Taking ADD meds to study when u don't have ADD

is there anything that can go wrong when taking ADD meds (vyvance) when you do not have ADD?

gotta study hard for testing this weekend

Go crazy. If you think your addicted then stop immediately. I have a script for add meds, but i only take them when I need them.

You should be fine but try not to go down the road of cheating to get through college. If you need that you probably shouldn't be at that school or major. At the end of the day I felt good knowing I did just as well as everyone else in my class who popped addy at the slightest whiff of a hard test. Believe in your abilities and study hard.

My old roommate took it to get ready for a test around haloween and spent two days putting together the best buzz lightyear costume I have ever seen

It seemed to help him focus, but he focused on the wrong thing and never did get around to studying

Focus early I guess, haha

idk why you would. I'm ADD and was on meds since 2nd grade. Stopped at whatever age but halfway junior year it dawned on me if I failed one more class I'd have to stay a whole extra semester. So I got my prescription and started taking it...had to smoke so much weed at the end of the night to come down.

Just study hard and focus. I'm sure I could have still made it with just the motivation, but I had to be sure. Hey and I lost like 15lbs in a year on it...

read holson's Adderall post.

honestly I would be careful, using an outside chemical to get results from your body regularly is dangerous. your body will stop naturally producing hormones and the only option you will have is to keep taking your pills to produce the hormones that your body is no longer producing for you. or it could be a slow process waiting for your body to start naturally producing them again when you stop taking the pill...

this should be common sense though, I'm sure you already know the dangers, so if the risk is worth the potential reward for you.....then whatever.

One time is whatever. Seriously you don't want to make a habit of it though. Addiction isn't something you want to deal with, trust me. Start studying sooner next time and work harder in class and on homework. When it's time to start studying for exams/ tests you'll be a lot more prepared if you do that.

As long as you don't get caught. I got caught on a school trip to spain, some bitch told the teachers. Got some serious consequences. The school threatened to report me for drug abuse, calling in the social service to check how I live and stuff. Luckily I got out clean, though the teachers lost a lot of respect for me. I took concerta, which is ritalin with anti-depressive. I dunno how it is in the U.S but apparently they can take it very serious here in Sweden. Be careful

I got a scrip freshman year in college and have taken various meds when I know I need to bring my A++ game. Its worked out well for me over the past 8 years.

Start with half doses and see how you react. If you can get by without using it, don't take it, but if you are really in a jam or are getting crushed by the workload, I don't see anything wrong with a little help.

The pills don't make u smarter, they just allow you to mentally perform at your peak when you normally wouldn't be able to.

Just remember its a crutch, so don't become a cripple with a cane and use it all the time.

I'm on vyvanse right now. Whats the dose for it? They go from 20-70mg. So I defs wouldnt start out with anything over 40. Also, the actual chemical that is going to help you is processed through your liver when the vyvanse is absorbed, so snorting it or anything wont help you. You just have to take it normally and ride it out.

The effects will last you about 10-14 hours and have some drops in the middle about every 3-5.

Watch out on the crash though. First night I was on vyvanse I felt like shit on the crash. It wasnt so much like body aches or anything but it definitely brought out my depression more and I felt super down for a few hours. It was pretty crazy, I went from fairly normal to suicidal in less than half an hour and slept it off and was fine by the morning

I personally wouldn't do it. No need to get addicted to something when you can focus on your own. This is coming from someone who took adderall for a good 9 or so years q

Doesn't matter though, you should still be able to get through it all on coffee

That's like comparing Tylenol to morphine.

Yes they have similarities, no they are not very comparable.

Yep, sounds like every single stimulant crash since, well, forever. That's what happens when you do real drugs. Gotta pay to play.

IMHO, stims fucking blow. You couldn't pay me to take Ritalin, addy, etc to study because the crash/come down sucks so fucking much.

I also have ADHD and take them regularly now though.

It was pretty much just my first crash that was bad, now it isnt as much.

But the effects that it has on me during the day and how much it helps clear my mind and keep me focused definitely outweighs the crash.

