Telemark in the park

I have been telemarking off and on for 15 years now (I actually started in leather Garmont boots with no lifter on my Voile three pin...crazy).

Telemark adds variety to my alpine life, is great for conditioning and give me easy access to new terrain.

Recently I decided to mess around in the park. It was embarrassing at first, but I see potential. Boxes were interesting, but rails were an absolute disaster. I think I will eventually find the sweet spot behind my heel, but no such luck yet. Quarter pipes and jibby features were also fun because the dropped knee added a surprising amount of amplitude....and absorbed the landings easier (Knee pads a must).

Has anyone in the NS community tried this...

What is your set up....any tips?

uhh.. no.

I wouldn't even think about this, let alone think about it.

Let alone try it.

Yessir. I essentially learned to ski on tele's. Started messing around in the park and it was really fun. Granted I couldn't do more than 2 out of a flat rail and 3 on a 10' table I had lots of fun. Unfortunately that part of my skiing career is over. Maybe I'll try it again sometime...

truth

RMU is a ski company

inb4 teleak, he will add sooner or later, he tele's in the park

um.... what?
and a few years ago there was a dude at 7 springs that shredded park in tele's, i once saw him do a truckdriver 7, but instead of just grabbing, he pulled the skis into his chest and bearhugged them. literal pencil 7.

the park manager at my mountain is a tele skier, hes sick. He was doing right 5s and riding out down flat down . i know it doesnt sound like much but when u actully put on tele skis its hard.

My park setup is RMU Diams w/ hammerheads w/ stiffy springs, so they're super stiff so i can do presses and stuff, it also makes landing switch a little easier.

Feel free to PM me with questions if you have any. I can probably answer them for you.

I'm on also on RMU Diams w/ Hammerheads, with Scarpa T1s. Going to upgrade to Stiffy springs in a paycheck or two.

I still slide rails the same, try to keep the rail directly under foot, and your body centered over the rail too. There really isn't a huge diference in the park, spinning on/off rails, switch-ups, etc dont really require any different techniques. obviously, skiing/landing switch is requires you to stand upright more, but that comes quickly with practice

Old 169 Public Enemy with Hammerheads I dont know anything really about how to correctly Telemark since im so used to alpine and I taught myself. But 270 on to dub knee press on th box is one of the absolute sickest looking tricks you can do. I also inspire to be able to dub knee press on rails but no such luck yet. Hardly anyone Telemarks in the park and you will definately be known.

my buddy Zeph was on the UVM Freestyle Ski Team and rode tele. He hit everything, and was super dirty on rails. I recommend a more active/stiffer setup just so things don't overly flex for you. He rode T1s and O2s.

My current setup is bd Riva Z with a older T2 three buckle scarpa. The skis are older Salomons. They are pretty dead I am thinking about some used LTEs or used Line Blends.
I have always mounted my teles at the balance point, but in the park maybe centermount? Any park tele skier with suggestions?

i will not be doing this because i saw a tele skier land t the bottom of the pipe wall and landed on his face, broke his nose, and got knocked out.

Egadds.....shit. I could get hurt? Damnit?

I understand the inherent risks, but I could get hurt skiing in the trees too, but you know how it is....everytime you hear the clunk of your bindings engaging.

Thanks for the concern I am sure to progress with caution so I don't get messed up.

Cheers.

Dont tele guys slide rails and do like toestands or lift their heels all the way? I remember seeing a video like that once.
