Tahoe

who in their right mind would go to the two flatest places in tahoe to ski powder. goto Kirkwood or Alpine or squaw
 
Sorry i forgot Heavenly because it is so shity, but yes it is in there in the flat resorts forshure.

Dimond Peak too.
 
IM assuming you cant ski the gondola line and the face north face of the mountain...legally? Im sure those trees are redick in deep snow.
 
uh the nevada side in the canyons is some pretty sick shit...i wouldnt count heavenly as flat...shitty maybe cause of all the gapers but flat...nah
 
Mott and kilebrew are pretty good, gunbarrel and the gondola line are ok but the rest of the hill is shit. plus it takes alot of snow to ride any of those spots. Then you add 30,000 euro's, japanese, and dumbshit's in jeans and sunglasses... fuck that!!!
 
heavenly is definitely not flat. if you know where to go to get away from the tourists it is a pretty sick mountain. back up in killebrew, like ramarrahs and outer limits. the promised lands are pretty sick in motts. maggie's canyon is fun too. heavenly has like 3500ft of vert.
 
Heavenly has 3500 if you go up a chair to go down. only on a flat mountain do you have to ride a chair up to finish your vert drop.
 
ive never been to heavenly before and im not knocking it, but my .02 is that vert means absolutely dick.....

think about it, when you drop the best terrain at any resort inbounds you are talking 1000 ft of vert max right? so equating the terrain on a mountain to how much vert it has is pointless. Keystone has the most vert in co and is the flattest mountain in the area, arapahoe basin has the least amount of vert in the area, and the ONLY gnarly terrain to be had in summit county.

That said, I trust you know that mountain a hell of a lot better than I ever will, so if you say its sick than I may just go give it a shot...as of now, im planning on sticking with alpine which is far as I can tell is half the vert, and way more in terms of gnarly terrain.
 
No, the sickest inbound vert drop is jackson hole at almost 4000 feet and you can do it in one run for one more season until they kill the tram. So vert drop can mean something if your montain is sick.
 
you can ride top to bottom of heavenly without riding a chair.. i'm not sure what you are saying.

last year we went out of bounds and rode from top of heavenly which is almost 10,000ft. to gardnerville with is under 5000ft. alpine and heavenly have to be my favorite resorts. the runs at alpine are super sick, but they are over within a minute or two. its hard to get a long run in before getting back on the chair.
 
since the rents are ill and own a house at the same elevation as the 20 mph corner in alpine road (near the top) i can keep you'all updated with the freshest of news. as of 915 pm, there is like 8 inches on the roads here at about 6000 feet i believe. so ski there tommrow
 
I'm in utah....so just to make you all feel a little better here's the update here. Crap snow! just like tahoe...icy. But one good thing is i was able to find some decent powder hidden away, but it was hardly worth leaveing tahoe....fun, but still not quite worth it...good thing I didn't have to pay for it. As far a park skiing goes, Utah doesn't have shit on tahoe or mammoth. I guess thats kind of obvious...but you should definately be greatful for the sick parks in tahoe regardless of the conditions. See you guys back in tahoe soon.
 
that alpineplease for keepin us updated...for those of us stuck at home it keeps us motivated to live. keep it up cause i gotta know how soon i need to get pow sticks and new boots
 
today was so epic. first tracks in killebrew! :) best day of the season yet by far! i actually got some face shots. such soft snow in there. oh my gosh. aaaw im so stoked right now
 
ah kim... you're so lucky..... cal side sucked so bad. katie and i got up there and decided to hit the face. it was like 4 inches of pow on top of pure ice.. it was lame.. and it just wasn't fun for us anywhere else..
 
one more thing, why did u ski alone? and why did kay go up and ski alone? it would have been the 4 of us.. JEEZ
 
^ I know, we probably would have had way more fun. & When i got home, I thought about how dope mott & killebrew would have been, but sky chair was closed..lameeeee.
 
trust me, this is only an issue in tahoe. Try summit county once......12 to 1 on a good day.

Mines nice enough to come to tahoe with me, and maybe some of these nice girls can help teach her some skills.
 
just an update on the Utah snow,...i pulled through like always and dumped the lite fluffy goods for my last day. Epic to say the least. Hows the snow in tahoe now...I need to know when to come back.
 
jex... lay off the powdered sugar, Anyways its raining rihgt now but i hear rumors of snow tomorrow. this sucks.
 
Haven't gotten back to tahoe from xmas yet, trying to figure out where the hell I'm going to ski since my pass isn't good until 1/2, so into the backcountry I go. Is there snow at lake level because a couple of snowmobile spots require you start from lake level and w/o snow there you can't get in.
 
no park city. Alta and snowbird. 2 of the best for powder in Utah. Just incase any of you were planning a trip to Utah. Brighton and solitude also boast some great powder stashes and Brighton has a strong park. I personally like Alta and snowbird the best though.
 
1. why would you go to boreal or northstar. if its a pow day go to alpine, squaw, or rose (its the highest and most likley to get the most and best snow). that wknd suked tho cuz the snow was super heavy even for tahoe it was heavy. we were so spoiled last year
