TANNER: The Jesus of the Super Pipe!!

After watching the Superpipe and reading other threads...Just wanted to bring some love to the man that OWNS the Pipe. He has the tech. He has the spins. He has the airs. He has the gold...again. I doubt we will ever see him again in the pipe. I hope not..

If we are to see the progression of SuperPipe/Freeskiing and bring it to the grandest scale; the Olympics...we need Tanner vs Simon. We need them to throw down like they did last night and show not only the awe struck tongue salivating pavlov crowd but all other pretending ankle nipping competitors where Superpipe is headed. Visionaries, seers, prophets...zealots...call them what you may..BUT the chorus of 'BULLSHIT' that welcomed Tanner at the bottom of the Pipe was unforgiveable.

What does this guy need to do to earn your affection? He must be Jesus and I'm not even religious...paving the way for everyone and not just his followers ...but paving the way for all haters also. Man, he gives you year after year of progression, of HIS progression in the Pipe and you crucify him. Not only this year, but every fucking year!!! He gives you creativity and you mock him. He gives you vision and you blind him with deafening rounds of boos.

As I watched him, somberly and expression less on the podium accepting his medal...I kept thinking to myself, I doubt we'll ever see him again. I doubt we'll see the Jordan of skiis, the Ali of skiis, the Tiger of skiis in the pipe again....

...no the Jesus of skiis has left the building.

and leaves it only to us, admirers, true followers of Freeskiing, to wonder...???

Will Tanner rise again?

 
wow that made a lot of sense, actually, comparing him to Jesus. I think he'll start doing really well in filming and such, rather than pipe. But I agree, he should come back next year just for this comp. I'd rather see him in the backcountry with the likes of seth than him focusing all on the pipe scene.
 
hes amazing at pipe and probably at back country hes really good forsure

stop the hattin dont judge on his personality but on his riding level
 
Theres no way a professional athlete should feel bummed or ashamed climbing up to the podium and thats how Tanner felt. This is like the 4th or 5th time Ive said this in a thread but thank you Tanner for all that you have already given to the ski industry and with this guys talent I can't see it ending any time soon.
 
hall is good....but last night was the best ive ever seen him EVER.. He dominated pretty much. But usually hall is really ugly looking. i dont know why so many people think hes this GOD steeze master cause hes not at all(except last night). Last years pipe comp between tanner and dumont was a dumont definate win. He was soo gross last year i puked. Not to mention hes also extremely lameee which takes alot off for me. Dumont went through a phase........He use to be steeze master back in the days but then he sorta lost it. But know i think hes regained the steeze. I do agreee though with the judges that is run was better but hes just sooooo gayyy. I loved when he was teling simon what to do to be better ....what a jokeee
 
yea man. compare his reactions from last years winning to this yrs. he seemed bummed...

Wow if that is the correct quote......man I dont know what to think.

A couple of hours ago I posted saying even though I thought Simon's last run was better than Tanners 2nd, I think the way Tanner was skiing he would have still got gold if he had to do a 3rd run. Tanner was incredible last night. There was another thread shown the guys goin to the podium and I had a lot of respect for how Tanner handled the booing and the crappy situation.

But.........if thats what he said......hmmmmm that just nutz.
 
I watched it live and tanner told him that the only reason he won is because simon doesnt spin both ways

naa they didnt say that but what they actually said was still lame. Tanner was like..... "Man if you just added in a few more hits you would have won."
 
Well said. He definitely looked disappointed with the reaction.

I think he may have concluded that "The comp scene isn't for me anymore, im off to hit pow"..
 
yea i watched it live too - i wasnt really paying attn at this point though, but you SURE YOU COULD HEAR WHAT THEY SAID?

There's a part in Jon's video Superpipe blog where I think he's talking to his Mom and he's saying something to the effect of "..i do this and the crowd boos me..." or something like that...

Man...his Mom must have felt gutted to hear the boos from the crowd.
 
yea dude. wasnt it something like " theyre booing me after all ive done for the sport?" or some shit like that. definately would be hard to be him at that moment.
 
The reaction was bullshit. I felt really bad for him. That isn't what skiing should be about. What he said in the JO video was dead on.

Either way, congrats tanner. He is one of the best ever.

And if he wants to be done with comps, good for him. How much more can he prove?

Exactly. I think it would be better for him to go off on a high note rather than to come back next year and get 2nd

Although it would be amazing if he doesn't compete in anything else all year and then takes down Winter X Pipe 2009 haha

Sad to see that the crowd who BOOed Tanner last night...we'll be the same crowd who will CHEER the fucking "all new and innovative Double Front flip w/ no grab tonight!! Wow...genius....you guys fucking idiots..You guys are really digressing the sport by putting hate to the guy trying to progress it!

last night was the best tanner hall skiing i have ever seen. and yet people booed him. tanner hall is like a god. that win was the most amazing win ever.

I apologize if that is the undertone...lots of hate though in other threads towards the MAN and I wanted to qualify those who hate him for his performance last night and in the past equally with the Aspen dim wits who cheer for mediocrety and flash...

 
yeah i definitely agree with everything you just said

and for that picture, i doubt thats what tanner actually said, i thought tanner and simon were always good friends...and tanner doesnt seem like he'd do that

 
amennn to that. sucks for all of you who got tanner over dumont on fantasy freeride! cause tanner said he isnt diong any more comps this yr! unless it opens back up and you can swap..

to people who dont know anything about skiing, " DUMONT SHOULD HAVE WON" to people who realize technicality makes up for lack of amp (ie. spin left, right) TANNER takes it
 
tanner has dominated the comp scene for years now. he is a living legend.

i dig watching x games because it's when the best of the best throw down, but it is not what skiing is about. not even close. skiing is about having fun, and tanner was clearly having fun last night just skiing. that is until what i have to believe were a bunch of nonskiers, wannabe punk park rats or just plain assholes turned on him in that gross display of disrespect we all witnessed. well tanner, it sure was fun watching you blow up on the slopestyle courses then the pipes over the last six years or so, but this scene is behind you now. get back in the mountains and keep doing what you love. we'll keep watching you kill it on film for years to come. and congrats on the best pipe run i've ever seen.

oh, and nice work keeping your cool in the midst of the bullshit. you handled every aspect of last night's comp like a professional.
 
Tanner gave Simon a lot of respect in that interview, he should not even have to defend his run. He definitely handled it pretty well.
