Call him immature or make fun of the way he talks, but either way he's the fucking SKI BOSS and deserves some respect for everything he has done and continues to do for our sport. My point is that, while Tanner deserves credit, there are other skiers that I support more strongly because they seem to be more of a complete package, a quality person and skier.

It's pathetic that the "freeski community" is constantly yearning for widespread acceptance. Who gives a fuck "how Tanner represents the sport". I don't remember him, or anyone for that matter, proclaiming to speak for the entire ski community or signing up to be the posterchild for how skiers are supposed to carry themselves or behave. Pretty sure he gravitated to the sport for the same reasons—ostensibly—that we all do; to have fun.
Obviously, individual sponsors have the right to hold athletes representing their company to certain standards of behavior and conduct, but that's a contractual issue undertaken by two willing parties. Just because Tanner, or whomever else, happens to be an amazing skier with the ability to earn a living doing it, that doesn't mean he enters into an implicit agreement with everyone who identifies as a freeskier that he'll act a certain way for the sake of the larger community. It's a fucking joke. That'd be like playing the guitar and ranting that Keith Richards is sending a bad message to the world about guitar players.
Professional skiers shouldn't have to surrender their identity and conform to some random dipshit on the internet's personal code of morals and ethics. Truthfully, I don't give a fuck about Tanner personally (though I respect his skiing and contribution to the sport), and neither should anyone else who doesn't personally have to deal with the guy day to day and face to face. Appreciate his skiing (or don't) and his place in the pantheon of great progressive skiers, and don't fucking worry about how he conducts himself personally, or even in the media. No one is standing behind you in the liftline and thinking "oh man...he's one of those there twintippers guys. He's probably just like that Tanner feller doing the pot!". And, if there is someone doing that, we just call them assholes and dismiss them all together.
Skiing is not a non-profit org trying to persuade the public to donate to the cause of saving starving children and Tanner isn't on the board of directors caught in a sex scandal hurting our credibility with prospective donors.
He's just a dude who fucking plays in the mountains with sticks on his feet for fuck's sake.
