Talib Kweli has officially turned gay

Yes, agreed. I stopped liking him a while ago.

NS has become the official gathering of the world's dumbest people.

Scratch174, thank you.

how has he turned gay? cause he has a video that gets playtime on tv now? its unfortunate cause is one of the worst on that album though.

I don't see anywhere on the site that it says he's homosexual. Care to fill me in on this, cause I'm pretty sure he's still with his wife, and they have a couple kids.

never insult talib. hes so fresh. i love him. he really really is good and shouldnt be insulted. i like rap/hip hop. and talib is right in my style. if you want to hate on a gay rapper pick someone else like nitty or something.

first of all Talib is not "so fresh" actually he hasn't been fresh for a while. I don't mind some of Talib's shit but people worship him as some genius who is going where no man has ever gone before. Anyone who has ever seen Talib in concert knows is completely lack of ability to put on a somewhat decent show.

i saw him live and i thought the show was pretty sick. it was a real small crowd and he really got everybody involved. he threw in a little freestyling too, which was pretty cool.

blackstar is such an incredible cd. its... its just so dammmnnn good. i mean i like jedi mind tricks, but if you were to compare the two, jedi mind gets blown out of the water. and i have no idea why i compared the two either, but i did.

Did Talib sign onto a new label before he made the beautiful struggle? Because trying to make more money and become well known can have side effects of people calling you gay.

Pretty much Blackstar and Reflection Eternal can be included in top 5 albums.

if you dont think kweli has gone down hill, then you dont know shit about his music and hip hop in general. i try is so dissapointing. oh and the rest of the album. i dont think quality is bad tho^

You will always be in my heart Nantucket

Listen kids, that era of hip hop rawkus/black star/reflection/kweli/mos is done its played out, it stoped progressing. And this decline can be traced in a parrallel path with kanyes ascent to fame. think about it from the blueprint all, its all been garbage

ya c-lo im callin bullshit on that one.

talib realized he needed to make money to live once his rap career ends (very soon) so he makes commercial rap now.. not a bad thing, just not what true hip hop fans want to hear.

and kanye is one of the best producers in hip hop history..to argue that is just wrong.

G R I P S E T

and kanye has nothing to do with the downfall of kweli...maybe the fact that he stopped using hi-tek every beat and that whole feel that made kweli sound so good..but not kanye.

Commons new cd is all kanye except two tracks by dilla and that cd is still real nice.

talib is the man just think back to the song from pollards seg in rfa soo good

-keegan mcginnis, newschoolers.com

you havent heard his new cd. its not as bad as everybdoy thinks in my opinion. you guys cant think that it would be easy to make the same callaber cd as reflection eternal 3 cds in a row though. im sorry but thats just not going to happen

Now the problem with our world, the lack of respect.

For our earth, for our children, for the future we neglect, for the words, for the values, for the god we select.

Millions die everyday withough a cause to effect.

the newest cd was okay, definately not my favorite of his. i really liked the first track, thought the rest of the cd was gonna be just as sick, but it kinda fell apart after that though. didnt kanye also produce get by? kweli getting back together with hi tek and the roots should be sick for sure.

That is probably the best news I have heard in a long time.

Black Star is mostly sick because of Mos Def though...

NS has become the official gathering of the world's dumbest people.

Alright fair enough reflection eternal is the exception to the rule. But Kanye is the embodiement of that genre of hip hop loosing all credability and soul. When Kweli and Rawkus where at their greatest it was so full of soul, passion, depth cultural relavence and feirceness. It was full of grace and tact. This was conscious shit rhymed for a desire for positive change. Now flash forward to this diamond wearing faggot hawking tapes off this image with oddasity(sp) to tittle a song diamonds from seirra leione and make not one refrence to the great injustice that tittle represents. And since the blueprint came out it marked a shift in production aesthetics. Soul samples are nothing new, popularized mostly by the rza they became the backdrop for east coast hip hop.Starting from queensbridge and the 41st side it expands to encompass both hardcore and backpackers. This production, in my opinion, is synonomous with a certain lyrical styling. A styling of hardcore with strong undertones of social consciousness and black nationalism.

Kanyewest began speeding these samples up and hence the Blueprint a solid album. But along with this production comes the theft of a certain genre of music. On this album jay z name checks malcolm x and rosa parks. He appears on the cover of the source wearing a che t shirt and several large expensive peices of jewlery. While I love Jay Z this is a display of pure ignorance and exactly why the overground should stop borrowing-because it looks rediculous, it doesn't fit, its devoid of all class and depth.

