Tara Dakides in stable condition

Pro snowboarder Tara Dakides is in stable condition after missing the landing on the last of three jumps during the taping for the David Letterman show on the streets just outside the studio in NYC. The fall, approx 25 feet to flat, caused Tara to hit hard on the street below, where she was immediatly rushed to hospital after having her snowboard removed. Taping for the show was cancelled and a repeat episode was aired in its place. We wish Tara the best and hope she makes a fast and speedy recovery.

It was a U jump and she came down on an angle the third time. The rigs they build for those stunts are usually pretty dangerous anyway so you have to be very calculated. The Tony Hawk one was super hairy also.

 
i dont like snowboarders, but anytime someone is hurt it sucks, i wish her the best, and i hopoe she recovers

isn't a u jump sort of like a quarter pipe but u go off one side and there's a gap to the other... hard to explain i think i saw it in volume 9 or sm3

they just piss me off, hitting me, and sitting in the middle of the run, then they talk shit for no reason, thats my logic. If they dont talk shit and they are nice to me, then i dont ahve any problem.

Every one out there who says 'stop being a hater' I don't think I will. We (as a skiing community) don't owe them anything. Some people talk like skiing would have NEVER progressed the way it did with out them. Some of the most inovative, artistic, and revolutionary people in the whole world are a part of skiing.

someone in a different poast said 'they stole sliding down a hill with snow for fun from us'. I can't imagine that they are all bad people. BUT the vast majority of them ON THE HILL are jack asses. I don't respect someone who thinks they own the whole hill. Or someone who goes down a black taking all the moguls with them. They lay in the middle of the run and at in runs for jumps and (most of them) walk arround like punks.

Sorry guys, I agree with a lot of stuff that is said here but gaining anything from them or thinking they are cool for what they do is something you'll never see me doing.

SO I think I have been exposed to enough snowboarders to make an accurate judgement about most of them. And like I said from the beginning I think THE VAST MAJORITY of them are jackasses. Mow I know one or tow of them that are tollerable but like I also said we don't owe them anything.

Wow, I am alwasy suprised by the animosity. I thought we were all well past that by now.

People always list 'they think they own the hill' as a prime motivator for their hate of the other snow cultures. This is the most farcical and hypocritical reasoning ever. Everyone thinks they 'own the hill' you all do simply by saying stupid ignorant stuff like that. Elitism that is the word for it, you are of the frame of mind that your enjoyment takes precedence over the enjoyment of others, especially those who do not participate in your particular interest. All of you are the same people who for some strange and indecipherable reason believe that you never were a begginer, never poached a line, never showed disrespect to others.

Grow up.

None of this belongs to any of us, just remember that, the mountains only tolerate us, so learn to enjoy your time on the snow, and learn to respect others who enjoy their time on the snow, no matter what tool they use to do so.

We are all fortunate to be able to be here, so stop looking for fault in others, and start looking at ways in which you might learn from the different aspects of snowsports.

Or do you really believe that doing couloirs in jump turns was all that great?

 
there would not be terrain parks if it weren't for snowboarders. plain and simple. here's why:

snowboarders account for AT LEAST 75% of the people in the park (at least where i ski). resorts don't build terrain parks because they think a few people might have fun in them, they build terrain parks for PROFIT. newschoolers alone are not a big enough draw (i.e. wallet fattener) for resorts to spend millions of dollars on a park just so a few skiers can use them. sure a bunch of skiers would have the idea of hitting jumps and halfpipe (shit i was grabbing my skis eight years ago - BECAUSE I SAW SNOWBOARDERS DO IT) if snowboarders were gone or never existed, no resorts would have terrain parks, because they would just lose their asses. just look at the ''parks'' in areas that still only allow skiers.....oh wait these areas DON'T HAVE PARKS because they don't allow snowboarders and building a park just for skiers would just put them out of business

um, yeah it does.....you think the snowmakers, cats, park crews, rails, and all that other shit doesn't cost money? PLUS the enormous water charges PLUS the huge insurance hikes you have to deal with becuase people are hucking their idiot selves off jumps way too big for them. i think copper spent $1.4 million on their park this year, and that's just one decent park, think about places like whis and mammoth that have multiple, sick ass parks

^actually, 4skizzle, building and maintaining QUALITY terrain parks, like the ones at Whistler or Mammoth, is extremely expensive. Example: 2 rails in the Whistler jib park, combined total of maybe 25 feet, plus the plywood or puckboard used underneath, cost approximately $2000. That doesn't include installation time, maintenance, manpower to put it all together, design time, etc. Don't even ask about the heli time required to FLY the wallride up into position on blackcomb. And you don't want to know what a Zaugg pipe dragon costs, because you'd cry.
