Taking dslr up the mountain

Going away next week and wanting to take my canon 550d up the mountain with me to get some shots, ive never done this before and i was wondering how people do it, how do you carry the camera when on the chairlift etc, thanks

There are some pretty specific photog oriented backpacks out there with padding and compartments set up specifically for cameras and lenses. I've never really used one so I can't recommend any from experience. I've seen them from Oakley for sure and I bet Dakine makes a good one as well.

im assuming you have a camera bag, so put that in a back pack

I have a camera bag that is weather proofed, its pretty bulky, but if i ride up a triple or quad lift with one less person than the capacity i can sit sorta sideways and itll just chill on my shoulder. If I really dont wanna do that ill just bring a camera on a tripod and no bag.

When you're just carrying it; put it in your backpack.

When you want to be shooting; leave the poles at the bottom and carry it around your neck so it's ready.

i just hold mine on the lift. and I use a camera bag inside of a backpack for transportation to and from the mountain.

Backpack or on your hand. Be careful and use a lens cap if you choose the latter.

Wow this is perfect that this thread just came up. I wanted to take my camera up to the mountain today, and I was wondering if I would be allowed to take random pictures of random people skiing, legally or not.

it shouldnt really be a big deal as long as your not like putting them in advertisements or something. if i were you i would just take pictures of my bros that i know and not just random people.

Alright sweet! Thanks for the help guys, didn't mean to threadjack or anything. I thought it was pretty relevant and not worthy of it's own thread so I just commented asking the question.

Someone said just take pictures of your bros, but I don't ski with anyone else so I just wondered if I could stand off to the side of a jump and just take pictures of some kids hitting it. So I guess that's a yes! Thanks again.

To the OP, if you have a camera bag, just put it in a backpack and hold it on your lap while you're on the lift. I have a camera bag-backpack that's really helpful. You could probably look around for one and it might make it a lot easier for you! Good luck! Oh and post some of the shots in M&A when you get back. I'd want to check them out!

If I'm going to be skiing in a backpack anyways and am only going to use 1 lens, then I usually just put the camera in a gallon ziplock back, then wrap it in my puffy coat or a sweatshirt and throw it in the pack. No problems in 2 seasons even in the pow

What about in the case of a minor, I though parental consent is needed before you can take photos of them? (Somebody told me this a while ago)