And increasingly after the blue print this type of rap made its way to the airway, watered down conscious shit which obbsesively name checks but holds no relavence. The lines between jay z and talib kweli continue to blur. Kanye west has been extremely active in this shift and has taking the exploitation of HER further than ever. The very fact that you can listen to YE shows me that you never liked kweli for his lyricism and ideas but for the fact he had a good voice and good production and he was acceptable for white folk to listen too. I'm sorry but Kanye West is a media whore, a sellout and an uncle tom negro. He has sold which is not his to sell and starts fights to which he has no claim. He needs to sit down and you need to spend some quality time with your headphones

peace

daaamn! you're a hip hop genius

i always said that talib was going downhill, i refused to believe it cause i wanted another album that was up to par with reflection eternal. if you listen to his cds in order that they came out you can DEFINATELY tell that they get worse. aah, i think i'm going to listen to reflection eternal

-Jeff

dont you think its possible to like certain artists for certain reasons? such as liking kanye for his beats and just vibe if your in the mood for it, and kweli if you want some "deep lyrics"? you dont really need to label something trash. no one was saying kanye's really underground or "true". just that hes good. being good doesnt mean you have to have gold lyrics. i mean look at del. "its important to practice good hygine, if you want to roll with my team" or whatever it is. thats not exactly representing the struggle of oppressed african americans, but somehow he escaped a post devoted to the frivolity of his lyrics. in my opinion, the beat of a song has alot to do with what makes it listenable. i think talib was and still is a good blend of these different sides. if kweli's next tracks are along the lines of what he added to kanye's, what's really wrong with that? tupac used to rap about the struggles of his life, and gets insane amounts of repsect for his deepness, but he also threw down a couple about rolling and partying with his bitches. do we condemn him? not usually. there is nothing really wrong with what you stated about kanye, except for the insults thrown in periodically, such as him being a "diamond wearing faggot".

Whoa whoa whoa, you need to pull back the throttle. Firstly, Del and Kanye? Your confused. There is no context to that argument. Its like comparing Jerry Rice and Kobe Bryant, wrong sport dipshit. Del is not a political rapper. Del is a classic four elements rapper, del is hip hop. Breed on battles, dj's, graf and breaking. Del has paid his dues and rolls with crews that just exude hip hop in the true school form. While YE may have been poor for a brief period in between being a suburban house negro to being a media whore; I would hardly say that he has paid his dues.

As for 'pac. Bitch please, could you be any more cliche? Do you want to discuss the injustice of mumia? How about ferinhite 911, great film huh? George bush sure is stupid. I like Lawrence Fishburns approach, he doesn't like 'pac and when asked why he responds "cause that nigga knew better". And yeah he says ignorant shit and thats his downfall. And everyone loves him because its so fucking taboo to say otherwise, especially for white boys.

And as for the "Diamond wearing faggot" remark you obviously don't know what the fuck is up. I got some time, your moms in the bathroom. So here it is. Sierra Leone is a country located in NW Africa. There has been a long standing civil war within Sierra Leone largely fueled be diamonds and Debeers in particular. The problem with this civil war is the implications for children. The use of childsoldiers is extremely wide spread. Children are kidnapped and pumped full of drugs and handed M1's. And in the fallout, they roam the country shooting merchants for food becaue this is their model of the world. Because life is worthless to them and this is how they feed themselves. And on top of this, you have the rape camps. Where young girls are kidnapped and raped repeatedly for months on end. Think of your mom, your sister, your gf, your best friend, your neice being stolen from you and raped everyday. Just "close your eyes and imagine" as Ye says, that shit happening to someone you love. And then think of that being you rmodel of the world, not sor the minority, for tens upon tens of thousand of kids. Think of the implications of the national psyche and the future. And that is reality in sierra leone.

And that, son, is why Kany West is a "diamond wearing faggot" because he has the nerve to name check sierra leone as a fashion statement, like "yeah i wear diamonds but i have a vague knowledge of that what i'm doing is immoral".He is that outa touch. He is an uncle tom negro and he's fucking with shit that means things to us (the REAL heads) things that keep us from sleep, things we pay 15 g's a year to study, things i give my life up to change. And what i'm saying is that while no one claimed Ye is real or underground or whatever, with his content hes stepping those lines, but only for the connotations of that sort of "rebel music". because its fashionable and cool to be somewhat conscious these days. While from the beggining we've been voluntering in food banks, putting ourlives on hold, alienating ourselves from our friends and family for our morals and hip hop has been the muse. And thats why you become a artist, because its all you got.

