Telemark Advice

So I got a free tele setup (bindings + boots), I am new to the whole tele concept but stoked to try it. I dont know which skis I should put the bindings on. I have foils and scratch FSs, since the foils are stiffer, would I want to use those for the tele set up?

it depends on what you think you will be doing on them. if they are just an all mountain play around ski then i would say foils. either way it would be fine though. you will have a lot of fun no matter what.

You might want to start with the softer of the two. I decided to learn tele a few years ago and started on a friends setup of Invaders. They were really fun to learn on cause you use so many and different muscles for tele than alpine that the softer ski helped a lot to get the technique down. After that you should step up to the something stiffer as your progress, but Id certainly say go for the softer.

Might also want to check out telemarktips.com. Big tele site. Youll get good advice and info from there.

Use whatever suits how you're going tro be skiing. Forget that you're putting tele bindings on them. Sell the other pair.

not always true. however, there is truth to this. when your going to be starting out, learning tele turns and just skiing will be nicer on a softer pair of skis. but if you start to get good at it and start charging, youll most definitly want a stiff pair of skis, just like regular skiing.

for instance, i started on a pair of 179 pistols, and they were awesome for about the first year, but i got good fast, and the last several months id been using a pair of ANTs mounted tele at like -6 i think. totally awesome. so start softer and probably shorter, and if you feel like your going to get better, faster, etc, try a pair of longer, stiffer skis.any other questions pm me.
