Tech or style?

Style for sure but some bigger tricks can be steezy like henrik harlaut's nose butter to dub flat in blackout

Well yeah, as far as competitions go spin to win will probably always win. But I'd say that style wins the favoritism of the core freeskier. For instance, I'd be willing to bet that the number of people re-watching x-games slopestyle runs is almost nothing compared to how many times kids re-watch b&e episodes every day. Sure huge spins bring home the big checks, but style wins the heart of skiers. And that, in my opinion, is much more significant.

skiing will never turn into aerials because the community wouldnt support it. For the last few years the focus has been on pushing the boundaries and trying to "catch up with snowboarding", but now that we have caught up, and in some cases even surpassed them, I think a focus on style is coming back. I'm starting to see more and more style oriented edits and threads, which are usually a really good indicator of whats to come.

and props to bishop for putting the thread back on track, but isnt NS hosting its own competition right now? you (NS) are one of the industry leaders and you have the power to influence the skiing community. if you want more style than make more style oriented contests.

yea I can agree with that for sure, a sick 5 or even a 7 IS more stylish than a dub cork. but I dont think we should eliminate the dubs ( or other more tech tricks) because then you lose versatility which is deff what keeps me entertained when I watch movies.

never played Amped2 couldn't say :P

I feel ashamed of myself for not thinking of this.

The current best skier contest is up to the community. Admittedly though I am opinionated on the style issue, I realize that the opinions of the community are bigger than my own. So that will be left up to you guys to decide.

HOWEVER.

STyle contest is a fucking EPIC idea. EPIC. EPIC EPIC EPIC>

On it. Will figure this out. Thanks for keeping me on track.

A REAL "King of Style" as everyone knows that style doesn't actually matter at the KOS event, it's just a name.

I think this is an awesome idea. It would be hard to get people to come to an event, so maybe just have people do video submission? It would not be hard to get pros in on this. Or maybe even just do a movie sort of thing, get footy from a bunch of different skiers and put it into a long edit. After that people could vote?

Anyways, could be cool.

If there ever was a style only contest, it would have to be on a replica of the channel gap made famous by MikD

what about if the atlhetes together talk before a comp and like "ok no doubles today and big spins , just style"" would be nice

The only thing that truly matters is the fact we are all out there having fun with are friends getting stoked on what ever happens wether it is style or tech or the biggest whipout we have ever seen. As long as we are experiencing and enjoying the pure bliss the sport is bring us it will always move in the right direction.

No, fuck you. There is absolutely no reason why you can't combine technicality and style. Get off of Henrik and Casabon's dick for a while and open your eyes and realize that there is more to skiing then presses, baggy clothes and Wu Tang.

So if I had a big air contest - and acutally to be fair this was done at the Triple Challenge at Blue Mountain a bunch of years ago...

Rules:

Big air contest where the format eliminates down to a good amount of people... say like 15 or so make the big air.

The contest is a 1 hour jam format with quick laps for the athletes.

Athletes are judged based on the following criteria:

-Only spins under 720 are allowed

-Variety of tricks weights score heavily

Bam.

Perfect contest.

Everything on the thread is directed to park. There is no right or wrong in skiing. Becoming a skier

You throw out the rule book all together. There are no boundaries. Like u can't tell me Sage and Seth JP Mike D don't have style or tech, in there own way they have way more than Tom wallish B dog and dumont will ever have and it goes the same the other way around skiing is just so diverse and unique to the individual who is doing it. It can't be judged in a specific way that is equal to all. The only thing we can do is fuel each other by doing what a is appealing to us. If we all did the same thing the sport would be nothing more than boring white paint on a wall...Tech or style it doesn't matter.
