For about a year and a half or so Ive been really into film and DV and all the jazz, the only problem is I dont know jack shit about all the technical stuff~ Ive been trying to learn the basics but its all scattered all over the place and I have no clue what anything means~ so I come here and ask someone to please explain to me what I should know~ ex: What should I have on a camera? Why? What does it do? I really want to learn it but I just need it broken down~ Maybe other people have questions to, I dunno~ I hope this goes well~ thanks

This is a really open-ended question.

Have anything more specific, and you should probably mention what kind of a camera you have, what you use to edit with, etc.

I actually have an SDR-s10~ its complete shit and no footage comes out the way I want it to~ to edit I use ulead video studio 7~ Like I said, i dont know much about anything

If you're looking for a camera but don't know too much, I would go to a bunch of stores, ask people questions, look at stuff, etc etc. Make sure the camera uses a recognizable file format. The camera I use now, as crap as it is, is a JVC Everio HDD, and it uses a "MOD" file which is some type of mpeg-2. Its taken me a loooong time to get it to work properly.

Once you have your camera, experiment. Try dolly shots, follow cam, different angles, read up on your settings, play around with them, and figure out what you can do. A tripod is not necessary, but it will help. I can make my hands damn steady when I want to lol.

Make sure that you have at least a decent editing program, such as final cut. Use your colour adjust settings, and if you have After Effects run your video through that to tweak it a bit.

I don't really know that much, but this is what I can offer you from experience.
