Tahoe vs. SLC

Nexy year I'm planning on taking off for the winter to go ski somewhere fun. I want to go to either Utah or Tahoe. I've never been to Utah but of course I've heard good things. I'd probably ski at Brighton because it has the cheapest pass. I went to Tahoe over spring break and really liked it. I would probably ski at Apline, Kirkwood, or get the double pass for Sierra and Northstar. I ski about 60-70% big mountain at the rest of the time in the park although I'm starting to spend more time in the park. Mostly I'm worried that Tahoe doesn't get as good of snow but it is way cheaper to ski there so it's kind of edging out SCL. But I don't know what do you guys think?

I think rails in general are just a phase. - Anthony Boronowski

Both have big cities so you dont have to worry about that...

Utah-Best snow in the world

Park-Park City and Snowbird

Big Mountain-Snowbird/Alta,Snowbasin,Solitude and plenty of great backcountry

Tahoe-better entertainement

Park-Mammoth

Big Mountain-Kirkwood,Heavenly and Squaw

there both comparible...Tahoe for more park...SLC for better snow and better mountain...Id personally go for Utah for more powder days and harder/better terrain and price+every mountain is close to the city

yeah but utah has nice skking. unless you convert you anit gettin any pussy next to your hand

move to slc.

a. it is a college town so there are college parties (though they aren't hugh they are there)

b. alta/bird pass is sick and alta should have a decent park next year. trust me on this one.

c. park city has one of the best parks in the country

d. there are tons of hot girls, and the morman thing isn't an issue, just hang out near the uofu

e. all resorts are within 40 minutes of slc depending on where you live in the valley

f. the cost of living is cheap.

g. best snow on earth and the pow days are to die for at alta/bird.

h. slc/pc hold host to some of the best skiers/riders in the world, and there are tons of pros moving here next year.

i. Rails, rails, rails. the city is filled with them.

anything else???

there is no problem with mormons! i live here they are all awsome no one cares once your here. if it werent for the mormons pc would just barley getting started and utah would be no man state, dont forget they populated it. if your going somewhere to ski come to utha if your going somewhere to party go to tahoe, that how it is.

drop every thing its saturday time to ski!

yeah i live in salt lake and i havent heard one person say they dont like it, fuck i never even see mormons or associate with them its not a big deal at all the only people that say it is are the ones who dont live here.

you really cant go wrong with either. utah is awesome undoubtedly... great b.c. opportunities within a 30 min hike of the road in the cottonwood canyons, but there are great spots in the tahoe b.c. too... personally if i had to choose i would take tahoe... just because i grew up here, and i know it better... and i dont like hitting rocks in the middle of february, but if you dont mind a few stones in your traverses and value light snow over deep snow, then utah is your place. and thats not to say they dont get deep snow... i have had a great pow day every time i have ever been to alta... just dont go to the canyons. ever. i have a vendetta against that place. unless you like overpriced tickets and aspen trees 2 inches apart over the majority of the mountian... blah. in denoument, you really cant loose either way...

-you think you can take us on... you and your cronies-

unless you want to hike in the bc for any worthwile turns, I'd suggest not getting a pass at Brighton. The BC at Brighton rules. but the in bounds stuff at brighton blows. Flat.

Solitude has great terrain and no crowds, but it's short, and you have to ride the lifts a lot to get to the real goods there....but that leaves lots of really deep pow for you.

Alta/Bird = great terrain, lots of vert, lots of snow, and even more people. Bird gets hammered real quick.

Park City/The Canyons - the canyons park is worthless (lame features that are poorly maintained and designed) but if you live in PC, it's the place to ski pow......that's if you are in PC. Park City has the above mentioned wicked sick park/pipe but it's a horrible mountain to ski...aside from the park or banging gates.

Snowbasin - sick terrain, decent park (their first park they've built was this season), awesome lifts, awesome bc access, but living in Ogden could resemble hell.

No way can you say the Wasatch (ski resorts) has better terrain than the Tahoe (again, in bounds ski resorts) resorts. The stuff in the Wasatch is great, but not that great.

^^ Hitting rocks when you traverse? We get 500+ inches a year. In November you might hit some rocks, defininately not February.

VIVA LA FRONTFLIP!

