-down on the inside

this is always being debated, but the vast majority of good teleskiers drop their inside knee when turning switch, and have the heel down on the outside.

yea, that is the real "tele" way. the other is an alpine turn with a super staggered stance, so the knee is dropped

most stores i go to sell telly stuff, i ski at fernie were there are alot of tellyers just ride normall skies not specific telly skies

many people ride switch with their knees dropped and such but it looks goofy and i've yet to have seen it done efficiently or even remotely with style. with that saying i prefer to ride switch alpine style. it just makes more sense when riding the park.

with the new tele bindings you can ride switch with relatively no difference in technique than you would with alpine bindings. the new bindings are so stiff they'll keep you locked in without having to lean too far forward.

most of the videos out there don't do justice for what can be done on tele skis so don't place too much emphasis on them.

in park you dont really need to drop your knee when riding switch, but at some point in the future, teleskiers will land switch in the pow and then it will be essential

it isnt that hard to ride switch in sense of attempting smaller kickers switch (something under 20 ft), landing is harder but the stiff bindings help alot
