Tecnica Cochise Boots

Hi All,

I have a pair of Cochise 130 (2020) boots. Didn’t realize when I purchased them that they’re tailored for a wider foot.

I added on a booster strap, which helped tighten up around the calf area and got a custom footbed (shimmed up too). However still having troubles where my foot is located (I’ve got a narrower foot). As such, I am wondering if anyone has ever moved their lower buckles before (drilled new holes and located further away from clasp for tighter fit)? Looking for some input. Not sure if this is the best of ideas… but is probably the last resort.

Former boot fitter here. You def did the right thing with the custom footbed, that will make any boot fit better. When you say "shimmed" did you put a shim under the footbed inside your liner? Bontex shims are a good choice to take up volume in the boot. Wondering if that was used. If you think of the boot like a pyramid, as you raise up the pyramid, all volume decreases.

As far as moving lower buckles over, that might cause more harm than good. What can happen is you end decreasing volume from the top-down, (instead of side-to-side), which can put serious pressure on your instep. If you have ever felt too much pressure on the instep, it's not fun. Your feet will fall asleep very quickly and it's just generally not comfortable.

Can you also explain in more detail when you say "trouble where foot is located" ? Do you just feel roomy in the forefoot area (place just behind your toes)? How does it feel in the ankle pocket? Also, what boot were you in before this?

I wouldn't say it's a particularly wide fit at all... Pretty average at worst. Certainly not wide. I had to give mine punches to the lateral side of the width, and my feet are generally not too wide. Perhaps your feet are just really narrow anyway.

How does it fit around your ankle? are you feeling contained there? If so, and you still feel like your foot is loose and moving around in the toebox, you could probably do with adding some foam material to take up width.

You'll want some squishy foam like what they make crocs out of. maybe an old, thin yoga mat. Youll want to cut a piece and adhere it to the outside of the liner so it sits between the liner and shell in the boot.

I would start from the big toe side of your foot - a patch of EVA foam placed square on the knuckle behind your big toe. If you need more, do the same with the knuckle outside of your little toe, perhaps just behind the knuckle.

If that works, it might make all the difference for now. Experiment a little, and if you still cant figure it out, sorry, but bootfitter

Sounds like you've got quite a bit of movement how many days do you have on them? First piece of advice I'd give you is to go see a reliable bootfitter and get a proper evaluation. It's tough to give you advice on here without checking out your foot. In the mean time I'd take the liner out to get an idea for the size. If you have more than an inch of space behind your heel with your toe slightly touching the front of the shell, it's too big.

Keep in mind that you don't want to rely on the buckles to secure your foot in place as this compresses and distorts the plastic from its natural shape. It's all about fit tension from from the boot being somewhat of a close match to the anatomical shape of your foot.

A temporary solution would be to patch up the liner with eva foam but eventually it will just pack out again. It's typically easier to make a small boot bigger compared to making a bigger boot smaller because the liner will always pack out to where the shell allows it.
