Tech help please - video capture

Okay, here's the deal. I used my English teacher's setup to capture some clips from a VHS tape that I have. I captured them as AVI, dont remember frames/sec or anything like that. But the clips dont work for anyone when I upload them, so I tried to convert them to mpeg or wmv... I downloaded about three different media conversion things, but none of them could convert the clips, they all had some kind of funky error.

So what I'm wondering is... is there a codec or some special conversion program I can download to convert these files? Or should I try to recapture them in a different format?

Try opening them in adobe premiere, that works with just about any type of movie file you can think of. Then you can just use the save for web function to get them to a nice file size.
