any1 ever see this with rick mercer its pretty funny rick mercder sjut goes around showing how stupid americans are convincing them that we jsut got r first university ever we jsut got r second area code and we run on a 20 hour clock

i agree that it is funny, but those movies are so biased and fake it is not even funny. He propably went up to a shit load of people and he only shows the ones that were stupid. I guarantee that you could go to any country and do that.

it was just on tv, the best is when he says that canadian minutes are longer than american, so we're on the 20 hour clock. therefore should we switch to 24 hour clock?

ya aha i like we r finally giving up the union jack as r flag we r deciding between a hockey puck and a moose head for r new flag

ya its so funny. one time he convinced them that our parliament is a giant igloo and cause of global warming there putting a dome over it. and then they were like yay canada for putting a dome over your igloo

I dont know did you check out the thread....It took me a few times to decipher the code language (lack of grammatical abilities)

Yeah this can be done in all countries. I do admit it's funny the reactions of the people. It's only when people take this as a generalization of all Americans do I get amazingly insulted.

i agree that its not fair that people think of americans as dumb, and that could be done in any country, but the sad part is that in our news and on tv and in our schools we learn and hear about the us, but when you head to the states you hear very little about any other counrty. I have family and friends that are american and live in the states and they hear very little about world news unless they go on the internet

Well yeah it's because of the times our country is in right now. We are very invovled with ourselves and our government. This is because we are at a state of war and major changes so stuff about countries that are not included with who we are having issues with right now aren't included as much into the daily news broadcasts. It's sad but our news is very, very, very biased in many ways and there's nothing really we can do about that.

It could be because America is a much bigger country(area). The size of european countries is kinda like the different states, in the states we here allot about different states in the country. This could be it

hate to break it to you bro but america is smaller than canada, and we still manage to hear about things going on from all over the country and things in the us and the rest of the world

i think he means that Canada has 14 provinces and the USA has 50 states, plus the guy was just coming up with a theory

Totally agree...he probably went to a generally dumb area too. It's pathetic how much people don't know about history or the world today.

I'm American, from Vermont. I Love the Mercer report, watch it pretty frequently, but I really don't like how everybody from Canada that's bashing America thinks that everybody from the US is as dumb as you think.

because of the fact that they have such a drastic advantage with population. Overall the US probably is better, but you can't compare because of the population difference and financial difference.

I saw on the news that 6 out of 10 Americans can't point out Iraq on a map. I think we're getting stupider.

The study may've been bad, but its not the first to suggest that Americans are geography retards... 6 in 10 sounds extreme but i bet the real number is still pretty pathetic.

ahahaha americans are dumb muther fuckers!!!! and dont say its biased you dumb ass, he wnet to harvard for god sakes and talked to a proffesor, and ure president thought or priministers name was Jean Poutine?! americans are fuckin stupid and self absorbed

heres my repeated example of talking to canadians. this is something that happened to me probably more than 10 times while in BC a couple years ago.

me-"hi, im mark. hows it going?"

canadian-"pretty good, where you from?"

me-"oh, im from california. im really enjoying living in bc though. its gorgeous here"

canadian-"you know we won the war of 1812 right?"

me-"coulda sworn that war was against the british... wait, how did we get on this topic?"

canadian-"we won the war of 1812. burned your capitol to the ground!"

me-"bro... canada wasnt even a country for a good fifty after that war was over..."

canadian-"yeah, well,we won the war of 1812!"

me-"uh....i gotta go..."

doesnt matter. its not about the best your country produces, its the average. america does produce some of the best eductation, just like it produces some of the most succesful people and corporations, but the huge rich/poor disparity means the average is pretty poor. skiing is a rich persons sport so i wouldnt expect many people here to be part of or identify with the ignorant american lower class but it is large and it exists.

and rick mercer is hilarious. i met him once and he is fuckin tiny. you really cant tell on tv how short he is.

name one that has effected 50% of americans to come out of an american university.

i love that segment, and im from the US, but i live in VT, which is Bush's metaphorical disapointment of a child.

we could do the SAME thing in france. i mean exact same. there are idiots in every single nation in the world. americans only get more credit.

How dare you have the arrogence to compare me to George Bush. Harvard is the finest academic institution in the world, hands down. Thats fine if you want to call Americans ignorent and stupid, you're the one telling your largest trading partner to fuck off. Don't you understand that 1/4 of Canada's national annual revenue comes from directly from the pockets of Americans? We are not stupid, we are not ignorent, and we do have the finest higher education system in the world, so dont make your judgments so quickly about a large group of people you sound...dare i say it...AMERICAN.

you know u say that but what proof do u have? did u know all americans pick there ass?everyone belive it cuz i said it

dude we were part of the brisitsh empire, its not like they sent boat loads of british over here to fight for us it was Canadians, the ppl who lived here that fought with the indians against the self absorbed americans.

and this is what happenes when i go the the US

me: where might i find a bathroom in here?

American: y'all from canada

me: ya

American: which state u from?

me: we dont have states up there

Amerian: I CAUGHT A TALIBAN

me: What are you talking about

american: u retard they have 12 states in canada everyone knows that... I THINK ITS OSAMA!!

Just because you have harvard in your country does not mean you have a better education system, for numerous reasons... namely, you can get a (usually considerably superior) education living in social-democratic countries like Canada for a mere fraction of the cost, ie, less than $8000 annually in tuition (that's overstating, I pay under 6) for schools ranked higher than Brown university, for example. U of T is 23rd globally. Is it Harvard? No. Can you afford to go to Harvard? I doubt it. Not to mention the fact that a large proportion of students and faculty in the upper echelon of American universities are international ones, nor the fact that a huge proportion of the population doesn't go to post-secondary at all, and the vast majority of those who do go to schools that don't really compare favourably with the rest of the world.

PS - The point of Talking to Americans doesn't seem to be that Americans are all a bunch of idiots, in fact the sample points more to the idea that they're clueless about anything that takes place outside their own borders and are willing to believe anything an intellectual authority figure (even a questionable one like a reporter) tells them. But even that is a stretch. I think the point of the show is that it's hilarious that ANYONE could believe the crap he tells them.

dude i wasnt kidding and you also proved my point americans are idiots it wasnt jst britian fighting in the war of 1812

HAHA, you do make me laugh...

And how much would a Harvard Education cost you then?? More than $20 000 a year? Thats such brilliant value!!!

I hate to brag, but the educational system in the UK is just as good if not better than the USA. My (scholarship) tuition fees at Oxford are less than £1000/ year, and even those that have to pay fully its £3000.

To paraphrase Road Trip, your views are doubtlessly based on the fact that you have never been anywhere else...

well it sure as hell wasnt canadians. maybe some indians and some frenchies in there somewhere, but no canadians. unless you want to tell me that you dont know the date your country was born. if you want to continue to dispute this, then have a good time.

bottom line here is that im right, and youre still going to try and argue with me. which is sort of funny. you funny little guy.

and im pretty sure that no one has ever called you 'taliban'or 'osama' for being a canadian.
