Tanner Hall: Best Skier of the Times?

I don't think he is the best right now, seeing as he is coming back from a major injury. He is definetely one the most influential skiers ever though.

Shut up. The man has done more for skiing than you could ever dream of. Have some damn respect.

t halls a bad ass. If he grew up in times where people were doing dub corks, he'd be right up there with the best of em. He made our sport what it is, so I would still cal him one of the best skiers of the times. Although he's been injured a lot lately, there's not many others that can cover every aspect of skiing like Tanner did.

he hasn't had any more injuries than most other pros. its just that when he gets hurt he blows the fuck up in catastrophically huge crashes. No one else in skiing has come back from 2 of these kind of massive injuries

Tanner is one of the greatest skiers ever. Hes been through more shit that nobody on here could go through. 2 shattered ankles and 2 broken legs and 2 blown knees. The guys fucking unstoppable. Hes making the greatest comeback in skiing and possibly action sports ever. Hands down.

yeah but he is/has been insanely influential.. one of the premier guys raping park contests first, then the biggest movie star for a while, then became one of the biggest guys bringing tricks to the BC, and then took on pipe. dude's been everywhere and has influenced so many

I was laughing at the fact that u said he hasn't had more injuries than most pros, and in the same post, said no one has had massive injuries like he has. I am by no means a hater on t hall

I think that he is an amazing skier, and I think he deserves to be in the conversation of best freeskier of all time, but when it comes to bringing tricks to the bc, watch an old school msp movie, big mountain skiers have been throwing shit off of cliffs since way before twins were even on the market. I think he has been super influential in the park and pipe, but he was one of many guys who was throwning down in the bc. I do agree that he was one of the first park skiers to get out on to the huge mountains and throw down, but there were others, not to mention the big mtn guys like shane that were competeing in big air, and throwing down in the park. I guess i'm viewing skiing on a bigger scale than just throwing tricks

I do think he is one of the greats, but candide and jon are right there.... My personally opinion on the best of all time is candide.

well yeah sure, but he really led the charge in the most recent move to the BC. sure people took tricks to the BC before him but he was one of the first to bring this paradigm's (if you will) tricks to the BC. switch 9 on chad's, huge switch tricks and misties and corks in the middle of lines, he really led the charge in a lot of ways. to do that after killing the comp scene, then shutting up naysayers by slaying big lines, then coming back to pipe to remain one of the most consistent competitors out there.. not to mention being one of the biggest influences on today's top park skiers

^that is why is say I think he is one of the best, I guess we just have different views of the definition of influential

in my personal opinion... tanner is the best skier of all time.
kills it in comps.brought the tricks thrown in the park into the bc bigger and better before anyone elsehas come back from 2 major injuries and has still dominatedtruly innovative in tricks and style. (arguably the most influential freeskier or skier of all time)was killin urban way before the tom wallischs and lj's+so much moreand did all of it while partying and smoking non stop...
even if you dont like him, show some respect because tanner is a legend.

who is the first member of ns?
how do you get to chads from the bottom of alta?
what is Heath's first name?
Those are super easy questions that you should be able to answer if your statement is true.

candide has only had 1 catostrophic crash, and it still wasnt as gnarly as either of tanner crashes. the only crashes that come to mind that are comparable are:

- dumonts overshoot. similar to tanners, both dropped 50+ feet to completely flat, totally over shooting the landing and nearly dieing.

-mike wilson undershoot. this is the worst crash ever, 70mph to 0mph instantly

-derek spong undershoot. so gnarley dude tore an aortal valve off his heart, among other internal injuries.

candide, just happened to come up short falling from 30-40 ft to flat, and again has only really had that 1 career threatening injury.

Tanner was the best before he switched over the big mountain. Its frustrating to see so many good riders got to big mountain, then disappear into ski marketing

Now before I post I will say that I am a Tanner fan.

But

1) he needs to shut his mouth every now and then. I remember a thread on him hating on doubles and how they are wrong from the sport.

2) he left slope after he got beat, left pipe after he got beat. First it was pipe is the future of skiing and then now its big mtn. After he gets beat he moves on but then bashed the events he left.

Or, he dominated slope then dipped, and now slayed and continues to slay pipe, but has realized over the years that he has turned into a pipe jock and has been trying to spend more time getting back to the most legit form of freeskiing, backcountry.

i dont think its any question that derek's injury was the most gnarly, dumont's isnt even in the picture if you ask me. i was just saying candide's comeback from a potential career ender has been unprecedented, with the way he's dominating a new comp circuit that he never even rode in before

Dude, Candide almost got paralysed after his crash.. I mean he undershooted the biggest park jump ever build, a jump that NOBODY cleared. He broke his back and you're saying his crash wasn't as gnarly as tanner's ? Please come back to earth.

Then he comes back and wins Linecatcher and the World Freeride Tour like it's nobody's business plus he gave us 2 of the most amazing edits ever done with his Kamera's.

Candide is a level ahead of tanner if you ask me..

1) whatever, he speaks his mind. he's wrong a lot of the time and right a lot of the time. he can have his opinion and it's actually pretty cool he speaks his mind on here and stuff. remember when he beat simon that year and people threw snowballs at him during his run cause they thought he shouldnt have won and NS defended his win en masse, then he came on and thanked everyone? remember when he made that post to jon brogan about how stoked he is on his style and what he's doing? you just don't see that from other sports' stars. that is very cool

2) he owned slope and big air for years, and owned pipe for years. and has moved in a, dare i say, natural direction to the BC. he also was pushing the envelope on rails a while back (first sw450-270 ive seen, first switch 630 on, some of the first 270s onto legit rails etc). if you had been destroying your body on icy jumps and rails for years i think you'd be okay with shredding pow more often too

just sayin. you dont need to like him or idolize him, but you "have to" respect what he's done for the sport and what a force he's been

Yo his statement is most likely to be true. He wasnt hating he was stating something. There is no doubt in anyones mind that tanner hall helped bring skiing to wear it is.

naw i was just messing around, he DID break his legs haha. i was referring to when he first started skiing again and obviously could only slide rails straight etc. just a joke. i'll make it more obvious next time haha

Does anyone else see the irony in the statement "No one else has had as many or as bad as wrecks as Tanner" I mean seriously if hes blowing up this much he must be doing it wrong....
O and I'm not a t hall fan... Candide is the best
