Tanner is Right

1. Whoever says that truth comes out of alcohol is WRONG and never has been drunk. It's only impulsive and non thought sayings that come out. Proof is that when you're drunk and that you bring in a girl, and then the next morning you wake up and see how you wouldn't have brought her in if you were sober answers you on the question of "TRUTH & ALCOHOL".

2. Nobody can judge others on the concept of "TRUE" ski. When someone grabs his pair of skis, either towards the pipe, park or a virgin slope, it is skiing and nothing else. I just freeride but I would not criticize my buddies who shape a handrail.

I've always admired Tanner and I will continue to respect the man ! I remain convinced that he didn't think what he said.

He himself in an interview during the IF3 Film festival last year, saying:

"Let me define you what skiing is. Skiing is like my bro Harlaut said to me in NZ, it's F - U - N, it's just about fun and no mather how ever you do it."

So do not let me believe he has a negative point of view on his mates and with the sport he's always loved to do ... !

dude...everyone makes mistakes(especially when drunk), skiing is whatever you make of it...Tanner apologized and even tough for some "real skiing" is shredding big mountain lines, it's something completely different to others. Tanner understands that what he said was wrong; he was just a little bit drunk and was super stoked for the contest, i don't blame him for shit ! He openly apologized to some very good friends of him and thos who say that he was right are ignorant...
just think of what people considered "real skiing" in the seventies, and how it evolved till today...
here is some evidence to show that even monkeys do stuff they shouldn't have done...

I think it was Glenn Plake who once said that if you are not trying to progress, then WTF are you doing? I didn't ski rails for the longest time but then I realized if I wanted to be great, I would have to be great in the park too. I also decided I wouldn't make fun of anyone wearing a new school (purple?) designer ski suit until I could beat them at whatever they were doing.

So Tanner Halls latest Facebook status is "Getting ready for a graceful bow out" and that it's time for something new....

am i jumping the gun by thinking he may be about to hang up his boots from professional competetive skiing?

I definitely dont think that Tanner has to appologise when voicing his opinion. He has a right to his own views in this sport- as does everyone else.
But i also that that skiing is what you make of it and what you take from it. Whether you are the beginner out there doin your best, the gate raper, the x-country lover, the powder freak, the groomer lover or the park rat, They're all just different ways of skiing and people can take what they like and leave what they dislike. Easy as that.

This is STUPID. Skiing needs to be a diverse and free sport. Skiing huge lines in the BC, or sliding your friends backyard jib, its all SKIING! If the only type of skiing out there was riding lines and events like the linecatcher, our sport would not be at all dimensional. Same being said that if the only type of skiing was park and events like the x-games, our sport would be boring. We need to start accepting other types of skiers and skiing. Skiing is whatever you do when your sliding around with planks under your feet. Whether you choose to ski only park or only BC or a mix of both you are a skier, and anyone who disses on your decision to ski the way you want is holding our sport back.
I mean shit, look at other sports like snowboarding. If lucas magoon spent half his time in the BC, he wouldn't be putting out the most ridiculous urban segments. Same being said for Jeremy Jones riding big lines... thank god he puts so much into that and not riding park cause he has become an insane big mountain rider. I mean if Tom Wallisch spent the last few years trying to a really good all around rider, he wouldn't be the best park/urban skier in the world. Same with Seth Morisson, If he spent his time trying to be well rounded by skiing park too, he wouldn't be as good.. and as insane of a big mountain rider.
My point being, ski how YOU want to ski. Do not tell others their skiing is wrong or "not real skiing". Its all skiing, and its all about fun. Respect dumont for being the best pipe skier, respect wallisch for being a park skier, morrisson for being crazy on the big mountain, sammy for killing a little bit of everything. And thank god they specialize in different areas, because if they didn't our sport wouldn't be where it is today.

This. Although linecatcher is a sick event and throwing tricks off of cliffs is sick. Its not the future. Kids in the midwest arent going to be tricking off cliffs considering they dont have cliffs and pow. But they can push it on rails, and jumps , or moguls. Although some of what Tanner said is true this is not the future of skiing. Where can I go compete in Linecatcher or the Cold Rush. Oh wait they invite 15 people and those are the only events of the kind in the world.

just have fun and dont hate. do what ever you want to do. just dont give a fuck about what others say.

on a different note, many people also dont have the opportunity to ski big mountain.

I couldn't agree more.

In a nutshell: of course the rails, the pipe are "real skiing" too. But let's not forget about the fundamentals of our sport.

Why would a pioneer of park skiing claim that it isn't real skiing? That's just it-he didn't. Tanner wasn't "calling out" anybody. He didn't literally mean that park skiing wasn't actually skiing. He was simply stating that it takes more balls to ski a line than it does to throw down in the park, which is undoubtedly true.

Get over yourselves and stop whining.

I would do some pow but I live in NY so how should I go about real skiing... o and go fuck yourself if you have two skis on your feet and are moving I would call it skiing