Yeah I could really care less about the party scene. Where ever you go there is going to be parties and I'll be 21 so I can always go to bars. It seems like terrain wise they are pretty simular. Lots of cliffs and sweet natural terrain and really easy access to the backcountry. Really I'm just concerned with whether or not Tahoe can stack up to Utah's snow quality since they both get about the same amount of snow. Is Utah worth the extra $300-400 dollar for a season pass?

it is worth it. you should live in sandy or near the cottenwood canyons if you don't want to drive far, but then you are further from downtown and the uofu. if you don't mind driving a bit further live downtown.

and fyi snowbirds bottem lot is 21 miles from the dorms at the u of u.

go to colorado

凸凸凸凸凸凸凸凸凸凸凸

Go ARMADA Go 4FRNT

凸凸凸凸凸凸凸凸凸凸凸

Fuck Colorado. If I wanted to shell out $1,000+ for season pass, live in a cave for $750 a month, and ski flat terrain with a bunch of rich fucks that's were I'd go.

k it like this

light deep snow=utah

heavy but deep snow=tahoe

pc has the sickest park

just more good resorts in utah hand down

drop every thing its saturday time to ski!

i jsut want to say i am not anti morman. i like jesus to iam catholic. but slc is crazy i say win the lottery and buy a house at both places if you cnat win, timeshare.......

Tahoe- SLC is too mormon

'I hit a kid with my car over xmas break, put him in the hospital on a ventilator for two days serves him right' dspin7x

'Over christmas break, i got hit by a car, and had to go on a ventalator in the hospital for like 2 days.' markd13

hey calgary jibber do you even know a mormon stop ragging on a life style you know nothing about.

drop every thing its saturday time to ski!

Dude, you'll regret going to Tahoe, SLC is awsome, minus the mormon experience, state owned liquor stores that close at 6 in the afternoon, bars close at 1am, and once I saw a mormon with one eye! Dude, all the shit about them is nothing compared to the LOCAL ski scene, just don't get tied down...

actualy the boozz stores close at 7 and some close at 10 and they are closed on sundays and holidays. it really isn't an issue though, cause you can still buy beer anytime before 1am and if you aren't an idiot you can plan ahead and get booz early. although I still forget on some holidays though. it can get annoying, but if that is a reason that you don't come to slc then you should move to the midwest where there isn't anything to do except drink and quit skiing.

I like them both very much. I would say that Tahoe has better tree skiing at places like Heavenely, and they have very good parks. The snow is also real good, I mean sure it's not Utah but its still REAL nice.

I would say Utah has better steeps, less trees and more bowls....less park stuff, with the exception of Park City. ALSO, a plus for Utah is more consistent snowfall. Tahoe gets dumped on, and its amazing if your timing is good and get there for the big snow falls, but sometimes they get huge droughts and get nothing for 3 weeks. Utah gets huge storms, and in between those storms gets some scattered inches to keep everything fresh.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

ya Parker is right, South Lake has all the night life u will ever need, and hot chicks. o ya and those storms, like the one we had this year, were it snows 24 inches a day for like 3 days straight..ya those rock

yay skiing

without a doubt in my mind tahoe because of great skiing b.c. and resort, all mtn, park, people etc. you get the point. ive been skiing tahoe for 10 years and its great

Tahoe if you feel like taking time off from life and partying

Utah if you feel like skiing

The snow in california was kinda shitty every time I've been. Also you say you would get a pass at brighton. Thats like having the choice of a Ferrari for 200$ or a Ford Focus for 175$ and taking the focus cuz its a few bucks cheaper.

We pay our debt sometimes.

go to tahoe. utah sucks we get to much snow, have too many urban rails, all the sick riders are here, our mountains are big, parks are sick, please go to tahoe.

Wow this is an old thread that has been resurected. I chose Tahoe along time ago. For the same price as the Birghton(around 1,000 acres) pass, which is the cheapest of the Cottonwood Canyon resorts, I got a pass for Northstar(2,000+ acres), Sierra(2,000+ acres) and Alpine Meadows(2,400 acres). Also the living is way cheaper only 10 minute from the hill. Tahoe is just a way better deal and gets about the same amount of snow as Utah, 500 inches at Alpine. It may not be as dry but it's still powder and who needs dry powder when you've got fat skis.

D-loc's picture looks like a monkey smoking that cig. If you had a mug like that would you really want everyone to see it.
