Tanner Hall: Best Skier of the Times?

tanner is one of the most well rounded skiers of our time, but now i think he is taking steps towards not being the very best and winning all the events - but more towards progressing our sport in different ways through media and spreading skiing culture. Thats the next frontier for our sport, its been around for thousands of years - and it sure as hell will be around for thousands more as long as there is snow on the ground. we just have to use our resources to bring it to the next level in new ways, and thats what tanner is trying to do. he might not be the best, but he is arguably the most influential.
 
not to get on your case but really? you do know he landed several switch 9s over chad's before crashing there right? and then the other crash was just a huge overshoot on a really weird jump. if what you take out of those two crashes out of the ~decade he's been one of the best in our sport that he's "doing it wrong"... you crazy

i can't think of anyone who would be a better fit for the title "Best Skier of the Times" really though, bad grammar aside, he really is. i'm not gonna type it out because its too much to say, but watch out kids, t's back like a lion!

tanner's had the same mentality his whole life, skiing aside, if you don't like it he doesn't give a shit. Without his mentality he wouldn't have made it in the ski industry. T hall is a perfect example of someone who envisioned being the best from when he was a kid and kept the same mentality until he put his visions to reality.

for any haters out there, watch like a lion. you'll realize how much of an entrepreneur t hall was for skiing.
 
I hate to say it but "This". Go watch like a lion. It will change your whole perspective on Tanner. Like him or hate him, Without his presence, skiing would not be the same.
 
no your wrong skiing would still be somewhat the same. yea someone else would of won and quit from the xgames but skiing would actually change if someone like Shane or CR didnt ski. they actually made a impact on the community. tanner just thinks hes hot shit.

Tanner was one of the first people to take progressive park skiing tricks into the backcountry. He was one of the first people to throw and stomp monster misty 7's and cork 9 tails off of BC booters. Go watch teddy bear crisis and you will understand what I am saying. I wasn't saying that Tanner did more than CR or shane. He helped revolutionize and innovate the sport along side CR and Shane. They are all freeskiing legends. Its my opinion. You don't have to agree with it.
 
Shane defiantly made a big change in the sport. No offence to C.R he helped bring the sport to new levels as well but what did he do that was more than tanner. They were best friends who had almost career ending injuries they both took their tricks into the backcountry before many others did.

I saw an interview of Tanner awhile ago somewhere. and he was just talking about his injury and how the doctors told him, again, that he would never ski again. But now he is back again.

im pretty stoked to see him ride this year. I heard that he is post to come back bigger then ever! whether thats true or not, we'll see :)

and yea tanner did help revolutionize the sport but ever since i saw him hit chads gap and his REAL mountains rant i just dont look at him the same way
 
Although he isnt up with the pros now because of his injury, he is defiantly up there with the best of his generation. He alone progressed the sport more than almost any other skier. Hes segments were way before his time, and he brought so much to the sport. So I would add one of the most influential (as said before) on top of best.

Anyone saying anything bad about Tanner's skiing knows nothing about skiing and has no respect for the man who paved the way for the rest of us. Gad damn...
 
One of the founders of free skiing. He is skiings idol and i think that he always should be! But the best right now? Hes just comming back no way? Im sure he will be killing it hard real soon though!

I do think Tanner is one of the best all-around. He really is a great skier, and he has become a terrific big mountain skier.

I would personally vote for Windstedt, Sage, Hoji, Abma, or Candide above Tanner, but he is definitely a great skier. I really hope he comes back strong.
 
not true. putting aside these douche/trolll kids who think they are funny... i think whether you like him or not, most people truly respect tanner and his accomplishments/what he did for skiing are undeniable.
 
hes deffiently not the best atm, but if u say his whole skiing carear compared to others i would say yes!
 
Some people are so ignorant. Who gives a fuck whether or not you like Tanner, its not about that. Its about everything he's done for our sport, and you can't deny that. Tanner is a legend.
 
So T lost xgames once, no wait make that a few times! In terms of comp results, influence on the sport as a whole, ability (all-around), T-Hall takes the cake. Yes, he's the best skier of the times.
 
Him too. Both were just inspiring to say the least. When I first saw CR's seven sunny days segment, I got a bit teary eyed.
 
Here is my take:

we could sit debating on who the best is but in reality there is a class of skier that Tanner, CR, Shane, Doug Coombs,Candide, and others are a part of they are the legends of the sport. There is really no reason to bash on any one of them. I do not think any of them see themselves above the rest and i don't see why we should. GO SKIING!!
 
are you kidding.... just saw that you said that. CRJ had to re learn EVERYTHING he had to re learn how to pick up a glass of water and drink. hold a ski pole. he is the essence of unstoppable. put that guy in a coma and hell be back skiing. it was a sad day when he passed...RIP CRJ
 
Tanner pretty much dominated during the first two generations of our sport, and remained a top player in the third until his last injury.

Tanner hall is a true legend. He is for park and pipe skiing what Coombs was for ski mountaineering or what McConkey was for big mountain skiing.
