Tanner Hall Quits Competing

i know this is going to gey hate but, im glad tanner ia giving up on competeting. last year he was all "uh look ay me i can make a comrback and rip it up i still got it." I am glad he has acknowledged the fact he can't keep up and move on to projects. His segments will still be sick
 
This!I was going to post and say that I would be stoked to see Tanner win the Olympics although I know he didn't get on the team. But I'm waaay more stoked on seeing Tanner ripping some Insane creative BC and AK shit!
 
Its a moot point now, but I always wondered if Tanner invested in Jamaican property to somehow secure Jamaican citizenship if the USA team was not a reachable goal for him. He and Errol Kerr would have been the Jamaican ski contingent at Sochi. Look at the story on freeskier about the kid representing the Virgin Islands. Its not a far-fetched concept. I understand that technically, recognition from a national team is not required to qualify for the olympics. I also understand absolutely nothing about the Jamaican citizenship process. But the idea of Tanner showing up in Sochi under a Jamaican flag never seemed all that absurd to me. I am probably dead wrong and missing a key element of the qualification process, but could someone who actually understands the qualification requirements say, with 100% certainty, that Tanner could not represent Jamaica at Sochi? Bishop, want to take a stab at that one?
 
I can't wait to see the segment he puts together now that he is putting all his energy into that. Go Tanner!

but honestly i was really disappointed that as usual Tanner feels he needs to justify his actions.

He competed and had his time, don't take that away from those succeeding today is a different contest atmosphere.

Style and single flips isn't what pipe is about now and that sucks to say David and torin are throwing back to back left and right dubs and joffrey pollet villard goes 1000 feet in the air and has the best style but he can't make podium. Backcountry nobody gives a shit what you do.
 
One thing he didn't mention there is how shitty the US ski team is with the CEO raking in a $100k plus salary while half the team members need to call philanthropists once a month and literally beg for money to get to the comps over seas.

Long story short, yes you can do it and it mostly depends on how easy the country you want to compete for is willing to work with you. And considering Jamaica is country that normally allows dual citizenship w/ as a US national, in theory Tanner could maybe pull this off if he wanted too(which would be fucking awesome).

Pouting would fall under the terms of "I should be going and not him." Since when is throwing in the towel pouting? Who cares, when everyone is in their super olympic comp no fun zone state of mind, he'll be out smashing pillows enjoying life.
 
Also, making the olympic team has nothing to do with going to the olympics. That just means you get some government support to help you on your path.

You can completely independently qualify all on your own.

Word and there is another hundred missing from the list...I thinks its most positive than Hall quit competing. He stomps it in films these days like no other. Its right where he belongs and I love watching it.

Tuffy and Cusson were most sick. Believe it or not even Tanner looked up to these old boys.
 
People are losing touch of what skiing really is about with all this Olympic craziness. I'm sick of hearing people call skies quitters because they don't agree with Olympic scene. Just go out and ski.
 
I have not hate for Tanner. He has done so much for the sport and he is one of the most talented skiers ever. He has dominated almost every discipline. However, I think its pretty clear that he had no chance of a podium at the Olympics. Things have progressed so much since his days of pipe domination. Its a young mans game. No matter how determined and how talented its just to much to overcome.

I personally think this had way more to do with his decision to stop competing then he would admit. If he could win I think he would still be competing. Nobody wants to admit that they are past their prime. Thankfully he is not past his prime outside of competing in pipe and park. I look forward to watching him push things in this direction. It would just be cool if he was man enough to admit this.
 
I wish you were man enough to admit he owes you NOTHING. With attitudes like this it's no wonder he wants nothing to do with the scene- fuck what the world has to say I'm just glad he's off doing shit that makes him happy. He's spent his whole adult life in front of a camera and the man wants a fucking break. Respect that and keep your "I wish he was man enough" bullshit to yourself. .
 
What bishop said about what would we get out of him competings agreat point. The only reason people really compete is to be the best at one level or another. Even though the Olympics is the highest level of competition a few years ago it wasn't, xgames was and tanner fucking dominated. Olympics or not tanner stood on the proper podium to be as to say today I the best out. Which makes it all seem like a joke because then u realize all the best skiers legacies aren't from comps they're from all the sick content they put out doing new things that changed the game like sw 9ing fucking chads gap.
 
i feel like people are forgetting why this is a big thing. tanner isnt just a crazy rasta skier, or the guy who did chads gap, or an old park skier.tanner fucking hall was at the top of the freeskiing game in 2 disciplines for 10 years. he holds the current record for 7 winter x-games gold medals. just look at his fucking career highlights on the armada site. its fucking huge. and filled with firsts and golds. and he still won the halfpipe Freeski Open NZ last year. tanner hall retiring is the end of an era for slopestyle and pipe. and tanner is one of the reasons freestyle is in the olympics now. not sure right now but tanner is probably, if not, the most decorated skier in freestyle. lets hope he keeps killing it in the backcountry.

Props to him. His body is getting worn down, it happens in every sport. Tanner, if you see this, mad props to you, put something sicker than ever out, and show people comps arent everything! One love.
 
Tanner has quite possibly the best comp results in the history of free-skiing. Being that many years deep as a professional skier and its impressive how passionate he is about free-skiing. If they had pipe in the Olympics in Vancouver 4 years ago I'm pretty sure he'd be sitting at the top. Props!

Could Tanner make the team if he tried? Probably. Could he get on the medal podium? Sounds tough

Olympics take a lot of commitment and training though. At his age, why spend all that time on something that will take all that commitment when everybody you will be competing with is so much younger, and for him he only has a reputation to lose. He's proven himself before. So what if he's older. Some of you talk like he sucks just because of quitting

Like someone earlier said, think of the list of people who made skiing great. I saw Candide wasn't on that list, and I can't think of anyone who should be on there more. Let Tanner make magic in the BC.

Pretty shitty how Tanner Hall ruined his image within the last few years. I guess he was always sort of outta hand, but lately he's smoked himself retarded and is putting down whatever areas of the sport that he can't keep up with anymore.
 
Tanner is a great skier and an absolute legend...

But his reign is over and he knows it. Just watch the interviews with him at x games he practically comes out and says hes done.