So I'm sorry to hate but you need to sit the fuck down because you need to aks someone. And its kids like you that make it hard for me to keep my head up at shows. So just stop, enjoy hip hop but realize you don't know shit so don't front, its fine, just don't front

you are a complete idiot. i know what sierra leone is. ive had a friend mission there. i knew everything you "told me". what the fuck is with you saing random shit about fahrenheit 911 and george bush? i dont even understand what you are saying. you arent even worth it. you make the shittiest arguements ever. political rapper? what the hell just take it as music. thats what it is. are you like a 14 year old kid who cant type and thinks hes got some connection to the street?

i am in no way street or ghetto, but i know that i like music for reasons other than what genre or message it conveys. take your own advice and just enjoy hip hop for what it is. obviously you dont because you take the time to completely hate on an artist because he is out doing his thing. i find it even hard to type to you because of the stupidity of what you say. something about 15g's a year and shit. what the fuck are you even saying. get your shit on order. dont just type paragraphs straight with no spelling it all that just ramble on. once you find out what you really want to say, think about it before you just put it all out there.

also vocabulary gets you no where if its used to back up a bullshit sentence. either does profanity, but hey im guilty.

and stop with the uncle tom reference. it doesnt make you sound remotly like you know what you are talking about. especially when you think it sounds so "cool"you need to say it in 2 posts.

Man fuck you. I tried to keep it civil but now its on.

You didn't make one intelligent argument to what I said. Grammer, sentence structure? Bitch please. This is a i net forum. Do I have some connection to the streets? Yeah I write, I dj and so do my friends, we break we rhyme, this is OUR culture. We've probably met all your heros (that includes ron jermey faggot). Have you ever met Kanye? I have. And thats how i base my opinion, because all he could talk about is "seriously though, i'm the hottest spitter out there".

And you gotta friend that volunteered in Sierra? Yeah thats nice, he obviously didn't see or experience shit. You know Romeo Delaire? Yeah me and Romeo is in cahoots and hes told me some tales. I was in Kigali for 5 months last year. Romeo has been in Sierra alot, I know what goes on. Currently, I'm 4 weeks away from a Human Rights Watch internship in Nepal. Like I Say, this is serious business. My life is all i have and i have given it to the struggle, i have broken off friends and family, dropped out of school to serve that.

Basically, your a mediocre human being you can't fuck with me/go play somewhere i'm busy.

You should be able to relate to that. But yo lets let the people decide

who served who doggs?"

and the winner is ............ c_lo

i didnt know we were going for a winner, i just wanted to understand what he was saying. how do you know what my friend saw in sierra? i wasnt really getting on you because of grammer, i just said with alot of you spelling i had no idea what you were saying. i dont actually care at all if you actually are really a hip hop mogul or whatever. i just had the statement that you shouldnt hate an artist for not being lyrically sound when hes got good beats. kanye is in no way a hero of mine. i like pretty much all kinds of music. i currently am part of a record label and did promotion/manageing for my friends bands. ive also been in 3 bands myself. what i know about music isnt probably the same as you. i just have different views. i dont hate artists, and get angry when other people do for just stupid reasons. who cares if he doesnt tell the struggles in sierra leone. what i like about hip hop is that there are no set boundaries for what an artist can do. he doesnt deserve to be called "an uncle tom negro" or a "diamond wearing faggot" just because his lyrics dont agree with you what think his lyrics should be.

talib has hit up shit with madlib, mf doom, jaydee, mos def, ghostface, common, and alot of other artist i respect and love and ya Kanye West!

yippie do da. Im not a fan at all of kayne rapping, but i can apprciate his musical talent when it comes to producing, and i can apprciate talib's skillz, and collabing with kayne, expanding his musical horizons.

If you think talib sucks, your an idiot. Keep your mind open. Some stuff is better than others, and in my books this cat has already proved himself.

yeah your right, sorry that kid was irratating me, it just dissapoints me that someone as talented as kweli has as shitty integrety as he does. And I don't buy the cross over nonsense, they are so many rappers just progressing the art who rep with tact, mf doom, j live, ghostface killah, little borther is a fucking wicked example, 9th wonder produces for jay z but knows where hes from and where his nut sack lies. I just think kweli really hasn't shown much class as of late....hes just dancing around like a fucking tard when hes capable of so much better, same with kanye he should fucking know better..niggas in blackface ..its no different thats some birth of a nation bullshit