You have to be doing what you want to be focused on when you take them. I used them in moderation for last finals session because we were at the point where we had no other choice than to study like 20 hours a day. I definitely had more negative effects from all the caffeine pills I was taking. I'd recommend ADD pills as long as you keep em in moderation.

don't take them and browse facebook while they kick in, because you will be facebooking intensely for 5 hours

Its kinda fun when I get super focused on stupid shit though. Like with adhd I'm so used to not being able to concentrate on anything for longer than like half an hour and now when I take my meds I get shit done. I learned to play the ukulele one time because I saw it and had just taken my meds and got caught up

yeah, come to think of it, those come downs off of addys were horrendous, i would basically scramble to get all my work done before the afternoon because I knew I was gonna crash and not do shit.

honestly OP just work on channeling your focus naturally. if someone whos been taking these kinds of drugs like myself for my whole life can, you can too. i go back on concerta every now and then but i really try and focus on using my actual brain more.

I love the fact that there are people who reference the simpsons/futurama on this site. it makes my day

Ive used adderall a couple time throughout undergrad during my first 2 years and found that it helped me get better grades, but I realized part of it was a placebo effect since I was paying for it and felt that I had to get the most out of it. During my last 2 years of undergrad I stopped using them for much tougher upper level science courses and actually got better grades because I learned how to study more efficiently without medication. You really shouldnt have to resort to meds all the time for any undergrad course. Just discipline yourself a bit and youll do fine

Vyvanse specifically takes up to 2 hours to kick in. Its designed that way so people are less likely to abuse it. The chemical in the pill is broken down by your liver into the actual drug that helps with focus. So dont take a bunch more until you've waited long enough to be sure.

Years ago when I was taking it, my doctor paired it with abilify, which is a mood stabilizer. The proper combination really takes the edge off what is otherwise a pretty harsh stimulant. It also keeps you from crashing when it wears off. For me though after awhile I didn't like the concept of taking that much medication every day and I wasn't convinced it was doing me all that much good. I never thought it was hard to quit or that it was addictive at all. I think people get hooked on how it makes them feel and act and aren't necessarily chemically dependent.

There's kind of a grey area of who should be taking this medication. If you can't focus and are failing out of a class that you want to be in and can't really explain why, a lot of doctors would say that is a form of ADD/type 2 bipolar disorder and put you on meds to get you functioning like a normal person again. Depending on who you ask it is either hugely under prescribed or way over prescribed. Just make sure you are getting enough sleep and eating enough.

Just thought I would take a moment to post my favorite shirt.

OK, carry on.

we're a little pretentious now aren't we?

do you drink coffee? Drink alcohol? Smoke weed? Cause the people who don't, look down on you for your lack of energy/laziness, and inability to have fun without the use of drugs.

What im trying to say is, be happy for others successes. don't put them down in your mind just to make yourself feel better about your own accomplishments.

Zero respect for anyone who needs to take illegal prescription drugs just to study or do homework. Learning effective study and time management strategies will be much more beneficial for you in the long run.

you don't need a diagnosable illness to be able to drink coffee.

Heard that shit helps but I know a kid who has used it so much he can't concentrate without it... Moderate yourself mayne

so? its a drug that people use to enhance their cognitive performance. just because its not as strong and is widely available doesnt mean its not a stimulant.

But i guess because you use it, its totally fine to use....

I never said it wasn't a stimulant?

You can't honestly compare a coffee cup's worth of caffeine to prescription drugs like adderall or ritalin. Sure they're both metabolic stimulants but they are very different in terms of biological pathways and effectiveness. So many things are classified as stimulants, meth, molly, ecstasy, crack, etc.

ADD meds are prescribed to treat medical diseases. Caffeine helps people feel less sleepy.

Both are substances that people use to enhance their cognitive performance above normal levels. Why is one substance worse than the other?

Regardless, in the post i initially referenced, why do you feel the need to denigrate others accomplishments to enhance your own feeling of accomplishment? Be happy and proud that you earned great grades and a great degree. What do others have to do with that?

It sucks that you need to put down others in order to raise your own self worth.

One is a substance that enhances cognitive performance above people's baseline. The other is a substance that is designed to be used to enhance the cognitive performance of individuals with less than baseline cognition, i.e. people with a mental disorder like ADD, in order to get them up to the norm.

A healthy individual using a substance that mentally ill people use to be able to function normally with, to enhance their own cognitive performance is in my eyes cheating and I do look down upon cheating.

Coming down from addy's fucking blows but they help quite a bit with studying and general test/ homework performance. Also, if you smoke make sure to get whatever it is you smoke away from you so you can focus, you'll most likely crave tobacco.
